Was reading another thread and got me thinking about the time my mums (then) boyfriend brought her a frying pan for Christmas then asked if she could take it out the box now so she could make him a "proper breakfast"
have vague memories of it flying towards his head...
weird they didn't stay together...

What is the worst present you've ever got?

My husband received a hula hoop from his grandma for his 18th. He once bought me a mother’s day present from the children- thong bikini bottoms that said ‘gold digga’ across the front.

A net of kindling, despite not having a fire. A bag of wild bird seed, despite not having a garden. A bag for life. A huge bottle of hand sanitizer, like you get in hospitals rather than for your handbag.
From DH's wonderful aunt one year. She gets crazy presents every year but this particular selection was brilliant.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/12/2018 21:08

A gimp doll from my FIL.

What's that?

Beenoutedformyhobby · 11/12/2018 21:09

A footpump.

Ginandsonicscrewdriver · 11/12/2018 21:14

A “where’s the Wookie” book and Harry Potter colouring in book. I was 28, I’d been going pig with the guy for over a year and even just a bottle of gin would have been nice.

TroysMammy · 11/12/2018 21:14

A book on the real story and film of the Sound of Music. Ok I like the film, know the songs and been to Salzburg but I'm not a die hard fan.

A standing meerkat ornament and book about the tv series on meerkats at the time. I never watched it and never showed an interest in meerkats. I like pandas.

Wonder what my sister will get me this year? Hmm

Hellomatey001 · 11/12/2018 21:15

A set of face wipes and blackhead removal strips?!

The same friend gave me a mug saying "welcome to your new home" as a Xmas pressie for me. She had just moved house a month prior.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 11/12/2018 21:18

Lavender scented bin bags from my university boyfriends parents!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 11/12/2018 21:19

A colleague was leaving work so I arranged her leaving present. It was something very particular to an interest of hers that I knew she'd love. I went on mat leave before she actually left. I don't know why, but she was never given the gift. I discovered this when I left my role 6 months after my mat leave, and I was give my colleague's leaving gift.

For his 30th birthday my dp received a bag of assorted meat from his parents, that they had bought from the cut price butcher in Newcastle and bought down on the train to London.
We have a tiny freezer and ended up having to give it away to friends and neighbours.
We laugh about it now but it was really sad for him at the time. Who gives a bag of cut price meat as a present for a big birthday?

TheFairyCaravan · 11/12/2018 21:24

My MIL bought me a chiffon camisole and matching French knickers one Christmas. I'd given birth to DS2 the day before, however he was 3 weeks early so God knows why she thought I'd want that at 8 months pregnant.

The following year she bought me lacy G-strings. Hmm

Today, at our works team Christmas lunch we had a secret santa. As the gifts were handed out, I received a piece of paper folder several times. Bit odd i thought, but we all opened them together. Lots of gushes, and ooh what have you got questions. Then I noticed all eyes on me and my peice of paper. I then had to admit that my secret Santa had given me an iou. I was embarrassed as the murmuring went down the table, and people looked at me with sympathy. The secret Santa, that we had known about for several weeks, had a £10 maximum limit. Why this person thought that an iou was acceptable and why they decided to not pop over to the supermarket a few minutes away from where we work to get a bottle of wine/emergency generic gift set i will never know. Even putting a note on my desk before we left would have at least given me prior notice to put on a happy face at gift opening. Bah humbug!

A box of Ovenpride, (oven cleaner) Aldi wrinkle cream for my 40th and the monstrosity pictured. All from the same person for different occasions.

babycakes1010 · 11/12/2018 21:36

Shit in a can and a bunch plastic flowers Confused

Bunnymumma · 11/12/2018 21:38

A boom about electrical shock therapy from someone who decided I must be bi-polar because I broke up with them!

I wasn't and am not but it did make me laugh!

feelinglikeashitmum · 11/12/2018 21:38

@Armchairanarchist that is fucking horrific! 😂😂

Bunnymumma · 11/12/2018 21:38

*book

MyAuntyBadger · 11/12/2018 21:38

A Lady Diana book from my parents for Christmas (a big book full of pictures of her), I was about 13 and it was my only Christmas present. A year later I received a towel as my Christmas present, and the following year - at 15 - my only present from them was a small plastic suitcase. I'm not sure which of those is the worst, I think they're all on a par.

Bunnymumma · 11/12/2018 21:39

@Armchairanarchist OH GOD! Not the crab again!

chocoholicanon · 11/12/2018 21:39

My brother bought me a set of coasters for Christmas, I’ve never drank hot drinks and am not the type of person to be fussy about the furniture spoiling. The following year I also got another set of coasters from him, I live on my own and there’s only so many coasters one person needs

MyAuntyBadger · 11/12/2018 21:40

X post armchairanarchist. What the fuck is that?

Armchairanarchist · 11/12/2018 21:40

@Bunnymumma and MILs wonder why they get a bad rap.

Armchairanarchist · 11/12/2018 21:42

@MyAuntyBadger it's a huge glass crab. I've posted it before but I'm still quietly seething. Grin

MyAuntyBadger · 11/12/2018 21:43

Jesus! I think that wins the 'worst present' award Grin

TellerTuesday4EVA · 11/12/2018 21:44

DH's gran gave us a tin of shortbread for Christmas. It was 6 months out of date & still wrapped in the birthday wrapping paper (although resealed) that we'd sent it to her in for her late January birthday
