Is Lidl likely to be busy today?

Or not as busy as the main supermarkets?

Need some shopping in and will need to take 10 year old ASD who loves shopping but not when she has to queue for long.

We went to Lidl about 8 this morning. I have never seen so many cars there at that time of the morning before. They had three checkouts going when we left. Tesco was also quite busy, but we were lucky and walked right up to a checkout. We were home in less than an hour. I expect by now it is manic.

Where my Lidl is, it says "a little busy" then at 12pm, predicted "as busy as it gets"

It is always busy on Sunday's.

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/12/2018 10:46

This evening is likely to be quieter but also high likelihood of stuff being out of stock, so it's difficult.

I'm going about 6 am tomorrow morning.

GimmeGimmeHellYeah · 23/12/2018 10:50

Will most supermarkets get a fresh delivery overnight then for tomorrow?

Our Morrisons opens at 5am tomorrow, but just don't know if that is feasible or not.

I went to Aldi at 8 am yesterday and the queues waiting outside were horrendous, it was like waiting to go in to battle. I ended up doing my shop back to front so to speak, starting near the tills and working my way round, it seemed to work.

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 23/12/2018 11:01

@crimsonlake it was exactly the same when I went to Aldi yesterday! Cramped like a tin of sardines.

KingLooieCatz · 23/12/2018 11:05

You've probably all moved on but when you live in Scotland you don't necessarily know the opening times of shops in England to think to mention it. Sunday opening times caught me unawares many times when I first moved to England. It's just not a factor in your life.

PattiStanger · 23/12/2018 11:05

Tbh you're asking a how long is a piece of string question, no one can tell you how busy your particular branch of any shop will be.

If you need stuff you need it so you're going to have to go somewhere to buy it.

I went last night 10-11pm to 24hr Tesco with dd (10yo) who has ASD. It was sooooo quiet! She enjoyed shopping for chocs for gran and grandad and ticking them off her list.

Only thing is that there were lots of restocking staff and massive trollies of stock blocking some shelves and we were told by staff just to give them a shout and they'd move things if we needed access.

We got a hot choc from McDonalds drive through on the way home and DD was in bed by 11.45pm (and slept until 9.30am this morning! Whoopee!). Sooooooooooooo much better and more relaxed than going during 'normal' hours. I'd definitely recommend holding off.

Ps - the only thing is, a lot of the shelves were looking a bit empty as staff were restocking. However, staff were more than happy to get things out of crates/trolleys when asked.

Ah yes - also a Scotland resident here. Forgot about restrictive Sunday opening times elsewhere.

Lonecatwithkitten · 23/12/2018 11:21

What is delivered tomorrow will be the same vintage as what is there today in the fresh food. The farmers sent out their last stuff on Friday ( veggie farmers daughter).
Tesco's at 9pm last was busy for 9pm on a Saturday, but not rammed. The biggest issue was navigating the thousands of cages they had on the shop floor as they restocked ready for today.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/12/2018 11:23

My Aldi (small Scottish town) was nice and quiet yesterday and staff were fairly relaxed and friendly.
Nobody bumped into me.
I got everything on my list too.

B&M by contrast was a bit scary.

InconsistentlyFestive · 23/12/2018 11:28

B and M is terrifying! Glad I got what I wanted from their Christmas aisle when they put stock out at start of November. Tried to have another nosy yesterday and almost lost an eye!

veggiepigsinpastryblankets · 23/12/2018 11:29

My (Scottish) Sainsburys was fine at 9pm last night. Probably about as busy as 6 on a normal weeknight, and only 1 person ahead of us at the checkout.

Bear in mind if your big shop involves booze you won't be able to buy it after 10pm (nearly fell foul of that myself yesterday!)

pegitout · 23/12/2018 13:50

I've just been, Lidl was busy but fine. Asda was terrible.

katseyes7 · 23/12/2018 13:57

l've been to Lidl this morning. lt was busy, but not horrendous. And to be fair, the checkouts were better than usual. l actually managed to queue behind one person, and we both had baskets. Usually it's pot luck and you can stand there with a basket behind somebody with a trolley who's ostensibly feeding the five thousand.

GimmeGimmeHellYeah · 23/12/2018 22:19

Thanks everyone. Went down about 7.30pm. Had to pop into Tesco afterwards for a couple of things I couldn't get but was generally stress free and pleasant.
