Even with not that many followers some are earning enough for a huge house, stay at home father, big cars and always on holiday.

It seems like such easy work for so much money!

I read in a magazine yesterday that only 3% of influencers earn over £13k pa from their activities.

Maybe don’t give up the day job just yet.

Wingingthis · 03/12/2018 12:14

Can any one shed a light on the names of these influencers mentioned? Or is that not allowed?

BertieDrapper · 03/12/2018 12:18

You don't need to be an "influencer" to make money on instagram or an insta mum.

There are plenty of accounts out there on a million and one themes and passions that will make money.

I follow a lot of Disney fan accounts and they just post Disney stuff all day every day. I'm not sure what money they make etc but they get invited to Store openings, vip type events. Etc

What ever you enjoy doing or love whether it's crafting or tea bags! Just set up an account and start posting!
The trick is to be consistent and you! You can't post once a week and expect a million followers over night. You need to post a few times a day and ideally interacting with other similar accounts.

If you want to be an insta mum type you have to be comfortable with sharing everything!!! And yeah that means sharing when your house is a mess and you are having an emotional break down because you spilt milk. Not just the glossy stuff.... once you've got the followers you can prob get away with just the glossy stuff but it won't get you noticed at the beginning

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 03/12/2018 12:18

I'm sure names are ok to post.... they all have open public insta pages and YouTube accounts and beg for more followers....

The account I love is Claire Witt

wotsittoyou · 03/12/2018 12:20

I get the impression that the popular lifestyle-type bloggers already have loads of cash/gorgeous home/stuff/clothes, which is why people watch them. It's aspirational.

I know someone who's been plugging away at this for years. She started off skint and has remained that way. It doesn't matter how great your style is if you can't afford to buy the stuff to go along with it. The only people who post on her blog/social media etc are other bloggers - just a big group of people who try to make each other look popular. She gets some free bits and bobs, but not enough to pay for the time she spends on it.

However, honestly, I don't follow any of this kind of stuff, so might have completely the wrong idea.

Racecardriver · 03/12/2018 12:21

But how incredibly vulgar. Also a bit unethical if you include your children.

Bimwit · 03/12/2018 12:21

I know someone who wrote the worlds most boring blog about daily family life and somehow monetised it well enough to give up her job Hmm it can be done but it looks like hell to me - what if your ideas dry up?

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 03/12/2018 12:23

Yes, or your children grow up!

wotsittoyou · 03/12/2018 12:24

Just checked the Claire Witt one. She doesn't look rich at all, so I probably am wrong about what people are looking for.

MarshaBradyo · 03/12/2018 12:25

She looks very average but is a vlogger, I assume she has her followers there? I can’t look at that stuff

user187656748 · 03/12/2018 12:25

I know two people who make six figures from it and so they're not that rare.

One used to work for a well known magazine and now does luxury travel blogging. Her life is basically one big free holiday and photoshoot and she earns very good money.

One is in her very early 20s and has been earning very good money for about five years now. She started at 17. She basically gets given free clothes, make up and jewellery and takes pictures of herself in them. She was earning six figures before she was 20.

Crimbobimbo · 03/12/2018 12:27

I think they mostly have a well paid partner.

ChipsAreLife · 03/12/2018 12:27

I work with Influencers. My feeling is it won't last and we are approaching peak with it. The ROI doesn't work for companies as paid for posts get so much less interactions. Plus I think the audience is getting fed up of all paid posts and will start to unfollow.

Some are really not transparent with what they're paid for and I think followers are wising up. One had a paid for trip recently and 'forgot' to declare it as such as she was busy....

That said you're selling your life, you'd get a lot of shit and criticism and you have to spend a lot of time on it. I also wonder how the kids feel about it and if they give the parents grief. So I don't think it's easy.

If I were you I would find a stable career instead.

PazRaz10 · 03/12/2018 12:29

I know the Instagrammer you are talking about as she posted last night about OH being able to give up work and buy their new house etc. It looks easy but she must always be writing content - filming YouTube vids (Instagram is not her main platform) - I think their is far more too it than they make us believe. It looks fun, but shes basically working for a whole host of different companies, by being sponsored by them. She has to get content approval and all sorts. Most recently she's on a huge contract with Next, but fundamentally she'll be committed to a certain amount of content/posts etc a week. On top of the other brands she works with. It's a full time role, probably made harder by doing it at home and trying to cajole her kids OH into getting involved, getting the perfect shot etc!!

MorrisZapp · 03/12/2018 12:29

You need to marry an insane religious nutter twice your age, have ten kids named Jerusalem and Saint James etc and live in a big white house in Finland.

Easy!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 03/12/2018 12:30

The bit you can see isn't hard work.

The rest might be. Or has been; for most of these people. If it hasn't, they'll fall from grace now that there's a crackdown on fake followers and a societal shift away from influencers.

It'll survive; but it'll be harder. Just like everything else.

That said; you'd be better putting your time into starting a plan to a better career yourself (whether that's via being an influencer or not), rather than analysing her accounts.

Crimbobimbo · 03/12/2018 12:30

Who's that Morrus?!

MarshaBradyo · 03/12/2018 12:30

Or Colorado
Anywhere in the snow
Or on the beach

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 03/12/2018 12:32

Contract with next, Tesco and matalan all running together.... which bit is real? Isn't there a conflict of interest or something? Also furniture gifted by Another company

Then there were 2 vitamin brands in one week she claimed to love

And 2 skincare brands running at the same time....

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 03/12/2018 12:33

morris that family fascinates me!

DryHeave · 03/12/2018 12:38

Imagine your while life being a performance. Yuck. I saw a “mummy vlogger” having Instagram pictures taking in the park (and later saw the post). Seeing her husband writhing on the floor as she posed for ages was quite a ludicrous sight - and the breezy text that accompanied it when it was uploaded bore no relation to reality. I couldn’t live with that level of artificiality.

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 03/12/2018 12:41

They make me laugh though, come into insta stories saying oh I've had an awful day, the Dyson/dishwasher/fridge has stopped working

Blatant begging

A week later its a paid partnership ad with Miele/Dyson/Hoover

Habba · 03/12/2018 12:41

I don't think the person we are talking about spends any time at all writing! And very limited planning as she seems to promote three different clothing brands in the same week.

Some probably do work hard. Then others just fillm themselves going shopping or on holiday with no planning or structure and mention several things a week that they "can't live without" that are an ad and are never seen again.

How difficult is it to go to primark buy stuff then talk about surf? No research or planning needed.

OP posts:
Nestlyn · 03/12/2018 12:42

Why would anyone want to photograph themselves in the mirror, talk endlessly about themselves and boast about what they've done or seen. How vain and embarrassing.

PhilomenaButterfly · 03/12/2018 12:43

Yes, one of DD 11's career ambitions is YouTuber.
