How to respond to this message about presents?

OhHelp0hNo · 03/12/2018 14:58

My friends had their DTDs Christened yesterday and had a gathering afterwards for their joint Christening / Birthday party (they are 1 today).
I bought them each a collectors edition of a classic children's book as a present (different books).
Today I had a message from my friend saying that they've got their Christening presents but where are their birthday presents?
Perhaps I should have got them two presents each but I decided not to. Now I feel really awkward and don't know how to respond!

Good for you op

OoohAyyye · 03/12/2018 20:29

Good response OP

namechangedforthishelp · 03/12/2018 20:31

That's a good response, she is cheeky to expect more

FangTasticFeast · 03/12/2018 20:33

She’s very rude

purplecorkheart · 03/12/2018 20:39

I am shocked at how rude your friend is!! Lovely presents, hope you do not mind but I may steal it for my Goddaughter's birthday

Kitkat2018 · 03/12/2018 20:43

I'm hoping she's just worried she misplaced something.

bimbobaggins · 03/12/2018 20:48

Your friend is a rude, grabby cf.
Not only messaging in the first place but chasing it up too.
What a lovely gift you have given them, don’t let them guilt trip you into buying another.

SauvignonBlanche · 03/12/2018 20:49

What bizarre behaviour from your CF friend.

ElideLochan · 03/12/2018 20:51

what kind of fucker thinks its ok to ask for presents?

CuriousMama · 03/12/2018 20:54
Shock

Glad you did that reply.

CleanBee · 03/12/2018 20:56

did you see my earlier message? I'm very confused!

You are so much nicer than I am. I’d have texted back “That makes two of us!”

Or else, “No they weren’t the christening presents, they were the birthday presents.”

As if one-year-olds need two presents FFS!

hmmwhatatodo · 03/12/2018 20:59

Cringing for her if she’s actually demanding to know why you didn’t give her 2 presents. It’s possible she thinks she’s lost them but I don’t get that impression. I once had presents to buy for a joint party, so 2 children to buy for except for some reason I only bought for one and not the other, no idea why, just a brain freeze moment. I left the present in one of the boys houses as that was the meeting place, mother texted me later, embarrassed saying she thinks she misplaced the presents from me, I replied saying, oh, I left it in blah place, blue envelope, so on, didn’t occur to me that it was the other child’s present they meant. She texted back to say ‘ok’ (probably thinking I’m really rude in not buying the other child a gift). About a week later it suddenly dawned on me so I texted them both back owning up and saying what a dum dum I’d been and got a present to the other child sharpish. I did wonder if they thought I knew all along and then only bought another gift out of guilt but it was a genuine error!

Angeladelight · 03/12/2018 21:03

What is wrong with some people? I’d be ashamed for my life if I asked the question in the first place, then to chase a response. Has your friend behaved like this before OP? Seems so grabby it’s hard to believe it’s a one off, if that makes sense...

CrabbityRabbit · 03/12/2018 21:08

Good response. Are they usually high maintenence?

Waffles80 · 03/12/2018 21:08

I cannot imagine, in a million years, being a cheeky fucker of this proportion. Staggering.

Delatron · 03/12/2018 21:12

So cheeky that I would reconsider the friendship to be honest. She’s shown her true colours. Who behaves like this then sends a follow up text chasing up your response!

You’re a politer person than I am. I’d have told her to do one.

Shopgirl1 · 03/12/2018 21:18

Wow, can’t get over this. Is she normally demanding?

PenrodPooch · 03/12/2018 21:22

I hope she reads your message and realises how entitled she came across

Berniethefastestmilkwoman · 03/12/2018 21:22

I wouldn't have responded. She's really confused? I think she didn't think much of the books and is risky telling you so. If she says anything else ask for them back.

HaulingFreight · 03/12/2018 21:22

Are they normally high maintenance? I've also given joint birthday/christening gifts

Drogosnextwife · 03/12/2018 21:24

OP can I ask, did you have a christening for ypur kids where your friend bought your kids a present?

Coggle · 03/12/2018 21:26

If you do get a shitty response, I think I'd let the friendship go.

Letsmove1t · 03/12/2018 21:30

She may be panicking that she’s lost or left them somewhere, it’ll be a bit full on ( hoping) your reply was perfect

Quantumblue · 03/12/2018 21:30

Wow they have actually audited the presents for 1 year olds and are chasing up perceived shortfalls. Ghastly people.

MsJolly · 03/12/2018 21:40

Maybe they thought they had mislaid them?x
