DD has thrush constantly! or STI?

hidinginthenightgarden · 21/12/2018 14:55

DD 3 has thrush at least once a month. I took her to the doctor who said they would do a swab to check it was definitely that and if so would refer to paeds to see why it is recurring.

Test results are in - "normal, no action to be taken".

Now I am confused. DH thinks it could be related to the fact that DD birth mum had STIs when pregnant with her.

Could this have effected DD? She was born by Csection.

I think the only way to really know and be sure what the recurring issue is would be to go to your GP with the information you have on the birth mother and ask if it could all be related.

hidinginthenightgarden · 21/12/2018 15:05

All I know is that she had an STI at time ~DD was born which led to Csection over vaginal delivery. The swab would have shown something if it was an STI or similar though wouldn't it?

I think if she had a section she was then 'saved' from the STI. She was lucky. I know a child who was infected by the herpes virus at birth. I'd get her checked anyway though.

Ah poor thing uti ar horrible nevermind when you’re so little Sad Has she shown signs of threadworm? It’s really common in nursery settings. Apparently it can cause uti in girls with their urethra in such close proximity to their bum iykwim.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 21/12/2018 15:11

Sorry I got thrush and cystitis muddled up - still worth checking though at her age.

justaboutsurviving · 21/12/2018 15:24

My dsis always had thrush after every period. She had a reaction to sanpro. I'm not sure how old your dd is but could it be that?

ShadyLady53 · 21/12/2018 15:29

She has my sympathies. I had thrush from birth until 9 years old constantly and then on and off as a teenager. I had investigations (swabs, internals, not fun as a little girl!) with Gynae but everything was inconclusive.

What cleared it up was cutting out sugar and yeast products (so no bread, marmite, cakes etc), only wearing cotton underwear, wiping correctly etc. Like a pp, sanpro sets me off too.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon and she makes a quick recovery.

BalloonSlayer · 21/12/2018 15:39

Does she seem very thirsty?

Thrush can be a symptom of diabetes.

hidinginthenightgarden · 21/12/2018 15:42

Not too thirsty and too little for sanpro. Thread worms are a good call. She has had them before.

If the test came back negative she doesn't have thrush. What is the doctor saying? Did they previously diagnose thrush?

tinseltitties · 21/12/2018 15:43

Is she age 3 or your 3rd DD?

Zwischenwasser · 21/12/2018 15:47

I find I get thrust really easily. Even many types of toilet paper set me off.

Anything scented in the The Bath is absolute no go. As are most shampoos. And strictly non bio washing powder and no fabric softener.

It’s crap but worth it not to get thrush constantly.

ISdads · 21/12/2018 15:51

Is she wiping the right way ie front to back?

hidinginthenightgarden · 21/12/2018 15:54

Age 3.
We use non bio stuff. Both kids have sensitive skin so nothing in bath.
Dr previously diagnosed thrush.
Said if the swab came back thrush she would be referred and if not she would be treated for whatever it was. That's why I am confused! Why no action? Dr said it looked sore when taking the swab but he was a locum dr. Could this be why no further action?

A pp poster reminded me of an old friend who always suffered terribly if she ever ate strawberries, even strawberries flavoured things. Could it be an allergy?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 21/12/2018 17:42

So that’s that, they didn’t give you any advice or even cream to apply? Really poor show.

Does she wear tights a lot?

Cervixen · 21/12/2018 17:44

Is she out of nappies? My DD used to get sore when she first started wiping herself when she went to the toilet.
I treated it like nappy rash, and made sure she understood how to wipe herself ‘properly’.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 21/12/2018 17:55

Are you sure it's thrush? What are the symptoms? If it's just itching it could be eczema or worms or an allergy.

hidinginthenightgarden · 21/12/2018 17:59

Symptoms are itching and saying it hurts, redness and white discharge.
She wears nappies at bedtime. Normally knickers and leggings during the day.
Wiping is not consistent. She needs to be told and I suspect that at nursery, she doesn't wipe.

Poor Child, try Live Yoghurt until you can go back to the GP.

LoonyLunaLoo · 21/12/2018 18:24

It could be an allergy or intolerance. DN has terrible issues ‘down there’ until she was diagnosed with coeliacs disease. Are her poos solid?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 21/12/2018 18:26

I’d maybe try something looser like jogging bottoms instead of leggings/limit wearing leggings.

ShadyLady53 · 21/12/2018 18:28

That’s a good point, I also have Coeliac Disease! Her symptoms sound very similar to mine as a child.

hidinginthenightgarden · 21/12/2018 18:31

Interesting about Coeliac disease! I am going to have to go back and get them to look further.it isn't fair on her at all.

PixieCutRegret · 21/12/2018 18:38

You said she gets sensitibe skin, does she have eczema? I do and occasionally get an outbreak down there, it's very similar to the itching that comes with thrush.

Poor little thing, I hope it gets sorted soon.
