I’ve had the loveliest day...

I went to ds2’s church service this morning for the first time in years (usually I’m at work) and although he’s year 5 and pretends he couldn’t care less he had a big grin on his face when he saw me.

Then I was invited for amaretto coffee with some of the school mums, which may not seem like a big deal, but again I’m usually at work so don’t do that sort of thing.

Bought a few last minute bits from a local shop with a really lovely owner and had a good chat to her, then managed to collect a parcel from Argos without a fight.

This afternoon my Dbro and SIL turned up to drop off presents and had an impromptu G&T with them to celebrate the fact that they are about to become grandparents.

Fish and chips for tea and now I’m in my PJs playing Gran Turismo with dh and the dcs.

This has been a perfect day! Feeling very warm and fuzzy and Christmassy after the longest and shittiest term at work ever.

Share your tales of simple pleasures and Christmas joy here Xmas Smile

Glad you’ve had a lovely day. Do you think the warm fuzzy feeling may just be the GinSmile

Nellabella · 21/12/2018 19:36

aw, its the simplest things that give the most pleasure sometimes.

I had my baby christened on Sunday, everyone turned up (bar one) the venue was lovely and it was great to see friends and family who dont know each other sitting chatting and enjoying themselves and everyone commented on how nice the food was.

C00lio · 21/12/2018 19:39

Love it.

It's the little things Smile

WhiteDust · 21/12/2018 19:39

Work this morning and straight to pub/restaurant for lunch.
I stayed there all afternoon & early evening with my lovely friend. No drinking, just lots of chat and laughter.
Great start to the holiday!

Boyskeepswinging · 21/12/2018 19:42

Managed to get a lovely table to celebrate my DS's successes this term at one of those hipster burger places that 14 year old lads love. Thought we'd not manage with it being Mad Friday but we did! Hurrah!

cptart2 · 21/12/2018 19:43

Sat with DS2 with the twinkly lights of the xmas tree, sharing snacks, a glass of Prosecco (me) and watching the darts! It's a bit of a tradition but he's 13 now and think it will be the last year Sad

SherlockHolmes · 21/12/2018 19:46

I rang my elderly aunt today to see if she was in and could I visit.

She obviously thought she'd put the phone down when we'd finished talking and I heard her say "oh how lovely". Made my day.

Haggisfish · 21/12/2018 19:50

Aw these are lovely. I wrote individual cards to my tutor group and they all loved them. One lad clutched his all day.

WisestIsShe · 21/12/2018 19:57

I'm a cm and today we had a Christmas Day. Played games, proper Christmas lunch followed by a walk in the cold. It was lovely, all of my minded children are like a little family.

GimbleInTheWabe · 21/12/2018 20:03

Lovely OP!

Today I took DS 14 months to the royal festival hall where he went up and down the stairs about 47458 times. We met up with my friend and just baby who is the same age. They're both just walking and we're just so cute together. We got some nice food from the market and the walked down the south bank.

DS and I got on the train to meet DP at his work and had a beer with his work friends (all blokes) who cooed over our DS which was sweet to see. Then a walk home together, dinner for DS who has now gone off to sleep in record timing - win!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 21/12/2018 20:03

I love this thread! I braved the supermarket today and even though it was busy as hell everyone was lovely and friendly and smiley, moving out of each other’s way and helping find things. I had a nice chat with the lady behind me in the queue. Now I am relaxing, DH is on his way home early and we are going out for dinner at our favourite local restaurant. Smile

NomsQualityStreets · 21/12/2018 20:09

Aww these are great ☺

DP is away tonight so I've had an afternoon with my DCs 4 and 1. Took them to the shop where I allowed DS to pick a few bits out for DPs Christmas present (he thinks daddy talks to santa to make sure he (DS) gets his presents so he wants to make sure daddy gets something too). He picked out some cute random bits and after we put the baby to bed we wrapped them together in some very glittery paper and random ribbon concoctions and shared a little cake before I tucked him in bed.

I'm currently sat staring at the Christmas tree whilst the floor, table, sofa, me and ddog are covered in silver glitter.

I looked after my dgs today while dd and sil went to a wedding. Dgs is nearly 17 months old and is starting to talk more. He was so lovely as he kept coming over for a cuddle and when dh go t him up from his sleep when I was not in the room the welcome he gave me was so great.

He is becoming a real character now and as his childminder described him as having a challenging day yesterday I felt so lucky.

mamaduckbone · 21/12/2018 20:14

I’m glad other people have had lovely days too. We’ve cracked open the Christmas chocs now too in honour of the kids finishing school.

I've been off work for 4 months with MH issues, Monday was the first day I felt I could get better. This week my teenager has been full of love so I'm finally feeling festive. Love hearing how little things are making everyone's day.

mamaduckbone · 21/12/2018 20:24

That’s great news - I hope you’re on the way back to being well.

Thanks mamaduckbone, I hope so too. It would be a great start to the new year.

Jowak1 · 21/12/2018 20:28

I've had the loveliest evening with my daughter who's 8 while my hubby and son have gone to my husbands parents in Derby to watch the footy tomorrow. We have baked cakes, watched movies and generally just had a lovely night- I agree it's the simple pleasures😊

KeepServingTheFestiveSnogs · 21/12/2018 20:29

Lovely thread, mamaduckbone
I have also had a gorgeous day and was considering starting a thread about it, so glad you beat me to it!

For me:
Today is the first day of the holidays (whoop whoop) and I had a REALLY GOOD and productive last couple of days at work, and got various things that needed to be finished done. I've even left a tidy and completely clear desk, which is so unheard-of for me, that my colleagues all came and sat on it just because they could! So I'm on holiday with a clear conscience and don't have to think about work at all.

I got up early and spent an hour or so wrapping (I hate wrapping) so I'm pleased to have done that. [although, still more to do Xmas Sad ]

I met a distant cousin/more of a friend who I don't see that often, but she's in town this weekend. We had tea and a catch-up. She's good for my soul and makes me laugh.

Then something quite bad happened - I got given some bad news. BUT I was with this cousin/friend, and she's had exactly the same experience, so at least I could talk it through with her.

I've done the supermarket christmas shop with DH and (a) it wasn't too horrendous or overly crowded, (b) we didn't kill each other or even fall out [unlike last year!] and (c) with loyalty points etc it wasn't as expensive as I was dreading. AND we've got shed-loads in which is going to (hopefully) see us through to end of next week.

I've had a good conversation with DD (about the bad news thing, and although it's still bad, the situation has moved on and the talking about it was good).

I may open a bottle shortly. I'm going to have an email chat with a friend later, and I'm looking forward to that.

And it's the hoooolllliiiidddaaaayyyysssss!!!!!

BadHairDyeDay · 21/12/2018 20:30

I became a great aunt today 😁

AnyFucker · 21/12/2018 20:30

I've had a good day too

Waved visitors off back to their home country, given countless lifts to dh and dc to get them home from work then out the door to various xmas booze ups

Now finally in the bath with a glass of red, a nice curry and I player waiting for me downstairs. An evening yo myself after a busy day.....bliss.

RavenAroundTheChristmasTree · 21/12/2018 20:31

Yesterday I was waiting in a queue to print some photos in a shop within Tesco. Thought while there’s a queue i’ll change my £5 note for £1 to get a trolley - photo place couldn’t do it and said I had to go to customer services. Man in front of me said you’ll be waiting forever at customer service to do that and handed me £1 and said Merry Christmas. Very kind of him, so I thought i’d repay the kind thought and gave my trolley to someone else after i’d finished my shop. They offered me the £1 back and I explained it had been given to me so they said they would do the same or put it in a charity pot.

Small gesture but kind and thoughtful. Helps remind us that there are nice people around.

mamaduckbone · 21/12/2018 20:33

I’m really excited about becoming a great aunt badhairday although it makes me feel a bit old (disclaimer - I was 12 when I became an auntie!)

Me, DH, our 19 month old and 6 week old just snuggled on the sofa and watched Angela's Christmas. No-one was on their phone, ds was engrossed and baby ds was cooing away. It was perfect.

nuttyknitter · 21/12/2018 20:51

What a lovely thread! We travelled to meet my DH's Aunt and her husband for lunch. They're both in their eighties and such good company.
