How early do I need to be for school nativity?

Tomorrow is going to be my first school nativity show starring my DT, both in the same reception class.
The show is their class only (30 children) and scheduled at 2:30pm.
How early do you think I should be to be guaranteed a front row seat? I have the day off work (this is how important this is to me!) so can be there anytime. I was thinking 2pm but shall I make it earlier??
Please please give me your advice!
Thanks in advance

For a front row seat, an hour.

Youngandfree · 12/12/2018 19:14

Get there early and wait in the car and after two others have walked in then go!! 🤣🤣

bonniebanks · 12/12/2018 19:14

You should be there already with a sleeping bag!!!.... I would say 45 min to get a good seat!

I helped set up for our nativity yesterday by putting out seats etc. The front row seats were filled about 45 minutes before the performance.

Help the pta with the pre concert teas and coffees... you can always bag the best seats then!

FreshEyre · 12/12/2018 19:17

I would suggest that 2pm is fine. At our school that might get you a front row seat although not necessarily centre stage. I'm sure we have some parents that arrive the night before with sleeping bags and thermos flasks as they are at the front for absolutely every school event.

Boyskeepswinging · 12/12/2018 19:17

Yeh, deffo at least an hour early. And practise your sharp elbows and very fast walking if you want a front seat (assuming these aren't already reserved for PTA/VIPs etc).

queribus · 12/12/2018 19:25

Last Tuesday 😁

formerbabe · 12/12/2018 19:30

Earlier than you think!

KipperTheFrog · 12/12/2018 19:30

Wow. Our school nativity they only opened the doors half hour before show started. I got front row seat no issues. When do they open the doors? Make sure you get there for then.

TSSDNCOP · 12/12/2018 19:32

FROW? You should've been on a committee that raised at least 25k.

You're going to be a long way back watching through every other fuckers I-phone.

ThePoliticiansPraiseMyName · 12/12/2018 19:32

I've volunteered to help the kindergarten get ready in their costumes, the kindergarten teacher offered reserved front seats as payment 😂

spaghettipeppers · 12/12/2018 19:32

You might not get a front row seat- often reserved for governors, PTA, head's cronies.

But yes, 45 minutes early to get the best seat. Have you a determined granny to come along with you?

smiler0206 · 12/12/2018 19:51

I always find it better to get a seat on the back row then you can stand up at any time to take pictures/video or to wave at dc without being in anybody's way. Enjoy

Teacherlikemisstrunchball · 12/12/2018 19:53

Last year I had a parent who sneaked into the hall 2 HOURS EARLY for the school production. I had to politely ask them to leave as we were still rehearsing 🙄 now I lock the hall doors from the inside and only open them 15 minutes before.

MiddlingMum · 12/12/2018 20:02

45 minutes. And take plenty of tissues. Unless your school is like my DCs and puts a little packet of tissues on every seat anyway.

MrsLJ2014 · 12/12/2018 20:04

Me and my husband got there half an hour earlier yesterday and got centre front row seats. We were 2nd in the queue. I'm a teacher and have always laughed at parents queuing so early...I wasn't the only teacher parent on the front row ☺️

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 12/12/2018 20:09

Best trick I learned was in the morning when you drop them off go and take the school receptionist a box of chocs/biccies for the staff room. After you’ve handed them over casually enquire what time they throw the doors open.

Also sharp elbows and take a book for the wait.

InDubiousBattle · 12/12/2018 20:10

Bloody hell! It's my ds's first nativity tomorrow and we were going to be......on time. Is that a rookie mistake??

How long do these things usually take? School haven't said but it starts at 2.30 and I absolutely have to leave at 3.45.

Worried we're doing school wrong!

notsurewhatshappening · 12/12/2018 20:13

I'm a teacher too- I arrived 45 mins before the start and got into the centre 2nd row. Worth it!

SauvignonBlanche · 12/12/2018 20:16

It’s tomorrow and you haven’t set off yet? Xmas Shock

Thesunrising · 12/12/2018 20:22

This sounds like too much stress. Get there when the doors open and choose a seat at the back or the outer end of a row of chairs. That way you can just stand for the best view without blocking anyone else. Also you don’t get stuck sat next to ‘that’ annoying parent that films the whole thing on their iPad.

breakingdownbitbybit · 12/12/2018 20:27

There was a queue outside our school 45 mins before the show started. I got in the queue 25 minutes before the show started and was left standing as every other seat was taken by mainly grandparents.
Although my standing seat was pretty good, to the side of the front row!

SweetheartNeckline · 12/12/2018 20:36

Depends on what the school's policy is and if it's ticketed etc - our school hall has a strict, ticketed capacity of 240 (2 performances with approx 180 kids). Parents queue outside around 45 minutes before.

I have usually had a toddler/s with me so don't bother with front row as I need an escape route!

Help the pta with the pre concert teas and coffees... you can always bag the best seats then!

How?! I'm always serving teas and coffees while everyone else is bagsying seats - another reason I always end up at the back! I mentioned this to the headteacher who kindly reserved me some seats this year but some rude fecker sat in my (clearly labelled) seat, then said they wouldn't move unless the head told them too - like he's got sod all better to do!

It's good that you're prepared for a bloodbath OP, elbows at the ready!

Scotinoz · 12/12/2018 20:39

If the front row is full, go straight to the back - you can safely stand for the whole thing!
