Baby Wipes

Amiamiamiunx · 20/12/2018 12:40

So i'm soon to be a parent to my first child. We're buying everything we need much in advance so there isn't any stress.
I'm wondering about baby wipes, I've been doing some research online and I've seen there are many different types!
Woven, unwoven, different types of fabrics, non fragranced etc.

What should I be going with?
If anyone with any advice or that can help clear up the differences between them, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Reusables with a camomile spray works for us.
We were actually really worried that we were going to go through them at a rate of knots and that they would be impractical for out and about, but so far no issues at all.

doublethink · 20/12/2018 17:51

Reusable wipes work much effectively than disposable, and are better for the environment. I made ours out of flannels, but cheeky wipes are also good.

WaterWipes are probably the kindest. Just water and a tiny amount of fruit juice

Buy 30 white face cloths and 30 patterned ones use the white ones for dirty nappies and patterened one for wet nappies, buy dark faceclothes for hand and face and buy a top and tail bowl , put a mark on one of the sections and use that for the face use the plain bowl for their bottom. The white and patterned cloths can be soaked in Napisan and the dark ones can be put straight in the wash. cost is minimal to your purse and the enviroment

chumbal · 20/12/2018 18:53

I never used wipes just cotton wool & water. Wink

Chocolateheaven123 · 20/12/2018 19:14

I'll also recommend reusable wipes! We use cloth nappies most of the time so just bung it all in together. I also use them to give DS a quick wipe down in the morning before getting dressed and after meals.

For disposable, I use Water Wipes. More expensive but we stock up when on sale. All other wipes have given my son some sort of reaction. They also stripped the numbers off the highchair so no wonder by son doesn't agree with them!

Oldraver · 20/12/2018 19:37

If you want t go down the reusuable route then any old fleece cut up, or buy a piece of cheep stuff.

You can then use a nice baby wash or make your own.

DS had really squishy sticky poo and disposable wipes didnt cut it

DoYouLikePinaColadas · 20/12/2018 20:04

I used water wipes for about 6-8 months (I really can't remember how long now) then found ASDA's sensitive fragrance free wipes to be great and buy them by the box.

Twistedinknots · 20/12/2018 20:52

If you leave a non reusable baby wipe on a table overnight it will remove the varnish!

Not sure what they put in those things but you can use baby wipes to clean just about anything around the house.

Scubalubs87 · 20/12/2018 21:27

Maybe I’m a bit precious about it but I use water wipes. My skin is fairly sensitive and I know I wouldn’t half of the baby wipes on the market on my face so I figured that, if I wouldn’t use them on my skin, I didn’t want to use them on my baby’s bum. No rash of any sort yet and I’ve used them straight from birth. They are quite wet so I tend to dry him off with a Muslim after. I tend to bulk buy from eBay and the cheapest I’ve ever found in a shop is in Savers.

Scubalubs87 · 20/12/2018 21:29

Muslin of course

Spaghettibol · 20/12/2018 21:32

I use mamabear unfragranced from amazon

Sweetooth92 · 20/12/2018 21:33

Another vote for cheeky wipes. We have water wipes for back up if cannot use reusable for whatever reason but 99% of the time use cheeky wipes. They smell lush, wash well and clean so much better!

Didsomeonesaybunny · 20/12/2018 21:49

I use water wipes and the Huggies pure and find both to be very good. So far baby hasn’t had any signs of nappy rash or soreness.

FestiveNut · 20/12/2018 22:21

The advice is not to use them in the first month as the child is more likely to develop allergies/eczema if you do, or so we were told. Cotton wool and water, or reusable terry cloth wipes and water.

For disposables out and about, we use water wipes.

redsummershoes · 20/12/2018 22:23

buy a few (20 or so) flannels instead.
flannel & warm water is much better for dc's skin and reusing/washing flannels a lot better for the environment as well.

Justlikedevon · 20/12/2018 22:28

I got told off by my midwife for using wipes when dd was born. She said they were too cold and fierce for her as she was so teeny - She said to use cotton wool and tepid water which I did until a month old.

Itssosunnyout · 20/12/2018 22:30

I uses water wipes first then moved onto ikea flannels with plain water. I only need to use 1 cloth.

I used a wetbag when out to store the dirties and Chuck it in the washing machine when I get home

Frlrlrubert · 20/12/2018 22:51

We used Waterwipes when DD was a newborn, Mamia sensitive once we were less PFB she was a bit hardier.

Someone picked up some fragranced Huggies wipes before she was born and I popped them in the loo thinking they'd be ok for me if I had PP pooping issues. Jesus H, they burned, not a chance I'd put them anywhere near my child.

SIL swears by Cheeky Wipes. I admit I'm too lazy to wash and dry the amount of shitty wipes we got through when DD was little.

Spaghettibol · 20/12/2018 23:27

How on earth do you wash them?! I’m not putting shit in my washing machine 😂

YouBetterWORK · 20/12/2018 23:38

When DD was first born, waterwipes. Now she's a bit we've gone onto cheekywipes with the occasional pack of pampers sensitive to chuck in her swim bag or out with grandparents etc. Cheekywipes are great though, and so much better at hand/face wiping after food too!

1forAll74 · 21/12/2018 00:58

Those baby wipes firms must be making loads of money, and they are not necessary at all. And what happens to all the wipes after, do they get flushed away, and go in the drains, or into landfill sites ? Best to use flannels etc, you know, like the oldie days.

Nat6999 · 21/12/2018 01:23

Johnson's or Pampers Sensitive wipes are the best. I don't know if they still do them but I had a hard plastic box from Pampers that held 2 packs of wipes so that even when the seal had gone on the top of the packet the wipes didn't dry out. I still use baby wipes for taking off makeup, they are more economical than beauty wipes, I just buy the moisturizing ones.

Vicky1990 · 21/12/2018 02:28

Never used so called baby wipes, what do you use them for?.

FestiveNut · 21/12/2018 02:38

@vicky1990 wiping a baby.

HTH

I still use baby wipes for taking off makeup

And that is why I wouldn't use most of them on a baby, especially not a newborn. Anything that can remove make up as well as a facial wipe has no place near tiny vulvas, if you ask me.
