Even with not that many followers some are earning enough for a huge house, stay at home father, big cars and always on holiday.

It seems like such easy work for so much money!

i think i'm going to have an 'unfollowing' session too

i tend to follow and post running related stuff, fitness and food etc. might just delete all mum bloggers

user187656748 · 03/12/2018 15:28

People follow and then forget to unfollow. If everyone unfollowed those they don't have an interest in, their figures would presumably soon fall..

AtHomeInFrance · 03/12/2018 15:30

....... oohhh, just for balance, look at Simplythenest for an abject lesson on how to work full time, raise a family (as if she is not the first person ever to do so), exhibit beautiful taste in home interiors and inspire us all to have a go with a power drill. Total love for this wonderful woman.

6freerangeeggs · 03/12/2018 19:38

Aloethere I am in the same position (wonder if we have the same hobby). It's nice to be recognised (?) for being good at my hobby and to help newbies out etc. but i don't make money off it (have had a few hobby-related freebies) and I've taken a step back as I was spending more time on IG than actually doing said hobby!

IveHitPeakTumeric · 03/12/2018 19:46

You want to chat shit about primark tat into a phone and play dress up?

How embarrassing for you to admit that.

PlateOfBiscuits · 03/12/2018 20:52

@Habba to make it as ‘an influencer’ you need people to actually engage with you.

You need content that people find interesting and want to see.

What doesn’t work is just doing those ‘follow 4 follow’ circle etc etc that mean you end up with a fair amount of subscribers/followers but no actual engagement.

Also, people want to watch quality in terms of filming/photography, sound (if you’re doing videos/clips) and editing.

Fashionista101 · 03/12/2018 21:14

When you see #ad or #spon you are paid a pittance. Very few make a real living from being an influencer. The ones that do have gotten lucky in reality x

AtHomeInFrance · 03/12/2018 21:45

Doubt that Fashionista101 given the lifestyles/holidays/freebies they all flaunt so regularly.

Seriously hope no-one thinks OP is me. Couldn't you have found a different name? Hmm

Akaudi · 03/12/2018 22:04

Couldn't you have found a different name?
Cross checking against the millions of name changes to check if one is slightly similar Grin seems practical!

Letshopeitsallok · 03/12/2018 22:09

How difficult is it to go to primark buy stuff then talk about surf? No research or planning needed.

Talking about it on Mumsnet won’t get you there! Why don’t you have a go and see what it’s like?

TulipsInbloom1 · 03/12/2018 22:17

I cant abide the Mummy Blogger wave atm. I follow Chris Ramsays wife Rosie Ramsey and she does the most hilarious piss take of the Mummy Blogger style.

FlipFlapBat · 03/12/2018 22:20

I know a few. It’s hard work and for the people I know (in fashion and beauty) hasn’t been great for their self esteem. It’s like an obsession; getting the likes, worrying about their grid, fretting over the pictures, air brushing and for one cosmetic surgery to achieve a look. I can only see it’s brought them misery to be honest. They don’t have children and are in their twenties, they earn all their income from social media. It’s a LOT of work!

I myself have an account with a lot of followers (over 50k) and they’ve told me to use it for money but I don’t feel I could! I’ve never made a penny from it (or a freebie) it’s just for fun and a nice way to meet and communicate with people around my interest. I have a separate account for every day stuff and my children’s faces have never appeared on my public account, only my private one with less than 100 followers. That’s just my choice - if I was ‘famous’ or reasonably known it would be different as my family would be in the public eye to a certain extent but as they aren’t, and they don’t benefit from it (it doesn’t give me money) I keep them out of it.

JollyAndBright · 03/12/2018 22:31

Is it a coincidence that the OP has been posing links to her YouTube channel in AIBU tonight?

🤔

GimbleInTheWabe · 03/12/2018 23:02

I saw another mummy instagrammed post a #ad introducing her newborn baby to the world. I unfollowed after that. It made me feel really sad and really depressed for her. Selling out your newborn baby for an #ad, she must have a very wonky moral compass.

Fashionista101 · 04/12/2018 10:35

@AtHomeInFrance it's true, when asked to visit different locations to launch products/brands you have to cover your own expenses and travel. Well, not all but I bet it's 9 out of 10. A lot of these influencers are wealthy not because of the vlogging etc.

AtHomeInFrance · 04/12/2018 15:34

Guess we must agree to disagree then...... and it is not really the issue for me either. It is the conscious peddling of this consumerist message which just never ends. The bollocks message that we deserve non stop reward for just doing the ordinary, the faux "woe is me" (now buy something quick) and the absolute silencing of debate or discussion through the cynical misappropriation of #women.

Cachailleacha · 04/12/2018 19:12

I think those people who make videos about their 'Primark haul' or similar are disgusting. Buying cheap tat they don't need, that doesn't last, and will end up in landfill, and then people watch them talk about it? I do not understand this extreme consumerist mentality at all.

Skyejuly · 04/12/2018 19:47

Agree. It's insane.
