brizzledrizzle · 03/12/2018 03:07

Shamelessly bumping my own thread. I guess very few people on here know.

I wouldn't think it's a particularly nice job op! Find some decent local clubs and go and see them?

MarthaArthur · 03/12/2018 12:16

Thanks for the reply. I have 3 clubs in mind so far but i was mostly wondering how it worked being self employed as it were as well as is it difficult to actually dance etc? To be honest im desperate for the money and ive applied to over 50 jobs this month and either been rejected or ignored. I need the money to move.

Keep bumping (the thread!) OP for the evening crowd. I've certainly seen this being discussed before so fingers X'd someone will come on who can give you some tips. Good luck!

MarthaArthur · 03/12/2018 12:37

Thank you so much aviator i hope so. Would be nice to hear real stories rather than the usual promo stuff online about girls earning £500 a night for 2 minute dances.

Hey OP, I found the AMA for you:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/AMA/3288751-retired-lap-dancer-ask-me-anything

I'm not the OP on it, but I did used to be a lap dancer and contributed to the thread. Lap dancing's a bit of a funny thing; for a certain sort of person it's easy and enjoyable, and for other's it just doesn't click. And it's not about looks or physical fitness that makes the difference, it really is a question of how you're set up mentally.

For that reason alone I would never recommend it as such, because if it doesn't suit you you'll be miserable regardless of how I found it, and if it's going to suit you it's something you'd do for your own reasons anyway. But as you're looking into it anyway, just remember that it isn't how you look or anything you could change about yourself that means it either does or doesn't work for you; it's a combination of things. And if it doesn't work for you don't push on with it, it's not worth it. And if it does, stay true to who you are and be clear in your own mind what you're looking to achieve.

The dancing itself is really easy btw, it's mostly just strutting about in high heels and a thong making "come to bed" eyes.

MarthaArthur · 03/12/2018 14:59

ratrolypoly omg thank you so much! I will read that now no idea why i couldnt find it i typed all sorts into the search bar.

When it's a thread I know I posted on I can find 'em pretty easily for searching things I know I've written Grin

MarthaArthur · 03/12/2018 15:11

That makes a lot of sense Grin

Great! That was just the thread I was thinking of! Well done ratroly you're a Star

MarthaArthur · 03/12/2018 16:15

The thread is really interesting so far. Its becoming a bit of an ethical argument which is i guess standard.

A few more ex dancers come on towards the end and it turns into a bit of a reunion :)

DaisyDreaming · 03/12/2018 16:36

I don’t know anything as I’ve never considered it but I remember a thread before, someone who was a stripper or dancer 10+ years ago who found it a positive experience but lots of people said that the industry has completely changed (for the worse) in recent years

MarthaArthur · 03/12/2018 16:55

Thats the weird thing because it sounds pretty positive the things i have read from the women themselves but other people keep saying its not like that now. All 3 clubs in my city seem to do auditions every weekday so i know i just need to psych myself up to apply and go along.

OP posts:
MarthaArthur · 03/12/2018 19:26

Reading through the thread is really eye opening im leaning more towards giving it a go tbh.

OP posts:
StripStripHooray · 03/12/2018 20:08

Late to the party but I was on that thread and was about to recommend you give it a read.

Best thing I can advise would be to go and sit in the club you would consider working in. Buy a drink and sit near the bar and watch/listen/talk to the girls working (and don't get pissed). It's a job you can either do or you can't, there's no middle ground.

I can honestly say I enjoyed it, and if necessary, I'd go back to it. The ethics of it and the feminism side are something i struggle with slightly more now.

MarthaArthur · 03/12/2018 20:54

Thank you strip thats a good idea actually.
