Without googling, do you what “afternoon delight” means?

Early twenties staff member keeps saying it and I don’t think it means what she thinks it means

One of my old bosses when I worked in parks told us in a team meeting that liquid compost was very good for a morning glory. He meant the climbing plant, we had to explain the other meaning, after we wiped the tears of laughter off.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/12/2018 01:12

Yup Grin

"Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight "

brizzledrizzle · 03/12/2018 01:24

It's the atheists version of angel delight, what else could it be ?

JessyB3 · 03/12/2018 01:28

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 03/12/2018 01:30

I'm 42 and didn't know until now! Tbh, it's not something I've ever heard anyone say, and though I know the song I haven't heard for many years.

I also haven't had any afternoon delight (or any other time if the day delight) for many years. Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 03/12/2018 01:35

Never heard it but I assumed it meant afternoon sex
Perhaps she knows...

AwakeNow · 03/12/2018 01:38

You must play the song for her.

Sashkin · 03/12/2018 01:42

The combination of waving around a snickers bar and saying she’s going for an Afternoon Delight would make me think she is putting that snickers bar somewhere other than her mouth.

Oh dear OP, you have to tell her.

NameChangeToAvoidBeingFound · 03/12/2018 02:07

Could it be a generational thing? I'm 23 and have never heard it before, I mean I guessed it was about sex but still not something I'd heard.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 03/12/2018 02:21

On a OU residential we were asked if anyone wanted to be Knocked Up in the morning.

It meant something different where shes from to where I am!!

LuthersCoat · 03/12/2018 02:24

In Lost, the character Sawyer asks Kate into his tent for some afternoon delight. The phrase always makes me think of him 🔥

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/12/2018 02:42

Taking a sneaky snickers as an afternoon delight Grin

BlackBeltInPresentWrapping · 03/12/2018 03:02

Apparently I was conceived as a result of it. Xmas Blush

A Snickers wasn't involved, but there might have been a bit of a marathon. Xmas Wink

I didn’t know until the yoni massage thread on Mumsnet which is in Classics somewhere

Alfie190 · 03/12/2018 05:07

Never heard the expression before this thread.

A previous poster wondered if it was a generational thing, well they are 23 and I am 48 and neither of us have heard it before, so I don't think it is that.

Bluesheep8 · 03/12/2018 05:51

Oh op you HAVE to tell her. Blush

maggienolia · 03/12/2018 07:49

I know what it means but haven't had any for many years.
I once watched an American cook programme where the presenter kept enthusing about how good her Dutch Oven smelt.
Kept me sniggering for quite a while.

keithschickrocks · 03/12/2018 08:05

That's so funny! "Gonna find my baby" = sexy time/love in the afternoon

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 03/12/2018 08:10

Maybe she does know what it means and she's saying it as a joke with an innuendo?

There used to be a local radio station where I lived that had a morning dedication slot where they invited you to "phone-in and give your friend a morning glory". Presumably a premium rate number Grin

prampushingdownthehighst · 03/12/2018 08:25

Oh my gosh my sister's and I used to sing this song all the time - I had no idea!Blush

MardAsSnails · 03/12/2018 08:27

A local restaurant here called their weekend breakfast menu ‘morning glory’.

It lasted about 2 weeks before it was rebranded (probably all us dirty minded brits giggling did it)

mydogishot · 03/12/2018 08:28

Yep.

Known as a "grub screw", screwing instead of lunch.
