Is Lidl likely to be busy today?

Or not as busy as the main supermarkets?

Need some shopping in and will need to take 10 year old ASD who loves shopping but not when she has to queue for long.

It's always busy on Sunday at the best of times.

RedWineIsFabulous · 23/12/2018 09:36

I think it will be a nightmare. Go ASAP- that’s what I would do if I were you.

GimmeGimmeHellYeah · 23/12/2018 09:36

Oh is it? Bummer. Is there a best time to go do you think? Open til 10pm.

The other option is driving 20 miles to one of the 24 hour supermarkets tonight and dealing with the consequences of a tired child

It’s Sunday. 24 hour opening doesn’t apply on a Sunday.

ipswichwitch · 23/12/2018 09:39

It’ll be busy today (like everywhere), but at least it’s small and the checkout is quicker. It’s the only supermarket I’ll contemplate taking my 5yo with probable ASD (under assessment, but some difficulties already documented). I’d certainly recommend going early. Good luck!

MellyPapa · 23/12/2018 09:39

If you can't get there and trolley dash before 10 I wouldn't bother until later. I went at 8am yesterday tried to buy booze forgetting it'd be too early in Scotland - d'oh! and it was about as busy as a normal Saturday but I drove past again at 11 am and 3pm and it was rammed both times!

PurpleDaisies · 23/12/2018 09:39

Yes, it’s always busy on Sundays

cloudtree · 23/12/2018 09:40

I went to Tesco last night at 9pm. It was very quiet. But nothing left at all in the bakery. So you could try this evening but don’t expect bakery to have bread. Early tomorrow morning would probably be better.

Waterlemon · 23/12/2018 09:41

Mine was very quiet yesterday - there was even parking. I think everyone’s gone for more luxury than everyday value as it’s Christmas.

I know it's Sunday.
The online opening hours says 24 hour today and tomorrow.

Yeah waterlemon that's what I was hoping for.

I’d ring and double check that since Sunday trading laws apply in England. Which supermarket?

cloudtree · 23/12/2018 09:47

Worth the double check if it’s a 20 mile drive

GimmeGimmeHellYeah · 23/12/2018 09:48

Ah okay. People in countries other than England shop too 😉

Unless you're in Scotland or it is a very small coop sized lidl, they will be on Sunday hours, so closing at 4 or 5 pm.

RedWineIsFabulous · 23/12/2018 09:49

Marks and Spencers at 8pm last night was packed.

NonaGrey · 23/12/2018 09:49

It’s two days before Christmas everywhere will be busy today.

cloudtree · 23/12/2018 09:51

Surely not. Hmm

I’ll stop trying to be helpful then. Perhaps say if you’re somewhere with different laws. Might save people wasting their time trying to be helpful.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 23/12/2018 09:53

I also would have warned the op about Sunday trading laws
Silly me eh Hmm

MellyPapa · 23/12/2018 09:56

But cloud... this isn't an English forum... plenty of Scots on here. How were we to know where you are? Beauty of an anonymous forum with lots of different folks.

GimmeGimmeHellYeah · 23/12/2018 09:58

It wasn't relevant to mention where I lived Confused My question wasn't about Sunday trading times.
Your comment about the bakery was helpful, thank you.

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/12/2018 10:02

But where you are is relevant to your question.

If you are in Scotland, it's probably best to go after about 7 pm tonight, but if you are in another UK country, or probably most of Europe, that is not an option as the shops will close early.

Any shop on short Sunday hours is likely to be very busy all day today.

GimmeGimmeHellYeah · 23/12/2018 10:16

Ah yes, that makes sense, thank you.

I didn't think to mention no Sunday trading hours as this is the norm for me (I did say 24 hour supermarket though), as someone in England wouldn't think to specifically mention that they were in place.

I think you're right, hopefully will be quieter after around 7pm. Fingers crossed!

We have a 24 hour shop near to where I live. It's genuinely 24 hours the only time it's not is Christmas Day when it's "only" open 9am-5pm. I'm in Wales. There are strict rules around when they can serve alcohol. It's been like that for decades and no one has a problem with it.

I went shopping last night and found it was really quiet, around 8pm. All day it had apparently been completely jammed and has been for the last couple of days. People were queuing to get into our supermarket before 6am yesterday. I found out as staff were on the door saying they'd run out of some things as it had been so horrendous all day, though they had almost everything I needed so not a problem for me.

AnnaMagnani · 23/12/2018 10:39

Lidl is a main supermarket where I live. As is Aldi.
