Roses were always disgusting, really over sweet, so I can't imagine them being worse. There isn't even one I like. I hate Quality Street too, the chocolate is nasty.

fartfacemcfartfaceface · 06/12/2018 22:09

I was given a box of milk tray last year - hands down the worst box of chocolates I've ever had the misfortune of receiving- and they used to be the cheap old favourites!! Horrible, greasy texture and disgusting fillings. Apple crunch?? Wtf?? Kraft if you're reading this thread, you really do need to sort it out before the business goes down the drain.

VenusClapTrap · 06/12/2018 22:15

@MiddlingMum try chopping the ends off and searing them in boiling water for a couple of minutes.

llangennith · 06/12/2018 22:18

One of my DDs bought me a 'tin' of Roses at the weekend and I was so dismayed when I opened them last night. The wrapping, the taste, the lack of choiceConfused

Chickenpie9 · 06/12/2018 22:20

TK Maxx has some really lovely German /Italian chocolates in amongst their Christmas food section . Most of them are really low priced and the ones I’ve tried have been far nicer than disappointing Roses and Quality Street .

missmouse101 · 06/12/2018 22:21

Yes, if OP had given the proper noun 'Roses' the capital letter it should have had, we would have known she wasn't referring to flowers!

Doyouavocado · 06/12/2018 22:26

I cant believe Aldi choc is palm oil free, this has made my life!!

Does anyone know any other brands or specific chocolate that is PO free? It’s really not clear online. I read that if the saturated fat content is over 50% they it’s basically palm oil

HelloGabriel · 06/12/2018 22:28

Last year I bought a tub of Sainsbury's own chocolates (obv a Quality Street/Roses rip off). £3.50 and I think they were nice enough.

Anyone had them this year?

NancyDonahue · 06/12/2018 22:34

The little kinder bars are still the same. I have four one most days. Best served from the fridge, hidden in the veg drawer where no one else goes Blush

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 07/12/2018 02:05

"half a Pritt stick" Grin

tccat · 07/12/2018 07:44

I agree about the Sainsburys chocs, not had them this year, but they were surprisingly nice last year

MiddlingMum · 07/12/2018 08:18

@MiddlingMum try chopping the ends off and searing them in boiling water for a couple of minutes.

I hope everybody realises that comment is about flowers, not chocolates. Although searing Roses chocolates in boiling water can only improve their flavour Grin

Blobby10 · 07/12/2018 08:56

Lidl chocolate doesn't have palm oil listed on their ingredients but I forgot to check the E numbers - E472e is palm oil !

I think Hotel Chocolat claims to be environmentally friendly.

Oh an Aero mint doesn't have palm oil - at least I couldn't see it on the bar I picked up last night., I discarded Cadbury, Galaxy and Mars as they had Palm oil in the ingredients!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 07/12/2018 09:33

MiddlingMum I mistook it for chocolate! I was really curious but couldn't find your earlier post explaining Grin

I had visions of two crunchies being spliced together...
(for what reason I do not know Grin)

nickiredcar · 07/12/2018 09:35

Kraft are too busy giving MN 100k to mine our data and making the chocolates as cheap as possible

lifebegins50 · 07/12/2018 09:47

So glad so many of us feel the same, hopefully they will get the message when sales drop.

The comment about Luzoacade...I thought my taste buds had changed as hadn't tried it in years..It's now vile.

I guess we all have to move on from Cadburys which is a shame as it was a good brand.

musicmaiden · 07/12/2018 10:26

Regarding palm oil, I found out very recently (to my immense surprise) that while it has indeed caused terrible deforestation, it's not actually a sound idea to boycott it. This link explains a bit more about why, instead, consumers should be calling for companies to give a rigorous commitment to sustainable palm oil:

www.wwf.org.uk/updates/8-things-know-about-palm-oil

Of course, it tasting shit in chocolate is a separate issue!

EdisonLightBulb · 07/12/2018 10:29

Old news, Roses have been rubbish for about 3-4 years.

ScienceIsTruth · 07/12/2018 10:34

Cadbury used tho be the only milk chocolate I liked, but it's been getting worse for a few years now, and for the last 2 Christmases the Roses tin was barely touched.
You can't even give them away! All of their chocolate seems to have gone the same way. Someone bought me a Dairy milk eater egg, and after 1 bite I was done. So as not to waste it, I used it in baking, but have asked to never be bought any Cadbury chocolate again.

This year, I haven't bought any, and won't ever again.

It tastes awful, so claggy and greasy. Really disappointed and Sad, but probably better for my health!

ScienceIsTruth · 07/12/2018 17:31

Cadbury now tastes as though there's a glass and a half of oil, not milk, in each bar.

carpettile · 07/12/2018 17:33

Kit kats bogging too now :-(

RagingWhoreBag · 08/12/2018 20:11

I can just see them now in the lab: "What, they're STILL buying this shite?! Shove in another scoop of aspartame, some K-Y jelly and half a Pritt Stick. That'll slow the fuckers down a bit." Grin brilliant! It didn’t work for coco pops though, they took the sugar out of them and now they’re foul so I buy Tesco’s version instead - they’d better not mess with crunchy nut cornflakes Angry
