Does anyone else feel meh about cheese and not get the fuss over it?

I eat cheese but only certain types and I prefer to cook with it or melt it on toast than eat it in chunks. It's nice but I've never understood the adoration. I've never had a cheeseboard in my life. The thought of eating chunks of something so savoury after a meal, especially the strong smelling type doesn't appeal.

This isn't a criticism of anyone who loves the stuff but I'm just curious to know if others are indifferent to cheese or like it but don't rave about it? It can't just be a love it or hate it thing surely?

My cheese tastes are very narrow. I cannot understand how a person brings themselves to eat a cheese that smells like death. And then there’s blue cheese - every time I’ve tried Stilton all I could taste was mould. Foul!

toomanysmallpeoplecallmemom · 19/12/2018 00:15

I'm with you op - occasional gratings on pasta, potatoes but really don't understand the love

GlitterPixie · 19/12/2018 00:15

I wouldn’t mind if cheese never passed my lips again. I don’t even like pizza never mind soft cheeses and stinky ones Sad

Nah, I agree OP. I like cheese and I generally love savoury stuff but I find a lot of cheese quite overpowering and sickening after a while. I don't like overly cheesey foods like macaroni, for example.

...though boursin and crackers is the mutts nuts.

shopgirl18 · 19/12/2018 00:43

Ooh @SpamChaudFroid did you get it from that small quirky cheese shop in city centre?

DunkandEggAgain · 19/12/2018 00:51

I once started a thread ages ago about this. Especially to ask how does one go about eating cheese and crackers.
A hard lump of chedder and a dry brittle biscuit. I can't get my head around the love. I need to know tje technique. Imagine the scenario:cheeses, crackers, bit of bread (french stick?), butter(?..yes?), knife. What comes next..
I did try to eat cheese and crackers once. I tried to spread my brie on a water biscuit but the biscuit shattered into pieces and it all just went wrong. Maybe I should watch youtube tutorials.

shopgirl18 · 19/12/2018 00:53

@SpamChaudFroid Sheridan's cheesemongers?

shopgirl18 · 19/12/2018 00:55

@DunkandEggAgain you dollop a bit of plum and chilli chutney on top ☺️

BrexitDestruction · 19/12/2018 01:17

I really don't like cheese either and do not understand the appeal at all.

EKGEMS · 19/12/2018 01:37

I don't find cheese an appealing snack either. It's fine on a sandwich or pizza but I'd go for something else. I just figured I was weird taste bud wise

Shadowfax07 · 19/12/2018 01:50

I get cheese cravings. My mouth is actually watering thinking of it. I absolutely adore cheese. Cheese on its own, cheese in a baguette, cheese on toast, cheese on a cracker...omg!

Why do some people it love it so? I think it’s superior genetics at work.

Or a B12 deficiency! I could eat cheese at any time, but when my B12 jab is due, I could eat nothing but cheese quite happily.

SpamChaudFroid · 19/12/2018 01:50

I can't remember shopgirl18, somewhere near Government Buildings. We used up all our leftover Euros on cheese!

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 19/12/2018 05:10

No, I don't get it either. Give me chocolate over cheese every time.

longwayoff · 19/12/2018 06:51

Please, cheese with added fruit, wrong and horrible. Who eats it?

foxyknoxy30 · 19/12/2018 06:56

Yep can only stand Scottish cheddar 😃

MeetOnTheSIedge · 19/12/2018 07:15

I could eat cheese for every meal, the only ones I don't like are mild/medium cheddars, Edam and any with fruit mixed in. I love farmhouse cheeses, goats cheese, strong rinded cheeses, blue cheese, cheese with pepper or herbs in, cream cheese.

adviceonthepox · 19/12/2018 09:29

A Cheese Board is the best part of the meal! I'm not bothered by sweet deserts I would rather go straight to the cheese and crackers with port!

VoleClock · 19/12/2018 09:31

Bloody hell! I thought i had found my people and a thread for those not that keen on cheese has been taken over by the cheese lovers! Go away! there is enough cheese and about cheese already.
I sometimes eat hard cheese (cheddar, leicester etc) cold but cooked cheese makes me heave (except mozzarella as that doesn't seem to have any taste) and i have to hold my breath and run past specialist cheese shops. Please think of the cheese haters and leave us one small safe space....

Deadringer · 19/12/2018 09:33

I wouldn't want to live in a world without cheese. On the rare occasion that I meet someone who doesn't like cheese I am Shock

Freshprincess · 19/12/2018 09:43

I don't mind some cheese but I wouldn't order cheese and biscuits under any circumstances. I really don't like the smelly cheese or Stilton. I'm going to a friend's on new year and she's putting together a cheese tasting board and has asked everyone for their favourites. Philadelphia, babybel, mild cheddar?

Fashionista101 · 19/12/2018 09:44

I like to eat cheese and apples together too. Even had it in a baguette.

And my fave of all faves, melted blue cheese over a med-rare fillet steak. Proper chips, grilled tomato(on a separate plate because too much juice when cutting) and a rocket and Parmesan salad. And a bottle of Malbec. Alllll the wine.

Maybe I was a mouse in a past life Hmm

longwayoff · 19/12/2018 10:26

Here's one to divide even cheese lovers. Marmite cheesy bites. Yes, cheese with added marmite. Yea or nay?

MeetOnTheSIedge · 19/12/2018 11:08

A big yea for me, I have some in the fridge, they are delicious.

Hushnownobodycares · 19/12/2018 11:20

Cheese is the food of the gods. Not enough fuss over it IMO.

dameofdilemma · 19/12/2018 17:01

I've tried to like cheese (when you don't eat meat the veggie option is often cheese based) but just don't like it. Apart from a bit of feta.

Melted cheese in particular makes me gag. (Why is there no vomit emoji?)

Doesn't help I have a histamine allergy (aged cheeses bring me out in hives).

Chocolate on the other hand....
