Just something I'm interested in.

Lene Marlin - A Place Nearby
Darren Hayes - Darkness
Gareth Emery - Too Dark Tonight
Evanescence - Swimming Home
Frainbreeze & Lucid Blue - Light My Way
Missing Hours - Everything Will Be Alright

Just a handful of mine!

Also Tears for Fears, Woman in Chains.

I can see a theme appearing here...

WaterBird · 16/12/2018 06:38

This one folk song called "The Trees They Do Grow High" sung by John Copper. It gets me every time.

sonlypuppyfat · 16/12/2018 06:42

Also Your Song by Elton Just I used to sing it to my babies, how wonderful life is with you in the world

soupmaker · 16/12/2018 06:45

Sunshine on Leith by The Proclaimers. Gets me every time from the opening couple of bars.

WaterBird · 16/12/2018 06:58

Completely agree about Sunshine on Leith.

niceupthedance · 16/12/2018 07:23

Yes Kate Bush this woman's work gets me every time

golddustwoman84 · 16/12/2018 07:51

Aphex Twin - rhubarb
Leonard Cohan - you want it darker
Bonnie Prince Billy- I see a darkness

Crunchymum · 16/12/2018 07:57

Jimmy Cliff - Many Rivers To Cross

Go West - We Close Our Eyes (this song was the playing when I delivered our DC3, who then went to Neonatal and was later diagnosed with a rare and life changing genetic condition). I can't listen to it.

ineedhelpa · 16/12/2018 08:03

Eric Clapton tears in heaven Sad

Mumberjack · 16/12/2018 08:05

Yes yes to
Sunshine on Leith
Hurt by Johnny Cash
And yes Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is just so simple and melancholy, definitely the most emotional Xmas song to me.

Also one day like this by Elbow. Beautiful from start to finish.

I also can’t sing ‘this is me’ from the greatest showman without my voice going a bit.
Same with the last verse in ‘you can’t stop the beat’ from hairspray ‘tomorrow is a brand new day and it don’t know white from black’ I don’t know, it’s something in queen latifahs voice, raw and defiant despite the song being quite ‘frothy’.

seastargirl · 16/12/2018 08:13

Iris by the goo goo dolls
Wires by athlete.

Both take me back to sitting in nicu begging my daughter to make it, which thankfully she did, but they totally bring back the complete desperation I felt!

TheLastQueenOfPop · 16/12/2018 08:20

@SimplySteve I was going to say Bloodstained Heart - glorious song.

Also Paul Heaton - Sundial in the shade, and Let Love Speak Up Itself

EastMidsGPs · 16/12/2018 08:20

Wouldn't Change A Thing
especially with video for Worlds Downs Day 2018

Bread and Roses
any version

Nothing Compares To You
Sinead O'Connor's version

If You Don't Know Me By Now
any version but Simply Reds

Tracks Of My Tears
any version

EastMidsGPs · 16/12/2018 08:21

And agree Sunshine On Leith

SimplySteve · 16/12/2018 09:35

Also Your Song by Elton Just I used to sing it to my babies, how wonderful life is with you in the world

Quite.

Have spent the last few hours listening to songs mentioned. The One by Elton is touching too.

In my mid-teens I spent a lot of time listening to Father to Son by Phil Collins. Didn't understand why until recently, total lightbulb moment.

Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You" has tears in my eyes every time I hear it. Even thinking about that song causes goosebumps.

Many great songs in this thread Smile

Iris by the goo goo dolls

God yes. Makes me remember DS going through a serious operation, and DDs heart op. I hope your daughter is completely ok now @seastargirl

Judeeee · 16/12/2018 09:43

Afire Love - Ed Sheeran
Faded - Alan Walker
A Thousand Years - Christina Perri

SimplySteve · 16/12/2018 09:48

Now to cheer myself up. Just listened to Iris, crazy the impact music can have. Took me back to being with DS in the anaesthesia room, him going under and feeling alone, lost and helpless

Emotional for different reasons.

Roxette - Stars. A song I loved anyway, was playing in the operating theatre when DD was born. A moment immortalised in my mind.

Darren Hayes- Insatiable. cough. Sums up how I feel about DP. She received a special copy of it for our 20th.

EATmum · 16/12/2018 10:17

Another one for Your Song, again because we sang it to all our DDs when they were little (and still now, though they’re big!)
Also The Luckiest by Ben Folds.

seastargirl · 16/12/2018 11:19

@SimplySteve excluding some kidney issues she is perfect and the happiest child you could ever meet! Hope yours are both recovered!

EastMidsGPs · 16/12/2018 11:51

Have just come back from church. The little ones, adorned with tinsel haloes have had me choking up

"Twinkle, Twinkle - little star
How I wonder what you arrrrrreeee Grin

Magical

sonlypuppyfat · 16/12/2018 22:20

I wrote Elton Just! What's wrong with me!!

SapphireSeptember · 16/12/2018 23:04

Wide Awake, Shallow Life, Nothing Stands In Our Way, by Lacuna Coil
Speak To Me by Amy Lee
Breathe No More, My Heart Is Broken (Synthesis version,) My Last Breath, Whisper (the line 'Don't turn away, don't give in to the pain' is my mantra when I start feeling low because I know how easily I can slide into depression,) My Immortal, Imaginary, Even In Death 2016 version, and a load more by Evanescence. ❤ Their music has got me through some really tough times.
It's My Life by Bon Jovi.

SimplySteve · 16/12/2018 23:07

Pfft @SapphireSeptember

Swimming Home? Missing? Understanding?!
