Xmas presents for school teachers, etc. DS is in Reception and i have bought small choc presents for his teacher and TA but also got the lunch time supervisors a box of chocs as they have a difficult job and are under appreciated. But then what about all the other staff..the care taker and secretary for e.g..where do you draw the line esp when on a budget?
So what do you do? Do you buy or not buy and for whom?
Thanks ..and happy Xmas all Grin

I also agree MadMum the vast majority of professional employees are not allowed to accept gifts, why should teachers be different? Having just completed my tax return there is a question on ‘gifts in kind’, do you think teachers declare their gifts? Grin.

I am not teacher bashing, I think teachers do a great job and deserve a genuine ‘thank you’, but a nice, handwritten card or letter is surely enough appreciation?

I've stopped buying gifts for teachers.
Where do you draw the line - the TAs (4 in total), after-school club staff (3), music teacher (1), office staff (4), breakfast club staff (3), dinner ladies, basketball coach... Confused

I made chocolate bark for the DC's teachers (8 teachers) plus the headteacher and the 3 office staff. It was pretty easy. Put it in cellophane bags tied with twine and a sparkly label.

We clubbed together with the class (22 children) and got a voucher £250 for class teacher and £150 for TA
As the TA will be on half the salary of the teacher, shouldn't they get the larger voucher?

Quite a few of our support staff earn more then nqts and rqts

Tbh I wish i hadn't bothered getting his teacher anything now. She promised me DS would be in the nativity photo for the paper and he wasn't in. He was sick from school the day they took it but they still assured me all children would appear as they would do it the next day when he was in. So they obv forgot or couldnt be arsed to remember. His first ever school play too..So much for Xmas spirit. Sad

I think the Welsh school that asked for no presents, just cards, had it spot on. Picking a chosen charity for thanks by donations instead if I recall correctly.

I have never even considered giving gifts to the office or lunch time team. It's such a big school there's so many staff and I couldn't name any of them tbh.

Previous years dc have written a card with a message in, we give a gift at the end of the school year.

This year DS is giving a gift to his teacher and TA who have just finished their training to do his blood glucose and insulin, which means I don't need to go into school before lunch. It's brilliant and they have done an amazing job.

I think a card at xmas is sufficient. Don't get sucked into buying gifts every year.

Love the donation Idea and much more worthwhile.
