For the love of god someone tell me some ultra hypoallergenic shampoos for me?

Have suddenly developed an allergy to my shampoo......this shampoo was chosen after the last time I was suddenly allergic to my last shampoo and was carefully researched .....it's been fine for five years and now all of a sudden I CANT STOP ITCHING MY HEAD! It's also itching my forehead and hairline and neck and chest where it runs down, it's all itchy and it's been like this for ten days.

Help! Anyone else here got an ultra sensitive scalp and found a shampoo and conditioner range that works? I have short, fine hair which is dry at the ends and goes greasy at the roots after two days.

Thank you, in desperation.

SLS is a really harsh cleaning chemical, it's in shampoo to remove silicone (aka plastic) which is in most conditioners and styling products.
I would look for a SLS (or sulfate) free shampoo from one of the natural companies like Weleda or Tropic, and a silicone free conditioner from a similar company. You could also switch to co-washing with (silicone free) conditioner and do away with shampoo entirely, I co-wash once a week and my hair is in the best condition ever.
Hope you find a solution that works!

Current shampoo (brave botanicals faith in nature) is SLS free - here is the ingredients list ...can anyone suggest what it is that I am most likely to be reacting to given that it's paraben and SLS free?

I use either Sainsbury's or Waitrose pure soap. Hands, body, hair works a treat, no itching no eczema!

Moogoo or Green People's itchy scalp (the one that is supposed to be for men).

I use Daniel Galvin Junior stuff when my scalp reacts to normal shampoos, the lavender one was always quite soothing.

Have you tried a shampoo bar? One of the natural ones, might be more gentle.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 23/12/2018 20:17

I use Ducray Sensinol. Costs an arm and a leg but I find it worth it

@MattBerrysHair which child's farm shampoos are good for you?

Eucerin Dermo-Capillaire. Available in Boots, Lloyds Pharmacy and sometimes on Amazon.

I have eczema and this happens to me too. The most recent one to make me itch was baby shampoo.... I do like Kind Natured shampoos. They smell devine and so far I’ve not had a reaction. You can buy them from Boots or Holland and Barrett.

Thanks to everyone who has suggested shampoos for me, I'm going to have to brave the shops tomorrow!

I still itch with the child's farm ones tbh. It was the yellow one.
Actually the weleda baby wash/shampoo and the burts bees baby wash/shampoo are ok when I alternative with pure soap

mrsm43s · 23/12/2018 21:04

I have the same thing, where shampoos I have used for ages suddenly cause me an itchy scalp. Generally, after a bit of time, I can go back to shampoos that previously caused a reaction. Basically, I need to alternate or not use any one single shampoo for a prolonged period. Coal tar shampoo works for me as a soother, but I don't use it full time, as I don't want to become allergic to it!

I'm generally a bit prone to dry skin/eczema, but not severely. It's my scalp that seems the most sensitive of all!

BiscuitDrama · 23/12/2018 21:08

I wonder if it’s the fragrance.
I have a really sensitive scalp, although am not allergic to anything. The Jason one #2 on here is the gentlest I’ve come across and is fragrance free.

From a friend: cocamidopropyl is a frequent culprit!

CottonTailRabbit · 23/12/2018 21:20

Use dry shampoo and avoid washing your hair. Your hair will adjust. I used to wash mine daily or I'd be a right grease ball. Now I wash at most once a week. I could go longer but I like standing with my head under the water.

CottonTailRabbit · 23/12/2018 21:21

Wash my hair once a week. The rest of me is washed at least once a day.

sallyisstarstruck · 23/12/2018 21:28

Green People Scent Free shampoo is fantastic. It's the only one I've found that doesn't irritate my scalp. I've used it for years without any problems.

Ollivander84 · 23/12/2018 21:30

Moogoo

TheHauntedFishtank · 23/12/2018 22:06

Nizoral and MooGoo work for me (seborrheic dermatitis sufferer and react to pretty much anything else). Nirvana Naturals do a jasmine and nettle one which is also ok.

Hels20 · 23/12/2018 22:09

Try Karine Jackson’s shampoo - sulphate free and organic. Available at Holland and barrett

Dandeliontea123 · 23/12/2018 22:21

I have a very sensitive scalp and have never had any problems with the Akin unfragranced shampoo. It is an Australian brand and is available from Holland and Barrett and Ocado.
It does leave my hair feeling very soft though and is pricey.
The unfragranced conditioner doesn’t irritate my scalp either.

ScottishG · 23/12/2018 22:59

Waitrose Pure shampoo. Also, Boots Expert sensitive shampoo for dry and itchy scalp.
