What chocolate is actually nice e these days?

All my favourite ones don't seem to taste very chocolatey any more, even my favourite M and S ones.

I don't eat very much chocolate any more because I find it disappointing.

I really want something that tastes great for Christmas, the sort of thing you can put on the table after a big meal so you can chat and drink coffee and eat chocolates.

Suggestions please!

I don't like lindt at all. I'm trying prestat... On offer in waitrose...

TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/12/2018 21:02

Coop Fair Trade dark is nice and palm oil free. Personally I think Hotel Chocolate is vastly overrated.

SueGeneris · 14/12/2018 21:08

Going against the grain I'm really not keen on Lindt either. Too plasticky? I'm not sure what it is. I agree about the Tesco dark chocolate - superior to Green & Black I think.

I do also really like Thorntons but I like truffles and not everyone does.

We were in Switzerland in the summer and I spent €24 on a small box of Laderach but tbh I was underwhelmed!

I was gifted some Doisy & Dam recently and was very good.

Lindt with toasted hazelnuts. From Ocado but am sure elsewhere too.

So so good. Also Fortnums rose and violet creams.

I only like expensive chocs now I'm on my 40s. It has crept up on me.

SimplySteve · 14/12/2018 21:21

The best choc I've ever tasted, and I've tasted a lot, is Läderach (www.laederach.com/en/). It's not cheap but well worth every penny.

I really dislike posh chocolate. Give me a slab of dairy milk any day.

Taffeta · 14/12/2018 21:25

Paul A Young ££ but yuuuum

Lindt balls are vile - all waxy bleurgh

Lynne45 · 14/12/2018 21:36

Lindt for me.

HildaZelda · 15/12/2018 00:59

I don't rate Hotel Chocolat at all to be honest. Lindt has now been tainted by palm oil. I'm not sure about all the bars, but definitely the Lindor balls.
Aldi's own is lovely. Untouched by palm oil.
You can buy Leonidas directly online. Expensive, but worth it. Especially as a nice treat for Christmas. The white chocolate and pineapple is my favourite, closely followed by the dark chocolate raspberry.
Oh, and the salted caramel!

Bloodybridget · 15/12/2018 03:39

JD Gross dark chocolate from Lidl is inexpensive and very good; Green and Blacks milk chocolate - not the one in the paler blue wrapper - and their butterscotch milk chocolate, are among my favourites. Continental supermarkets have lovely big bars of hazelnut and almond chocolate which are hard to find here in the UK. I can't bring myself to fork out for expensive stuff.

TheFirstOHN · 15/12/2018 05:09

The own-brand (Kirkland) Belgian chocolates from Costco are much nicer than most other chocolate I've tasted.
