Was reading another thread and got me thinking about the time my mums (then) boyfriend brought her a frying pan for Christmas then asked if she could take it out the box now so she could make him a "proper breakfast"
have vague memories of it flying towards his head...
weird they didn't stay together...

What is the worst present you've ever got?

Dh bought me a bicycle one year. I was mid pregnancy and couldn't even turn the pedals.

I think my SIL buys a bunch of stuff and then just randomly assigns it to someone.
Only reason I can think why she got my teetotal MIL a pack of mixed spirits....TWICE.

I have had plenty of bad gifts, but the one that really sticks out was when I received a new pair of school shoes as a Christmas present. The pair that I'd tried on in the shop, which were then 'put away for Christmas'. I get that money was tight, but really?!

A football soap on a rope - from MIL. ( most of the bad presents on here seem to be from PIL/MIL/SIL don’t they? In laws eh!)

A Christmas tree decoration which was unique as it was hand painted in the inside - she told me she had had it done for me as it had my fave colours in it. Took it home, examined it as I put it on the tree and noticed it had the year painted on it. 2002. But I didn’t meet her son until 2003 and it was now 2009. Bit of fibbing there from MIL who had bought it from the charity shop.

Then there was the box of shortbread biscuits with the date scratched out on the back. Found out another family member had given her them about 4 years previously so being a minimum of three years out of date would explain why they were somewhat soft.

Oh and DH bought me a Natasha Beddingfield CD from Amsterdam once...........I had never ever mentioned liking her and I don’t think I ever played CD. He must have been intoxicated by the fumes in the city perchance..........

My family do random gifts, limit is around £5, bonus points if it's from a charity shop. So most people wouldn't be too excited about a roll of bin bags, but that's one of the better presents I've received - they had drawstrings and were really good! I've also received a new bath plug, and a load of disposable shower caps snaffled from various hotels. Christmas isn't about the quality of presents for us, which is lucky given the random crap we wrap and hand over on the day!

Years ago, MIL bought me and ex SIL the same nighties from La Senza. We were both size 8-10, opened mine it was the right size, she opened hers and it was an xl .

MIL said oh I’ve given you the wrong ones. She had bought the xl for me. I didn’t swap.

Friend’s FIL bought her a bag of elastic bands from Poundland and had used some out of them.
