Party food boxes - does this sound ok?

Ds’s birthday party is in a few weeks and I’m trying to work out what to put in the food boxes (don’t want hassle of hot food and plates and cups). Does this sound ok?

Cheese or Chicken roll
Hula hoops
Frube
Bag of party rings
Satsuma
Small bag of carrots
Mini muffin
Fruit shoot.

Is this enough or too much? They’re 6/7 year olds. Would you be happy with your child eating this at a party?

Sounds perfect I'd happily eat that myself!

Newsername · 20/12/2018 10:18

Ah thank you!

It sounds like quite a lot of food but I guess they can take it home if they don't finish it all. Great idea Smile

ISpeakJive · 20/12/2018 10:22

Great stuff but given how excited they may be, they won’t eat half of that stuff. They can just take it home.

Have fun.

AnnaMariaDreams · 20/12/2018 10:26

I don’t think you need the satsuma, carrots or muffin. Sandwich, crisps, yoghurt tube, drink and snack pack of biscuits or mini roll type cake will be enough. It’s nice to provide fruit/ veg but it won’t get eaten by many.

YouCanCallMeJodieWho · 20/12/2018 10:27

Can you have some water for kids that prefer that? Make sure they know it's available? My water drinking kids would have dissed your healthy bits too though!
Party rings and hula hoops make a great foundation to a kids' party!

Newsername · 20/12/2018 10:28

That’s a fair point about the satsuma. Maybe I could peel it and put it in a bag?

Never realised about taking the box home! I could put the cake and party sweets bag in there too. Great advice!

Oh yes there’ll definitely be water on hand. I think 18 sweaty boys jumping around will need a steady flow of water!

In my (bitter) experience chicken sandwiches are unpopular so I'd do something else.
Otherwise it's a lot but a nice variety.

Fantasisa · 20/12/2018 10:32

Cheese or ham sandwiches are probably easier I think!

Newsername · 20/12/2018 10:33

I could ditch the muffin with the party cake at the end? Keep the party rings. I would still like one bit of fruit/veg as ds loves his carrots.

I'd do the bag of party rings or the mini muffin...not both.

Otherwise, sounds perfect.

InDubiousBattle · 20/12/2018 10:39

I'd get rid of the satsuma and the muffin and switch chicken for ham, but apart from that it sounds fine. Mine seem to be the only kids that actually eat at parties!

Newsername · 20/12/2018 11:59

Thanks everyone!

Why don't you just have a separate platter of fruit/veg by the water for those who want it? That way it won't get all squished in the box

wentmadinthecountry · 20/12/2018 13:31

Mine aren't allowed fruit shoots - and they are adults!!

wentmadinthecountry · 20/12/2018 13:35

Obviously that's a throwaway comment - just used to make no. 4 bonkers and make no. 1 wheeze.

HollyandIvyarelivingitupagain · 20/12/2018 13:40

In my experience the eat one small sandwich, handfuls of Christos, everything sweet,a group of small children eating cheese strings make for fabulous photoed.Because my DDS bday is in June we had bowls full of strawberries which always disappeared especially the'rude'small ones we had one year.If you fill boxes there will be a lot of waste.

Fatasfook · 20/12/2018 14:00

Ditch the fruit shoot, those things are poison! They give my kids terrible stomach cramps. Carton of fresh juice instead maybe? Otherwise good.

Scotinoz · 20/12/2018 14:12

We hosted a party a few weeks back, and have been to a string recently too. Cheese or ham sandwiches, bag of crisps, one sweet treat, fruit (watermelon or strawberries), and jugs of squash and water are the norm here.

Unless it's a dinner time party (e.g. 4-6pm), then hot food is also served.

April2020mom · 20/12/2018 15:05

We had a Christmas party at the weekend.

The menu was:
Cheese and ham sandwiches
Dips
Fruit salad
Sliced vegetables
Nachos
Cake

SockNRolla · 20/12/2018 15:40

100% agree with the Fruit Shoot comment. I cringe every time they are given to my DD...and I know other parents who feel the same too. We are just too polite to say anything. What about a carton of milk / juice? Less plastic too.

greenpop21 · 20/12/2018 17:35

Sounds a bit like a packed lunch than party food!

I always make party food more of a treat.

kateandme · 20/12/2018 17:41

what is wrong with fruit shoot.not being arguemntive I genuinely don't no :/
