How early do I need to be for school nativity?

Tomorrow is going to be my first school nativity show starring my DT, both in the same reception class.
The show is their class only (30 children) and scheduled at 2:30pm.
How early do you think I should be to be guaranteed a front row seat? I have the day off work (this is how important this is to me!) so can be there anytime. I was thinking 2pm but shall I make it earlier??
Please please give me your advice!
Thanks in advance

For the first time ever I managed to get a front row seat, and I was the first one there 😳😳 I got there about 45 mins early!!

If front seats means the difference between your DC participating in the show smiling, or freaking out because they can’t see you if you’re not in the front/first couple of rows then I think it’s a bit harsh to call those parents pathetic or say they have too much time on their hands. Everyone has their priorities in life, for whatever reasons.

When I was a nanny I was always sent to reserve front row seats for the Nativity at 11am for a 3pm start, the hall was full of nannies by 12. Then as the parents all arrived at 2.55 all the nannies had to leave as there was only space for 2 seats per family!

Bonkers school.

I must be a bad mum...I dread the school plays! Our school only allows 2 tickets per performance and only let in 15 mins before. We have to stand in the playground to wait.

Well I am chair of our PTA, we raise lots of money but never get any sort of privileges like that! I would never think to even ask.

At a push several weeks early... However, usually the front row seats are reserved for the teachers, the elderly or disabled. I took my Father and Grandfather. Prior to attending I spoke with the teacher as my Grandad walks with sticks after a double knee replacement, and I wanted to check he'd be okay. We were allocated front row seats as he struggles to walk, he's also deaf. We were the only people sat in the front row who weren't staff.

My kids school doesn't do nativities!!

I was on the PTA at primary for DD2's whole 7 years. We didn't get specially reserved seats (and DD2 was never anything other than 3rd sheep on the right).

But if we were turning up early to sort out refreshments, we were allowed to go and save seats. (I normally chose 3rd row.) Otherwise by the time we had served refreshments to everyone we would be right at the back. I didn't see why if I was there earlier than everyone else, I should have to take the left over seats.

Note, this was only for the couple of people actively there early, doing a useful job. No one got to arrive and swan in with just 2 minutes to go.

I'm jealous anyway...My two aren't doing a traditional nativity, they're year's doing songs from some Hollywood movie.. Pi**s me off all this PC crap.

Why do you want a front row seat? Are you below average height or expect Peter Crouch to be in front of you? I would have been very embarrassed if my mum had been in the front row.

lauramae · 16/12/2018 20:19

Take no prisoners, great that you're on your own and make sure there's no more than 5 parents in front of you. They tend to multiply en-route. Saw a clever mother skirt around other side of audience chairs and we reached front position at same time. She was 7 behind me in the queue. Keep your wits about you with eyes on the orize. I expect full report on the mission accomplished. You GO mama!! X

That's a great first innings- well done you!

YourEggnogIsBetterThanMine · 16/12/2018 20:42

I was 3rd in line after getting there 45mins early last week (we have to queue outside) but still missed the front row. There were already 4 office or lunch time supervisors (also parents obv) there each reserving 3 or 4 seats each. Perk of the job! DD still saw me which is the main thing.
