Those with older teens, how many of you would just hand over your debit card for a night in the pub?

Just been having a chat with one of my teens (nearly 18). She's off out tonight, says she's barely got any money and can I lend her some - she has a part time job, which only pays £5 an hour so doesn't earn a lot.

I queried how some of her friends manage to go out so much when at least three of them have never had a job - she said two of them have parents who just hand their debit card over and they use it in the pub, cabs, a club if they go onto one ……..

I'm stunned by this!! Thought I'd do a MN survey Grin

DD and her BF, also Spooners!
Honestly doesn't bother me, but not with my bank card.

teen just tried to tell me that all of his friends' parents are fine with them going away to a hotel together

I think I would be fine with this Smile

Surely by the time theyre 18 youve learned not to take any notive of "awww everyone else's mum let's them" Grin

NEVER heard of this.

Incentive to earn her own damn money.

BigSandy pres are huge amongst my DD's crowd. If there's a load of them in the house my recycling box clanks the following day 😂
She's back from uni this weekend, I'm readying said recycling box in anticipation.

I gave DD £10 to go to pub the other night. In boring plastic cash. That will pay for what, 2 drinks, right? It's more than I spent on myself last time I went to pub.

This thread reminds me to get the £10 back (DD didn't go to pub after all).

Not on your nelly! I might hand over a tenner to the 18 yo if he was going out, and was short, but very unlikely, we give him maintenance anyway. If it was a special night out, or he was celebrating something, then maybe. The 16 yo, maybe cash if going out for a meal, but she doesn't go to pubs yet. A bottle of cider, yes we buy those for her occasionally when she is off to a party.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 14/12/2018 17:58

Theory yes my DD does it too, saves a fortune when they finally get out! I will miss it when/if she goes to uni. It’s a great way for us mums to hear what’s going on with their friends!

Ho ho ho

VioletCharlotte · 14/12/2018 18:05

Not a chance! Grin I may occasionally buy him some beers for pres, or give him a tenner if he's really broke. I don't know anyone who would hand over their debit card to their teenager! This sounds like "everyone else's" parents to me!
