Has anyone tried Seedlip? as an alternative to gin?

I want to cut out some alcohol and calories. I was in a cook shop back in the summer and they were selling bottles of Seedlip which is apparently a botanical non alcoholic drink that you can add to Mixers like tonic.

Any one tried it? Is it rank?

I like it.

donajimena · 03/12/2018 23:24

Its very expensive for squash. Which is effectively what it is. I have been buying really posh squash for around 3 pounds per bottle. I mix it with water or soda water.

Smellyrose · 03/12/2018 23:32

It isn’t expensive squash - it hasn’t got any sugar in and virtually zero calories.

It is expensive though!

Seedlip is lovely - we mix it with fever tree tonic and use slices of lime, etc, much like a gin and tonic.

Lineofbeauty · 03/12/2018 23:34

It's ridiculously expensive and emperor's new clothes in liquid form. It makes me laugh through its sheer ridiculousness!

ZenNudist · 03/12/2018 23:34

Its a lifestyle drink. Its selling "adult soft drinks". I dont think its an alternative to gin, its a completely different drink.

DramaAlpaca · 03/12/2018 23:35

I like the spicy one.

Tartpop · 03/12/2018 23:36

Can anyone describe the taste?

I don't mind paying for it as an alternative to spirits.

I fancy the grove one, with mandarin fever tree!

I like the Spice one, less keen on the garden. It's def reduced my alcohol intake, I make a nice one with ice and tonic and garnish and it makes me feel like I've had a drink whereas a glass of squash wouldn't.

Yes it's ridiculously expensive though and ridiculous that's it's more than a bottle of cheap gin!! What price is your liver worth I guess!!

toastedbeagle · 03/12/2018 23:40

The Spice one is quite clovey and tastes fab with the Mandarin fever tree!

Lineofbeauty · 03/12/2018 23:44

As an alternative can I recommend the excellent Nix & Kix mixers..on their own. Interesting and not really sweet.

peachypetite · 03/12/2018 23:45

Ridiculous price

opinionatedfreak · 03/12/2018 23:45

I've tasted two flavours original and another.

Didn't like either.

Will stick to gin and tonic if drinking and ginger & lemongrass cordial with sparkling water when not.

bluebuttonface · 03/12/2018 23:46

It's mega expensive but nice.
What about elderflower tonic on it's one, or grapefruit tonic? Both are lovely.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 04/12/2018 00:22

I was handed a free sample outside Camden Town station a few months back. It was vile. Never again.

Trumpton · 04/12/2018 03:04

It’s worth trying the M&S alcohol free G&T . I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.

helppleasee · 04/12/2018 03:48

The garden one tastes like peas Envy

goingonabearhunt1 · 04/12/2018 05:22

I think it's nice, like fresh garden peas (not good if u don't like peas tho!) Try and get some when it's on sale tho cos it's pricey as pp have said.

wombatsears · 04/12/2018 06:26

It tastes like cucumber water and is more expensive than gin. Completely overpriced.

FairyPenguin · 04/12/2018 06:29

I’m not very keen to be honest. We have most of a bottle to drink and it’s been in the cupboard for over a year. I prefer to drink tonic water on its own if I don’t want to drink alcohol.

YerAWizardHarry · 04/12/2018 06:43

The restaurant i work in serves the garden one in a non alcoholic cocktail with peas as a garnish Grin

Lightsdown · 04/12/2018 07:06

Try a few drops of angostura bitters instead of gin - is a very good alternative.

missmartha · 04/12/2018 07:19

Agree about angastura bitters. It makes a proper grown up drink. Fee Brothers make good bitters too.

Tartpop · 04/12/2018 07:38

Thanks, I have asked for the grove one for Christmas as a treat. I will also seek out the non alcoholic g&t at Marks.

I'm pretty sure I won't like the garden one.

I'll try the bitters too.
