I have a new favorite Christmas film!

The Christmas Chronicles on Netflix.

Bloody brilliant it is, just what I needed after a crappy day, really got me into the Christmas spirit.

And a sexy Santa Claus in the form of Kurt Russell!
(I have never fancied a father Christmas before!)

If you haven't seen it, it's a must.

We all watched it and quite liked it but I don't think it's going to become a favourite or one we watch again necessarily. Agree it had borrowed a lot from other movies. It was good that it kept us all watching though including dp and 13, 11, 8 year olds.

I don't know why christmas movies 'do a reveal' as an aside - it would be so easy to work around - jingle all the way for instance seems to be aimed at kids but its all about parents trying to get presents on a santa list?

whatamessitallis · 10/12/2018 00:16

It's a film for the DC, but it's very watchable.

Basically it's a help Santa save Christmas adventure. It's not going to challenge your thinking about - well, anything at all. But it's fun and well acted. The main characters are watchable and likeable. I said to DH earlier, they're what made it really. The same film with bad acting would be really bad! But it was fun, and the elves were great IMO.

I'm pretty cynical about loads of films (I can't stand Elf - sorry! Just too irritating.) but I enjoyed snuggling with DD on the sofa and watching it.

Actually, come to think of it. DS, who'd already seen it and claimed he didn't want to watch it again, actually looked up from his computer and got drawn in, that's high praise indeed!)

I've never really got the love for Elf, I thought it was a bit meh tbh

Elf is fucking annoying!

halfwitpicker · 10/12/2018 00:35

Ooh, that's my night sorted

NeverTalksToStrangers · 10/12/2018 00:40

Loved it. As did my kids.
I've been telling everyone to watch it. Nice to have another high budget Santa movie rather than all the shite that appears on channel 5.

Did you know that the father is Goldie Hawn's son? Oliver Hudson. So kurt's stepson and brother of Kate. And smoking hot with shorter hair.

CrookedMe · 10/12/2018 08:34

We really enjoyed it, although I found it a bit odd as I have a daughter the same name and age, so the Dad having died freaked me out a little!

I recognise that is quite a niche objection though Grin

mummymayhem18 · 10/12/2018 09:12

I watched it last night with my hubby. It was really good I thought.

OutPinked · 10/12/2018 09:16

I didn’t think it was all that great, the plot line was weak.

My favourite is National Lampoons Christmas vacation but that’s closely followed by Elf, The Grinch and Scrooged. The Polar Express is also fantastic.

highashormones · 10/12/2018 11:56

We loved it too. Nice to have something new to watch and the special effects were fab

Magicstar1 · 10/12/2018 12:22

I loved it for Kurt Russell. I'm a huge Elvis fan and he did a great job as Elvis years ago...was great to see the references in this movie.

@NorthernKnickers our President has two gorgeous Bernese Mountain Dogs. A couple of years ago we were lucky enough to go to the house and meet the dogs. (I've cropped my mother's head off the pic)

I have a new favorite Christmas film!
Sauvignonblanket · 10/12/2018 12:42

Hi - I have the same question as @thornyhousewife - would it spoil anything for a 5 year old who has seen the trailer and is really keen...

northernknickers · 10/12/2018 12:54

@Magicstar1 oh how lovely! ♥️

BifsWif · 10/12/2018 13:28

There are no spoilers, it features an older boy who doesn’t believe but the events of the story change his mind. My children still believe and have both watched it.

Tinaarena · 10/12/2018 13:44

Ive been warned not to watch it by friends. Both dp and I lost out fathers last year and they said it would be too sad for me so I wouldn't have thought it was the usual christmas film.

Is it a tear jerker or a happy one. Think ill stick with home alone and Elf for now.

skorpion · 10/12/2018 14:50

First Christmas film to have Santa utter the words 'fake news'!
Kids loved it and I liked the bits I saw.

Karmagoat · 10/12/2018 14:53

Yes! new favourite in our house too! loved it Xmas Smile

MutedUser · 10/12/2018 15:00

There was no mention of the bother not believing tho so it wasn’t an issue . He never said it out loud

April2020mom · 10/12/2018 15:15

I watched it yesterday with my family. We loved it too. My favourite character was the girl. What was your favourite part of the movie?

BlooperReel · 10/12/2018 15:48

My kids enjoyed it, particularly the elves.
