If so how much? I pay my cleaner £25 a week. At Xmas I give her an extra £25. Not sure if this is stingy..?

My cleaner does 2 hrs a week. I give her £100 in a card and chocolates at Christmas. She usually gives me a card and chocs or a plant. I give the window cleaner who comes every 6 weeks £50 and postman gets £10

I used to have a cleaner and paid her £13 a week with a £20 bonus at Xmas. She always used to buy me a box of biscuits or similar too.

gamerwidow · 08/12/2018 20:17

@MaHeidsGouping I also felt a bit silly about the cleaner giving me a gift seeing as I hadn’t actually done anything for her.

cstaff · 08/12/2018 21:12

My cleaner would usually leave me chocolate or biscuits but tbh I find this a bit embarrassing and would prefer if she didn't. A bit like me giving my boss a bonus

MaHeidsGouping · 08/12/2018 21:15

Thanks for the replies about cleaner giving a present, I'm just going to stick with a card.

TheFogsGettingThicker · 08/12/2018 22:33

I am a cleaner and some clients give me money, some vouchers, and some chocolates at Christmas. All are appreciated, it's not really expected. Some don't give me anything.

I felt awkward not giving anything in return, so I took them some homemade mince pies. I thought that would cover the bases, and they seemed to like them also they could be sure my kitchen would be clean Grin

underneaththeash · 08/12/2018 22:35

We give a week's money on a JL card and a Box of chics.

underneaththeash · 08/12/2018 22:36

Chocs rather than chicks

Camsie30 · 08/12/2018 22:36

Yes and I'll give her an extra £20 for Xmas

waterandlemonjuice · 08/12/2018 22:36

Yes - a bottle of wine and a full week pay

StarlightIntheNight · 08/12/2018 22:42

Unfortunately, I think most cleaners have to deal with skid marks. In our house, its difficult to keep track. I apologise to my cleaners as the state of our toilets are not always the best, my youngest dc sometimes misses the mark (for wee) and I can only keep track of so much! We have 4 toilets on all different floors and I do not have the time or the energy to do toilet checks 3 times a week on all the toilets before they come. But I do plan on tipping for xmas, so hope that makes up for it. I think a weeks pay is fair.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 09/12/2018 09:52

I don't give my cleaner anything, not because I don't value her but because she provides a service and is self employed just like I am. I don't expect my clients to give me anything extra and would feel awkward if they did. I also make sure my loos are skid mark free before she comes and that she doesn't have to deal with anything unpleasant. That's just common courtesy I think.

ShotsFired · 09/12/2018 10:07

No I give her a nicely written card and a gift.
It works out to about the cost of a session though.

I dislike giving money as gifts, it feels lazy to me.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/12/2018 10:10

I give her £100. She’s been with us a very long time.

MacarenaFerreiro · 09/12/2018 10:12

I pay her double money the last week before Christmas. And get her a small gift for her son.

She doesn't drink and doesn't like things like chocolates so extra cash is the easiest thing and I know it will be appreciated.

princesstiasmum · 09/12/2018 11:36

I had several cleaning jobs in the past, some were generous and some were not, one lady i had been with for years, usually gave me a gift, a regift i think as one year she gave me what i gave her the year before, minus part of it,
Another gave me the cheapest thing she could find i think, an air freshener shaped like a flowe
The most generous was a lady who even gave me a payrise everytime she had oner that cost 45p in a large store in town.

princesstiasmum · 09/12/2018 11:38

Oops, sorry sentences got mixed up, the airfreshener flower thing cost 45p

MollyHuaCha · 09/12/2018 11:39

£25 here.
