What do you do with all your wet clothes?

We have our on a clothes horse in the living room and it looks awful. No room for a tumble dryer and the landing isn't big enough to put it there. No window in the bathroom so not a great option either.

Downstairs is all open plan so the whole of the downstairs looks awful!
Does anyone have any great ideas?

I loved our pulley in my last house. It was great, stuff would dry overnight. I used to put stuff on it on hangers, so we got more on it and the clothes dried with fewer creases.

hidinginthenightgarden · 16/12/2018 15:55

youngestisapsycho - how many metres would you say it lowers? That is the only bit I cannot find out about it online!!
Says they have 7.5 metres of cord but how far does it come down?

Clothes on airer in bedroom with dehumidifier running and door shut.

MeVersionThree · 16/12/2018 15:58

What about this over the bath? www.argos.co.uk/product/7601543

I have some plastic hooks that go over my wardrobe doors, you can fit 5 or 6 hangers on each one. Similar to these.

Anything that can go on hangers hands from doorways and dries over night. Anything big goes on a radiator and dries within a day. Small bits go on the clothes horse during the day. Everything goes into working cupboard for the final dry off.

We have a pulley in our utility room but I kinda of assumed you had no space for one with open plan - didn't think of stairwell. Ours goes up to the ceiling but that is about 12ft and comes down to my height (5ft). It kind of doesn't matter as long as the rope is long enough Smile

Fatted · 16/12/2018 21:13

Our bedroom is massive, so we have the airers upstairs in our room.

I miss the summer when I can hang all my washing up outside.

I'm seriously considering getting a washer dryer now I have two lots of school uniform to wash and iron.

Dowser · 16/12/2018 21:24

Radiators...no tumble drier.
I don’t like them

My husband would love to put an aired in the living room...over my dead body 😡

Sparrowlegs248 · 16/12/2018 21:29

In the hallway, my airer is quite slim though. I don't like it but it's the best place for it.

ElspethFlashman · 16/12/2018 21:31

We have a pulleymaid. Omg it has changed my life! Clothes dry in a day.

We have ours in our utility room but I have heard of them in landings. Hot air rises, so clothes dry well if they're put there.

Ours lowers down a hell of a lot. We obviously only need it to lower to waist height from well overhead, but there's still more slack spare so I think you'd be OK. The website was pretty useful with dimensions etc.

I got a 4 pole and I regret not getting a 6 pole. If you have family older than toddlers, get the 6 pole. I suspect I will have to upgrade as the kids clothes get bigger.

Breakingthewaves · 16/12/2018 21:31

I had a condensing tumble drier in the kids room under a bunk bed behind a curtain - not ideal but tiny house. Left it on in the day when they were at school and it kept the room warm too

Vitalogy · 16/12/2018 21:32

I know people on here rave about the Lakeland airer. At least it wouldn't be hanging around so long, plus you can get covers for them I think.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 16/12/2018 21:41

I take it to the launderette

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 16/12/2018 21:50

My airer is in my bathroom, but my bathroom is huge so that’s probably not helpful. And I have a condenser dryer too.

All in all I’m pretty useless for advice.

KatyN · 16/12/2018 22:08

I used to stand my airer in the bath. I had the tiniest studio flat ever so no room in the living space.

When I had a bath I would lift it out to the bathroom floor and squeeze around it.
You can leave the bathroom fan in to clear the air

LaurenDisorderAtChristmas · 16/12/2018 22:13

In our first house (2bed) we had the tumble dryer in the spare bedroom.

Upsy1981 · 17/12/2018 20:18

My small box room is a laundry room, dirty washing, ironing board, maiden, rail for ironed clothes. I do end up with a small maiden in the corner of the kitchen and have a drier recently which is in the garage at the bottom of the garden as no room in the house but only use that for towels, bedding (and even then not all the time) and when there has got a back log!

Stillamum3 · 17/12/2018 20:29

Can you put the airer on the landing at *right angles" to the stairs.? Also, if the supplied cord isn't long enough, you can buy nylon cord from a ship's chandlers or climbing shop, or just use a length of clothesline.

Bodicea · 17/12/2018 20:29

Personally I couldn’t cope without a dryer. I hate maiden dried clothes. When inhad no space in my old house I had a vented dryer in the garden shed. Is that an option?

Stillamum3 · 17/12/2018 20:30

That was supposed to be right angles

Iwanttobeanonymous · 17/12/2018 20:34

I'm having this dilemma at the moment as the tumble dryer has broken!!

Tall airer in the tiny bathroom and a long one in the hall by the radiator, plus radiator airers. Not ideal but there's a big radiator there

ILoveMyMonkey · 17/12/2018 20:36

We also have a pulley maid in our stairwell. 1980's house so not a particularly high ceiling. We stand at the bannister to load the washing onto it but you can set the rope as long as you want it to be and cut it to size.

It's brilliant, definitely the best way of drying washing.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 17/12/2018 20:38

Radiator racks here. Dry within a day.

DarlingNikita · 18/12/2018 09:51

We have ours in our utility room but I have heard of them in landings. Hot air rises, so clothes dry well if they're put there.

That's why I love my maiden. Clothes dry overnight.
