Who is your "on the way to work" buddy

There's a lollipop man on my route to work. I pass him daily, in my distinctly coloured car, and have begun to wave to say hello daily and he waves back. I know I'm running late as he leaves his "post" at 9am.

Oh I love these, who remembers BMW man from last year who put the Santa hat on? Grin

mycatplotsdeath · 11/12/2018 20:41

Good looking bus man.. he always sits opposite side , four rows in front.
If someone sits in either of our seats we make eye contact, smile and eye roll 😀

McP13 · 11/12/2018 20:41

When I was walking to college my mum and I used to pass... 'man with dog and boy' every day with out fail for 2 years. He was lovely (to look at) and say hi to. Once he did see me in town in his nice car and offered me a lift home.

cjt110 · 11/12/2018 20:43

Oh wow... so so many of us with journey buddies.

I made a great train buddy a long time ago and we would meet each other morning and evening on the way home and natter. We even swapped numbers. Then I left my job in 2012 and we stopped contacting. Maybe a few months back we bumped into each other in the supermarket. Both now with kids!

I have two....

Two lovely ladies ( possibly in a relationship) who link arms . We always say good morning .

Stressed head phone man - pushing a small child in a buggy who is usually having a meltdown . I always smile sympathetically !!

cjt110 · 11/12/2018 20:44

@goforkyourself... it rings vague bells with me.

The lovely elderly dog walking couple. Lady always wears a red coat and the man holds the dog's lead, they always hold hands too. They walk past my house at 7.30 every morning and say hello.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 11/12/2018 20:45

I always pass a woman who looks like Maid Marian, except in trousers. She looks a bit like she's in some dystopian film, like she's about to shoot a zombie dragon cop with her arrow. I know I'm late if I see her too soon walking down the hill Grin

LemonRedwood · 11/12/2018 20:45

A man who walks his beautiful husky and, more recently, a small yappy-type dog, all wearing hi-vis. Several of us who come from the same direction look out for him. My day is always a little brighter for seeing them all.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/12/2018 20:45

I've lost all mine. One retired and two moved house, and my mornings feel a little bereft without them.

PawneeParksDept · 11/12/2018 20:50

I moved last year so I lost all mine and haven't got new ones

It used to be Dave and Ken the train station men

And I found out I was a buddy to a woman in the city who stopped me one day and said i always notice you because you always have a smile on your face, which was nice.

OnlyonplanetMN · 11/12/2018 20:51

I used to have “friendly old train man” who always said good morning and “young intern” but he has now retired and intern has gone back to uni. There is also “sexy, intense guy” who I always seem to see when I’m looking a rough as a bear’s arse - think just popped into Tesco after taking DC swimming and having shocking looking hair.

goforkyourself · 11/12/2018 20:56

OP there was a poster who'd drive her kids to school every day and pass a bmw driver. One day the kids held up a sign saying 'Happy Christmas BMW man!' Next day bmw man was wearing a Santa hat Xmas Wink

UtterClusterFluff · 11/12/2018 20:58

I get the bus and there is someone I call "quirky lady" (think cutesy backpack and bright clothes)

She lives literally in front of the bus stop and stands under her door arch if it rains. A while ago she motioned for me to join her when it was tipping it down so now I get to wait undercover if it's raining!

I have to walk past the stop to drop my son to childcare and once a week or so I'm running too late for her bus but she always waves across the road at us!

I have a bus enemy too though. I noticed this lady always sits in a certain seat and she looks really annoyed if someone has beaten her too it. Sometimes I sit there and smile cheerfully at her. She actually sighs at me!

And there is a women that gets off the stop after mine and cuts through a carpark to go to the same building as me. The distance is the same so I don't know why she does it but I always take a little pleasure in getting to the corner we turn onto before her. I should thank her really - she's made me walk a bit quicker!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/12/2018 21:01

Guy in shorts on bike. To him, I must be just one of many cars passing him, but very few cyclists do the 10 plus mile commute that I do in my car, so I look out for him!

I worry about him not wearing a helmet, and surely his legs get cold 😳

EmmaC78 · 11/12/2018 21:03

I see the same cyclist miost days at the end of my road. When I saw him the other day I stopped the car and told him to be careful as the road was icy and he gave me a "who on earth are you" look.

ShannonRockallMalin · 11/12/2018 21:04

Not exactly a person, but my son and I noticed a while ago that we always see a lorry from a local company coming the other way on the way to school or the supermarket. My son has developed a complicated story about them plotting to take over the world that has run for several months now!

I also almost always see a little boy running back from a shop with a loaf of bread on my way to work. It’s quite sweet, like something out of a film.

legolammb · 11/12/2018 21:11

dizzydaisies - I've also got a grumpy dog walking lady - every day she almost bumps into me as I walk out of my street and she looks affronted even after 2 years Grin

I also regularly compete with a man on the way home for the last seat on our tube carriage

AwkwardSquad · 11/12/2018 21:11

I exchange smiles most mornings with old man in black with the hat, man in tracksuit, lady with very friendly face, sometimes lady with the interesting plaits and occasionally cheery blond lady. Currently working up to exchanging smiles with slightly fierce lady. Then there’s library lady who is always in a rush and ignores me. On the platform and train, regularly chat to several work colleagues. It all adds some cheer to my day.

BestIsWest · 11/12/2018 21:16

I had a whole gang when I had a long commute by train. We all knew who we were even if we never spoke.

I have a 15 minute drive now and my only buddies are the diligent people who walk their dogs at 6:30 am before work (man with two collies, woman with two labs, cockapoo)

W0rriedMum · 11/12/2018 21:17

We have horse hugging lady. Every day we pass her on the nursery run. She pulls her car up on the kerb outside the gate to the field where (presumably her) horses live and the two of them run over to her like puppies
I LOVE this!! It would make me weep every morning!

SouthernComforts · 11/12/2018 21:23

Black car with a distinctive private plate, I pass her most mornings and can judge how late I am by where we pass.

One morning I was almost at dd's school when she passed me, I said to dd "oh my god that lady is so late!" And dd just looked at me like Hmm

W0rriedMum · 11/12/2018 21:23

I commute with my kids in the morning and we drive along a long stretch of road where various kids for a particular school are waiting for their bus. Cue "there's Mary/Philip/etc from Brownies/Art/etc."
Sometimes none of them are around and we are very, VERY late.
Otherwise, I have no such buddies!

VisitorsEntrance · 11/12/2018 21:34

The lady across the road leaves to drive her children to school across the town the same time as we leave. We alway say good morning.
We never really talk to each other apart from that.
However, one day her two girls were in trouble and they came over to us because they ‘knew’ us, knew we were teachers and therefore ‘safe’ people.

Dothehappydance · 11/12/2018 21:59

I rarely leave at the same time, but I do pass a guy walking to work most days at some point in my journey. He cuts down my road and then walks down quite a main road, I have no idea where he works, though I can have a rough guess but it is quite far. I have only lived here since June so I wonder what he will do in winter and if he will catch the bus instead.

There is also a car that pulls a dangerous (and illegal) turn at a roundabout, the 1st time he did it I was annoyed, and let him know another evening he was next to me and I knew he was going to pull the same stunt, so I glared at him and pointed at him and he let me go first. He has a personalised number plate, I want to see him again so I can make my feelings known to him again.
