Fucking HELL I've been a good mother today

Both DSs had porridge for breakfast.

Walked DS1 to school with toddler then watched his Christmas performance, walked toddler home via the postbox to post Christmas cards (fresh air, rosy cheeked togetherness tick)

Apple for snack, then lovely wholesome interactive activities all morning....painting, puzzles, snap, and wrapping Christmas presents. I did not lose my temper once and it was joyful all round.

Nutritious lunch of avocado on whole meal roll, pieces of cheese and satsuma, with only water to drink of course because I am absolutely smashing mothering today.

He's now gone for a nap and I will tidy up and do some admin.

Later we are baking banana muffins before walking to collect DS1 from a play date (fishfingers for dinner, OK it's not a flawless 100% score, no YOU'RE actually crap really)

Where's my fucking Mother Of The Year badge? I have got this today and it feels good!

Hope you're all having similarly good days.

Ok, yes that is fabulous parenting. Flowers
But I didn’t get any award when I queued for nearly 3 hours in a freezing barn to see fucking santa on Saturday.

Was SO tempted to say to little ds that there is no fucking santa, now lets go home... but saintly as ever I smiled sweetly and stuck it out.

I did however call santa a twunt under my breath while little ds beamed with joy and pulled out 2 chocolate chip cookies for him to have with his cup of tea.

Nope. No award for me.
Disappointed.

You are smashing it! 🥇

Print this thread out, or have your OP tattooed somewhere so you can read it back when it goes spectacularly tits up.

Today is a GOOD day. We need more of this kind of stuff on MN. Here’s to you 🥂🍾

Igottastartthinkingbee · 12/12/2018 14:19

Excellent mumming right there!

I am making soup, from vegetables. DS will refuse to eat it, but I still feel a deserve a tried very hard badge.

No flaming idea what to make for dinner though.

Snowwontbelong · 12/12/2018 14:21

I spent an hour of my day off yesterday - paid £9 for 3 seats - to watch dc singing Christmas carols. ...
They sang that bloody baby shark song!!

IShitChristmasGlitter · 12/12/2018 14:24

am very jealous.....although am in a great mood today so that is enough for me. Becoming a mother has fucked my mental health The housework can fuck off until Ive got my DS from nursery.

CmdrIvanova · 12/12/2018 14:26

Get this - last night I made dinner from fresh ingredients and both DC ate it - without complaining Shock I felt like a fucking champion.

Spudlet · 12/12/2018 14:28

[Bows to CmdrIvanova] Shock

Well done to you!!!!

Youbloodywhaat · 12/12/2018 14:31

God I love days like that. so fucking rare that they are

When it all feels glorious and easy and enjoyable.

Lap it up OP. Tomorrow's destined to be shit, possibly even starting from when he wakes from that nap in a stinking mood. Sorry Xmas Blush Flowers

Nicknamesalltaken · 12/12/2018 14:32

I have made lentil and veg soup AND wholemeal bread (ok, in a soup and bread maker but it still counts).

I didn’t think I had anything to contribute except for applause for the rest of you, but I’ve just got DDs school report and it’s so amazing it made me squeeze out a little tear.

Fuck me. We’ve got this.

IShitChristmasGlitter · 12/12/2018 14:36

we should start a daily thread to follow to share our fricking awesome days! and even our shit ones to laugh along with or even use this one if OP wouldnt mind.

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 12/12/2018 14:51

Love days like that! My preschooler is being particularly delightful at the moment, so we're having lots of lovely days. I feel so lucky until next week, when it will all go to pot Grin

cjt110 · 12/12/2018 14:55

I took DS to the cafe yesterday, before school, after a trip to the supermarket and a mercy dash to drop DH's lunch off. And he was also in ON time to school.

#winning Grin

whiteonesugar · 12/12/2018 14:56

I am failing at motherhood today. I took DS to school in his uniform when it is in fact christmas jumper and lunch day. So I went home and got him something else to wear and dropped it off. Then i cried in the car park because i felt like a terrible mother.

I am almost 12weeks pregnant and hormonal.

SinkGirl · 12/12/2018 15:03

Ugh, I have spectacularly failed at mothering my twins over the last week. We’ve all had norovirus and I really felt like I was dying - but I did manage to clean up all the sick without complaint, struggle for 48 hours to keep my son’s blood sugars up avoiding a trip to hospital, and hose vomit off a toddler in the bath while multi tasking by throwing up in the toilet and not on his head.

But the rest of the week we’ve watched Hey Duggee and done FA. Haven’t even put up the tree.

Go you. Care to share some of your awesome Mum energy this way? I can’t even brush my hair right now.

WhyAmISoCold · 12/12/2018 15:04

Loving this post OP 😆😆.

I'm smashing being a granddaughter today. Booked afternoon tea as a surprise for my Nan. She loved it. Send DGD of the Year Awards this way please.

TarragonSauce · 12/12/2018 15:05

My teens vote every evening after dinner on who has won Parenting that day - me or dh.
We live rurally and both work in our own businesses nearby, the teens schools are some miles away, they have extra activities, usual teen mates in and out and this time of year there's lots of going into town shopping, going to Alex's after school to practice hairdos for the school dance, so life is a constant ever hanging flurry of drop offs, pick ups, changing plans, where's the dog, grandma's at the bus stop, oh no it's Mel's birthday and I haven't got a card, and so on and on and on.
So every evening one teen asks the others 'who wins parenting today?'
On Monday, I won because there was a bag of popcorn in the car.
Last night, DH won because he didn't blow his stack when dd kissed a male friend goodbye 'although he went a bit Gollum face' apparently.
I expect to win today due to the Pot Noodle incident.

VelociraptorRex · 12/12/2018 15:06

@whiteonesugar Thanks for you!
Well done OP, you are smashing motherhood! I, on the other hand, failed to convince DS that porridge is yummy, and eventually gave in to him clamouring for bread and butter for breakfast. I did manage to get him to sit sill for a haircut, but only by using an ice cream as bribery. I then gave him chips for lunch. He's asleep now, I'm hoping that I might get a motherhood award tomorrow while he's at nursery Xmas Wink

StepMug · 12/12/2018 15:10

I’m hoping for that feeing tomorrow.

My little 16 month DS has started properly pushing boundaries biting me. I’m now seriously concerned that I have majorly fucked up and created the monster and I’m not totally sure how to regain control!

Bluetrews25 · 12/12/2018 15:18

Badges all round, I think, as we have all achieved greatness or given mightily in our attempts, or deliberately failed at something in order not to be annoyingly perfect or make others feel crap.

foxtiger · 12/12/2018 15:18

I love the sound of your day, OP.

My "little boys" are grown up now, and I can remember always wanting to give them days like that, but only occasionally managing it. It's such a good feeling when you do.

Ds1 (21) and I are both at home today. He's got a cold and is fed up. Neither of us is going to get anything much done, but we had quite a nice time at lunchtime. I saw an old memory on Facebook about taking DS2 out for pancakes a few years ago. On impulse I asked DS1 if he'd like pancakes for lunch and he liked the idea, so we had a lovely messy time making them. Then we looked at the weird grey sky outside and wondered if it might be going to snow - we decided it probably wasn't, but talked about fun times we had in the snow when he and DS2 were little, and agreed that if it does snow this winter we'll go outside and chuck a few snowballs about for old time's sake. He's not a bad lad really.

Nicknamesalltaken · 12/12/2018 15:18

But @whiteonesugar your post has reminded me that DD needs her Christmas jumper for gym tonight so you also winning! 🥇

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 12/12/2018 15:21

You have smashed your life goals today OP!

Of course, this being Mumsnet, someone will pop up in a second to say there could be a leetle bit more protein in that lunch and do you know how much sugar is in a satsuma Grin Grin

HammerHorror · 12/12/2018 15:28

An apple and a satsuma... you may as well have fed him a sherbert dibdab.

Do you know how many germs are on a post box at any one time? You won't be so smug when the poor boy has herpes later.... or cholera from your tap water!

Some parents Hmm
