Baby Wipes

So i'm soon to be a parent to my first child. We're buying everything we need much in advance so there isn't any stress.
I'm wondering about baby wipes, I've been doing some research online and I've seen there are many different types!
Woven, unwoven, different types of fabrics, non fragranced etc.

What should I be going with?
If anyone with any advice or that can help clear up the differences between them, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I don’t think you need to do much research on baby wipes! If you want to use disposable ones then something unscented for sensitive skin is probably best and if you’re using reusable ones then cheeky wipes are good.

Twirlo · 20/12/2018 12:53

If you go down the disposables route in a few months time you’ll probably just be buying a bulk load of Aldi ones without even thinking about it.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 20/12/2018 12:56

Yeah, whatever you can pick up.

But ideally Cheekywipes.

(Or any cut up cloth actually to be fair. No need to pay for cheekywipes. I used loo roll the other day and it was just fine actually, never crossed my mind before.)

I recommend the Huggies Pure baby wipes. I buy them in cases from Amazon and they are brilliant. My DS has very sensitive skin and these work great for him.

NoisePollution · 20/12/2018 13:03

Disposable - I always recommend ones that have a hard seal on the packet as they dry out less. I find pampers wipes don’t all stick together (ie you don’t pull out ten when trying to get one one handed)
Otherwise we also use cheeky wipes for hands/faces/non poo bums - damp from a box and washed with other washing. We’ve had our first batch around three years and they’re still soft and lovely

NannyR · 20/12/2018 13:07

Ideally reusable ones, but if you get disposable ones I think that the unfragranced ones are much nicer to use - personally I think that the fragranced ones are too strongly scented and the mixture of poo and scent is particularly unpleasant.

yesmelord · 20/12/2018 13:09

My DD and niece were both allergic to huggies pure wipes, they gave them awful awful reactions and it was terrible to see. They only really ever got on well with the Aldi mamia wipes.

We did water wipes for the first month or so but they also didn't agree with DD.

It's try and fail I think. There's no point over planning these things as ultimately it will be your little one who reacts well to certain wipes.

bakingdemon · 20/12/2018 13:10

A number of people have recommended WaterWipes to us - you can get boxes of them on Amazon.

erykahb · 20/12/2018 13:10

Aldi's brand Mamia.
I swear by them, but when my babies were newborn I used warm water & cotton balls as their skin is extra sensitive

Congratulations OP Thanks being a mum is the best thing in the world.

Stephisaur · 20/12/2018 13:11

I prefer the johnsons over the huggies ones. DS seems a lot more comfortable with them too because they’re softer.

I wouldn’t overthink it though.

IamChipmunk · 20/12/2018 13:16

Ive used (and still do at 2 and 4) huggies pure wipes. They are unfragranced and have a nice texture. They are also not too wet!

HollyandIvyarelivingitupagain · 20/12/2018 13:17

Disposables out of the house,a flannel or fleece nappy liner at home and under a mixer tap at home for poonamies.I mostly used plain water.

chunkymonkeysmama · 20/12/2018 13:18

The best wipes i have found are Tesco Flo & Fred sensitive wipes. They are only about 79p a packet too. You can't go wrong with that!

MooMummy12 · 20/12/2018 13:19

Disposable wise I recommend Aldi mamia sensitive ones. They're unfragranced. I used them before I had my little girl but never had any issues with them on her either ☺️

bonzo77 · 20/12/2018 13:21

How about not using them? They’re expensive and bad for the environment. Some babies react to them. For my youngest we used cotton wool and water. A drop of baby lotion if the poo was sticky, an toilet roll to remove large sticky weaning poo. We did use wipes when out and about, mainly for DH as carry a water bottle and cleaned up using cotton wool like at home.

AnotherPidgey · 20/12/2018 13:48

Cheeky wipes. Mine are long out of nappies, but they are still in use.

WindyWednesday · 20/12/2018 14:02

Huggies can tear and your fingers can go through into the poo.

Basically get the ones on offer is my motto. If you have a reaction obviously not. But we always went with the cheapest ones, because you use so so many. We still have them on the go here. Youngest DC age 7 they are so useful for many things.

Butterchunks · 20/12/2018 14:36

Asda little angels sensitive are a favourite of ours. You can buy a box of 12 packs for £7ish

AvocadoLovingMamaOfOne · 20/12/2018 14:41

Lidl unfragranced wipes have been our favourite, boots own brand were pretty good too. Huggies and Johnson's caused a rash. We used cotton wool pads and water when he was really little tho

chewbacca83 · 20/12/2018 15:09

Cheeky wipes are great. You can generally get away with one wipe per change unless there's a poonami and much better for the environment

IndianaMoleWoman · 20/12/2018 15:11

Sainsbury’s own brand wipes are great. They’re really moist and foamy which is great for cleaning poo/sick and they don’t tear.

masktaster · 20/12/2018 15:21

When we still used disposables, Lidl unfragranced were our go to.

Now I just use an old cut up towel with tap water. And don't miss disposables at all.

mortifiedmama · 20/12/2018 15:27

Reusable cheeky wipes are awesome.

If you want disposable then mamia sensitive.

Jakethekid · 20/12/2018 15:30

I bought loads of water wipes when my son was born and I hated them. They're so wet and cold and quite expensive and i just really disliked them. We have used asda little angels ever since. Wet enough, strong (I found huggies would rip) and did a good job for not alot of money. Morrisons own brand and tesco ones are good too. Sainsburies ones are a little bit soapy (if that makes sense?) And would leave a film of soap like texture on my son, not for me.
