How many years do you think the Gatwick drone men or women should get?

Government are saying 5 years apparently, but have heard many people like James O'Brian call for far more and 20 years in prison. I think that puts it way higher than many people get for murder

If you get 3 years when a woman ends up dead after you assault her and leave her dying, I don't see how any incident that hasn't ended in death can get more.

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2018 19:03

Yes very good point

lynnepot · 21/12/2018 19:03

I think I read it's five years imprisonment.

nickiredcar · 21/12/2018 19:06

I agree. But the system seems to value money lost far more than and lives!

Well if I had been at Gatwick waiting for a flight I personally think only drawing and quartering would suffice.

Longdistance · 21/12/2018 19:15

All assets to be seized. 10 years minimum in prison.
Then laws on drones to be changed ie; ban all drones.

ForalltheSaints · 21/12/2018 19:18

Years? Surely most of the people affected would want a sentence in decades.

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 21/12/2018 19:19

nobody has died, its been a wake up call really

what if it ends up being someone with SEN like the hacker?

Cismyfatarse1 · 21/12/2018 19:20

Is it 5 years for each offence though?

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 21/12/2018 19:21

how will it be proven in court anyway?

lynnepot · 21/12/2018 19:21

They need to sell these things on licence with some sort of system so they can track them back to culprits. And use some sort of radio interference or hawk to take them out.

TheQueef · 21/12/2018 19:22

Probably a five year contract with the MoD.

ScreamingValenta · 21/12/2018 19:22

This.

I was at Gatwick yesterday for 12 hours with my 2 month old baby... Let's say i feel no sympathy towards the people who did this and i wish they step on a million legos and hit their little toe on every furniture that crosses their path for the rest of their lives. No one was physically hurt but mentally and emotionally it was a nightmare.

In the same way crimes y usually are u assume, with an assumption of innocence, presentation of the facts and witness statements and considerarion by a jury.

sherrysfortea · 21/12/2018 19:35

So sorry to hear that @Stardust91 it must have been hell.

The best punishment is obviously to lock them in with all of the disgruntled passengers for an hour.

lljkk · 21/12/2018 19:43

Whatever the relevant laws say is the appropriate sentence.
I believe in this funny thing called "Rule of Law" not arbitrary punishments dictated by angry members of public.

Stardust91 · 21/12/2018 19:48

Thank you @sherrysfortea . It was terrible. We got back home and both DH and I felt absolutely defeated. We were going to visit my family for Christmas and show the baby to my grandparents, etc.(The haven't met DS, yet) Now we can't get out there for another week.

MulticolourMophead · 21/12/2018 19:49

But in this country, it often seems that crime against property, or where people have lost money (such as burglary) end up with the perpetrators receiving a higher sentence than for a crime against another person. And here we have airlines, etc, losing a lot of money because of the drone/s.

Fantababy · 21/12/2018 19:52

And significantly higher punishments for financial crimes than rape and murder. They'll probably throw the book at these guys.

TooTrueToBeGood · 21/12/2018 20:02

The maximum sentence is apparently 5 years. Maybe a bit of imagination could be applied though - 5 years flying Ryanair every day. That'll teach them.

LadyPasserine · 21/12/2018 20:10

I would hand out years of hard labour for causing global environmental pollution.

  1. For sending planes on extra journeys and causing additional tonnes of pollution in aviation fuel - 2,400 trees required to be planted = 10 years.
  1. For the taxis sent from Brighton to Edinburgh and Cambridge to Bristol (etc) to take people home - another 6,000 trees = 15 years.
  1. For the additional power required by family and friends to phone and email each other as a by-product of this 'statement' - another 800 trees = 3 years.
  1. For buying the drone and designing, fitting and deploying additional battery packs - another 3 trees = 90 days.

Therefore for the environmental destruction caused by this action a total of 28 years and 90 days.

nickiredcar · 22/12/2018 09:26

I can't see them just getting 5 years. New laws and rules could be made to put them away for alot longer

OP posts:
WWYDhelpplease · 22/12/2018 09:29

I think it needs to be the full 5 years if that all the max can be.

knittedmouse · 22/12/2018 09:32

It's only a matter of time before one brings an aircraft down and many people die, so 15 years seems fair seeing as they only serve half that anyway.
