Good absorbing gritty British crime series?

I need something to take my mind off my shitstorm of a life Grin

Loved No Offence, Unforgotten, Hidden/Craith, Hinterland etc..

Not keen on anything too far fetched so couldn't get into Killing Eve for example.

Any recommendations? Thanks Flowers

Spooks, but it's more secret service. Not sure where you'd find it now. Quite a few series.

burnoutbabe · 15/12/2018 21:56

five by harlan coben was very good.

ChesterGreySideboard · 15/12/2018 22:00

I’ve been rewatching Prime Suspect too. It’s so interesting to see how it changes as time goes on. (And to remember how much everyone smoked)

Not heard of Paula. I’ll look into that.

IndigoSpritz · 15/12/2018 22:02

Prime Suspect 1 and 2.

FadedRed · 15/12/2018 22:03

Not sure where you would find it on the internet/ streaming, but just got the DVD’s of the BBC Maigret series with Rowan Atkinson in the title role. Excellent drama set in post war Paris. Excellent set of four feature length dramas.

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/12/2018 22:03

Cracker

olivertwistwantsmore · 15/12/2018 22:05

Shetland
Cracker
Prime Suspect

Turquoisetamborine · 15/12/2018 22:05

Blood, channel 5 a few weeks ago. Really good.

ChesterGreySideboard · 15/12/2018 22:07

I’d love to watch Cracker again, not least because they filmed some of it outside my front door!!

MissMarplesKnitting · 15/12/2018 22:09

Shetland is great.
Vera
Loved the Bletchley Circle
Line of Duty is compelling.

smeerf · 15/12/2018 22:10

Informer? Short one off series on iPlayer - really excellent

driggle · 15/12/2018 22:10

The Missing
The Tunnel
Happy Valley

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/12/2018 23:19

Scott and Bailey is good.

BadLad · 16/12/2018 06:25

Peaky Blinders

BlackBeltInPresentWrapping · 16/12/2018 06:58

I haven't seen any of the most recent ones, but can recommend some classics:

Prime Suspect
Cracker
Vera

Also, the less gritty:

Murder She Wrote
Midsomer Murders
Poirot
Agatha Christie
No 1 Ladies Detective Agency
Agatha Raisin

BlackBeltInPresentWrapping · 16/12/2018 07:03

And I forgot, on the gritty list: Cormoran Strike.

Murder She Wrote isn't British, sorry, although Jessica does visit Britain and Ireland in some episodes!

ArtyFartyQueen · 16/12/2018 07:14

I’ve just watched the box set of Mrs Wilson on BBC I-player and I’m sad it’s over, thought it was brilliant

meikyo · 16/12/2018 07:57

Another recommendation for Line of Duty. Also Trial and Retribution was very good, very dark, but maybe too much about characters' personal lives for OP.

Elderflower14 · 16/12/2018 08:15

Life On Mars.
Ashes To Ashes.... ♥ Gene Hunt ♥

Pumperthepumper · 16/12/2018 08:19

Happy Valley season 1 is excellent, didn’t love season two so much. You absolutely have to watch Line of Duty, it’s just brilliant.

ChesterGreySideboard · 16/12/2018 14:59

Just started line of duty.

So far it seems far too much of police not policing properly and no crime solving.

skippy67 · 16/12/2018 15:24

Line of Duty.
