Feel free to be as sentimental as you like. It's dark and chilly and I've just done 14 hours at work and not seen my children today.

Let's just have a lovely thread for all those "ahhh" moments.

I'll start. Last night DS came into bed with me for a bit because he was coughing and restless and I gave him a cuddle. He is only 10 mos old but I thought, even if he has no conscious memory of this when he's older, somewhere in his brain there will always be some dim, distant memory of his mummy holding him when he was poorly. Years later, when I'm dead or far away, somewhere there will be the memory of having been cuddled and loved.

What are your lovely thoughts about your dc?

My DD is so kind and always notices if someone is upset and tries to comfort them.
I was very upset about something at work recently and I was trying not to take it home with me but DD noticed and said ‘don’t be sad mummy if you tell me about your problem we can think about it and make it better’.
It’s equal parts lovely and worrying because I never want her to feel it’s her job to make me feel better.
On a more cheery note she boundless energy and endless capacity for laughter brightens my day every day.

My DS started reception in September and announced a few weeks ago that although he loves his new school that he misses me and DSis in his heart when he's at school.

This morning he shared a chocolate coin with his sister completely unprompted too.

Some days I'm convinced I'm doing an awful job and sometimes I think I must be getting something right!

Dd1 was about 2 when my friend was really ill and needed surgery. When I got the call I sat down and cried. Dd came over and gave me her comforter and sat down next to me. Such empathy from a 2 year old!
Both my DD's have needed surgery themselves and have dealt with it like proper troopers. They're amazing, and funny, and cheeky.

My 16 year old has just walked in from college. He straight away put his bag down and helped me put the food shop away. He then gave me a phone case he bought me in tkmaxx today as mine was looking scratched and tatty. He said it was a thank you for everything I’ve done for him the last few weeks (extra lifts). I welled up a bit at his thoughtfulness 💕💕

DD8 can’t wait to go backpacking with me when she’s grown up Xmas Grin

My dds have the most wonderful manners and they are both going to be home this weekend and have said they will do all the wrapping up as I am at work.
My dsds have messaged me today to say leave a list of Christmas jobs that need doing over weekend and they will do them.
I love all four of them so much and couldn't be prouder.
So excited about having them all with us for Christmas.

Blobby10 · 19/12/2018 15:21

My youngest is 18 but she made my day earlier by phoning me (she rarely phones!) to say the presentation she has been stressing about for weeks went really well and her tutor asked why she wasn't doing the more advanced course at Uni!! She was so happy and excited and I was thrilled for her. She will be getting lots and lots of hugs at the weekend when she comes home for Christmas Grin Shes such a wonderful young woman - I'm so proud of her.

I will never forget a moment when my son was about 8 months old. We were staying over at a friends, he was in a travel cot. He woke up early morning and it was still dark. I picked him up and put him in bed with me. He couldn’t see anything as it was dark, so started feeling around. He put his hand on my face felt around a bit and said “ohhh mama”, then pressed his face into mine Grin It was the loveliest thing Grin

And today we had his 2yr development check up with the HV. He’s always struggled with weight gain (numerous medical problems), and we’ve recently put a new strategy in place to help with weight gain. I wasn’t expecting any changes today, but she weighed him, and he’s finally up to what would be considered “the low end of normal” Grin I was so happy I almost cried!

Ds 16 went on his first date on Saturday. He was really, really nervous so we agreed a word that if he texted me I would ring him and tell him he had to come home immediately.

He didn't need it and he's seeing her again. it was his first time wearing aftershave too

kshaw · 19/12/2018 15:52

My grandad is currently very ill in hospital and i was crying on the phone to my mum, my 20 month old came over and kept trying to put her dummy in my mouth to comfort me. I don't think she has seen my cry before. She is ace.

VelociraptorRex · 19/12/2018 16:17

These are so lovely! My DS (2.5) and I were out for a walk the other day, and he just stopped to make sure I was listening and said "luv oo mummy", then carried on walking, utterly melted my heart, he's so squishy and loving 😍 drives me mental as well, but he's worth every second!

Crackers1428 · 19/12/2018 16:32

The ones about the older children and teenagers are absolutely lovely (and reassuring!) ❤

StillMedusa · 19/12/2018 17:03

My DD2 (24) is a childrens hospice nurse. This week she had to manage the death of a young teen with a huge grieving family
around him, none of whom spoke english, keep the shift running smoothly and hold on to her own emotions until she eventually got home.
Where she could cry, and I could pull her onto my lap like she was still a little girl for a cuddle.

I am so proud of the work she does. She cares for dying children , she cares for their families and I'm so glad she can come home to a cuddle.

Daisychainsandglitter · 19/12/2018 17:23

I got home from work late the other day as had been working away in London. My DD who is 4 and is autistic ran up to me in delight and gave me cuddle and shouted over and over 'Did I miss you mummy' she can be very unemotional so was really lovely to see such a display of affection from her.

VelociraptorRex · 20/12/2018 09:22

@StillMedusa your DD sounds like a very special young lady, nothing beats a mum cuddle does it x

SylvanianFrenemies · 20/12/2018 10:44

What a lovely thread OP.

I am feeling pretty miserable right now as we've just discovered the baby I am pregnant with has severe abnormalities, and I'll probably be having a termination for medical reasons in the new year. DCs don't know I am pregnant.

This morning my 7yo gave me a big hug and said "I love you mumma, I'd love you even if you were sliced in half"!

My two year old stood up in her cot this morning and shouted "mummeeee" with a big smile and her arms out. Then she covered me in kisses when I picked her up.

Love the idea that we are making memories of love, thank you.

1hello2hello · 20/12/2018 11:29

DS doesn't have a bedside lamp. As I went past his room the other night I stuck my head round the door "do you want me to turn your light off or are you still reading?" His answer "you can put me to bed now". That was 14 yr old speak for I'll have a goodnight hug please Xmas Grin. So lovely to see a soft heart in the 6ft lump of hormones.

Mines a bit backwards but my DS4 this morning was found in his uniform sat on the toilet with the lid down looking really sad. He said mummy I'm so tiered I just want to cuddle in your bed. I said only 2 days left and then no more school. He said he's so excited to just cuddle all of his family 🥰

bobstersmum · 20/12/2018 12:39

My dd is 19 months and she's just the happiest child, she is always smiling or laughing, and she will just randomly come up to me and cover me in kisses, it melts my heart. She's got a little baby dolly that she carries around and fusses over, it amazes me how nurturing she is at such a young age!

The80sweregreat · 20/12/2018 14:40

Mine are in their twenties but I love them both and proud of them.
It's hard work having children but life would be worse without them.

Girlofgold · 20/12/2018 15:34

This is a lovely thread. Children are absolutely gorgeous.

My DDs seem to have sponged every drop of goodness and love poured into them and ran with it. I love how they offer all the love back to you. Very humbling.

That's my post too! They have been lovely at all ages and stages. They both came home from university yesterday and spent a happy time rummaging in the loft for decorations and doing the tree. Apparently I must never ever buy any new decorations as Christmas would be ruined.
