Just wondering if anyone had experienced any negative comments or attitudes from BF in public and if so, how did you deal with it?

OP posts:
LordPickle · 20/12/2018 15:20

Never. I was very self conscious about it until I realised that no one cared. Wink

StuntCroissant · 20/12/2018 15:24

No, none. In fact I found people went over the top to show they were "ok" with it - such as one woman who came over and stroked DD's cheek while she was latched on. 😐

mortifiedmama · 20/12/2018 15:25

No. Got a dirty look once. Ignored it.

No, breastfed for about 3 1/2 years in total and no nasty stuff at all.

Itssosunnyout · 20/12/2018 15:27

No.
I've had old ladies come up to me to say how lovely it is to see someone feeding baby.

I've had good responses particularly from tkmaxx and m&s who let me use their changing rooms even when its busy.

People seem to take am interest.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 20/12/2018 15:30

None here either.

Aria2015 · 20/12/2018 15:30

No never. No comments, no funny stares - very uneventful!

DappledThings · 20/12/2018 15:31

None. 2 babies, 3.5 years. Got one positive comment once and one offer from someone to move up to give more elbow room and that's it.

Youmadorwhat · 20/12/2018 15:39

No, never and I breastfed both of mine for a year. It was A very positive experience

redyawn · 20/12/2018 15:39

Once. But I had many positive comments.

Christmasgone2018 · 20/12/2018 15:40

Nota single comment from a stranger but exdh didn't like me feeding in public, twat

SarahET · 20/12/2018 15:43

Never had a negative comment either. I've had a fair few conversations with people where I don't think they've even realised the baby is feeding. I was very conscious at first too but the more you do it the less you care.

dailyshite · 20/12/2018 15:48

I adopted my kids, I was tutted at and referred to as disgusting for bottle feeding (not directly to me but about me and loud enough to hear). At the time I was absolutely distraught as I already felt like a total fraud, now I wish I'd had the guts to stand up to them and point out that without the bottle, the baby would have starved and then I might have deserved that response.

nuttyslackster · 20/12/2018 15:50

Got a nice comment once, never any unpleasant ones.

wotsittoyou · 20/12/2018 15:50

No. Breastfed 3 children till 5 yrs. Often two at a time. Never had a single negative comment, or dirty look, that I noticed. Some smiles and sweet comments from older people, though.

Verbena87 · 20/12/2018 15:57

None yet, never used a cover and am still feeding at 15 months though mostly just night and morning now so usually at home as boobs are less interesting than people-watching/trying out his walking these days, so he tends not to want to feed when we’re out and about.

Lots of lovely comments, bloody brilliant waitress in the Sainsbury’s cafe when I was still emerging from blood-loss haze and the shock of having a newborn who brought me a pint of water without asking when she saw I was feeding, then checked I could reach everything and offered to butter my toast for me.

ParadiseLaundry · 20/12/2018 16:00

Never had any negative comments but do remember when DS was about 11mo a man looking quite shocked/disgusted when he noticed. I would have loved to have seen his face if he saw me feeding now 3yo DS in a cafe the other day Grin

LizzieSiddal · 20/12/2018 16:03

No, never and I did it 25 years ago.

The only issue was my MIL who kindly Hmm provided me with a bedroom and instructed me to feed there rather than in front of FIL.

ParadiseLaundry · 20/12/2018 16:06

Ah I tell a lie. My sister. When DS was 6mo I was feeding him in a Jamie's Italian and my sis said 'it might be ok for you to sit with your boob out like that in a place like this (inferring it was a hippy type place I think Grin)but I hope you don't do that in your local pub'(cheap an cheerful Hungry Horse place we often went for lunch)

Firstly my boob want out and I never had anything other than a warm welcome in either place!

HayCaramba · 20/12/2018 16:10

No never. Only approving looks and smiles when out and about.
Family on the other hand ...

OneAndDoneForNow · 20/12/2018 16:15

Nope never any negative comments thankfully

MrsPear · 20/12/2018 16:17

Got thrown out of a shopping centre in London in 2010. I refused to sit in a toilet cubicle.

beenandgoneandbackagain · 20/12/2018 16:25

Nope, I fed in supermarkets, cathedrals, anywhere she needed feeding, she got fed. I perfected the art of carrying her whilst feeding, and most people didn't even notice.

Quite often someone would offer a seat and a glass of water if they did notice. At one National Trust property I was even allowed to sit on one of those seats you're not allowed to sit on! Wink

megletthesecond · 20/12/2018 16:27

No. I didn't usr a cover either.

Picklypickles · 20/12/2018 16:29

No, never had any comments although did have a few people staring, not sure why as nothing was on display!
