Things you realised you did/didn’t need with 1st DC??

Sorry if this threads been done a lot, my sister is expecting her first DD in January so for Christmas she’s just asked for baby things. She is the first of me or my siblings to have a DC and the first person in general I know to have one so I don’t know where to start.

I’d like some info to what you found a game changer and what was a waste of money Grin (ie what people like me would spend money on not knowing if it’s essential or not)
I have asked her but I’m constantly hit with ‘I don’t know’ or ‘I’ll have a look’ (which won’t happen) Honestly, I don’t think she’s entirely sure what she needs. She has pushchair/car seat/changing table - the obvious basics.

Any help much appreciated Smile

Ewan the Dream Sheep, a present from a colleague unexpectedly a great help in establishing that it was bedtime.

We always changed nappies on a changing mat on the floor. They can't fall off the floor!

Moses Basket - DD hated it!

I did a mirror in the car but got rid of it. It was dangerous. I kept looking st that and not at the road.

Morrck blanket for the car seat. Great for all year round. I rave about them to anyone that'll listen!
A couple of little toys.
Amazon prime is a great idea actually, you get the instant video thing as well

Frazzled2207 · 05/12/2018 15:40

In my case

Connecta carrier (particularly with no 2)
Video monitor and angelcare movement sensor once in their own room
Ewan sheep
Good changing bag - though any relatively roomy bag will do
Grobags (check out Ebay)- not sure I used these when newborn though, can't remember!

Essentials are lots of vets and sleepsuits. A few cardigans

Frazzled2207 · 05/12/2018 15:40

Ah yes and some kind of bouncer seat to put them in

My 2 are 16 and 14 but I still remember our favourite purchase was a Tripp Trapp high chair. I believe you can now buy an attachment for a young baby too. Allows your baby to be at the table when you eat and can be converted to last for years. We finally sold ours on EBay after 10 years use and got two thirds of the price we originally paid!

What worked for us so far

Yays: lots of baby grows / vests
Shed loads of muslin
Jumparoo
Chicco rocker x2 (one upstairs one downstairs)
Bumbo
Walker
Bottle warmer (expressed milk)
Sit up ring
Changing unit (downstairs)
Talcum powder

Nays: lots of outfits
Next to me (sleeps better in wooden crib)
Baby beanbag
Nappy bin
Bepantham/sudo cream
Electric pump

We got given sooo many clothes, most of which she only wore once.. such a shame..
