How do you pronounce the numerical part of your address?

Just curious is there's a rhyme or reason to it.

I live at number 16. I say sixteen xxx avenue. My friend lives at 43 and says four three xxx road.

My mother lives at 157 and says 'one hundred and five seven' my dad says 'one- fifty seven'

I would say 'one - five- seven'

Just musing really

I've lived at 1, 2 and 3 digit addresses

Always for 2 digit address it was the actual number "30 Mumsnet Road" but for 3 digit it was always singular numbers "one two three Mumsnet Road"

I recently moved into a house with a name but no number, which I'm still getting used to and usually have to spell out on the phone. Previous houses: eighty-five, thirteen, one, forty. I think if I lived somewhere with three digits I'd say them as digits - one-four-six or whatever.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/12/2018 22:05

One.

Holstenlane · 02/12/2018 22:07

I always say "number 9 X road". Never just "9" always "number 9". Don't know why.

GreyHare · 02/12/2018 22:08

I've always just said the number, the only time it ever got confusing was when I lived in a flat and it was number 33 and the next bit of the address started as the number 3 but was spelt as three which was awkward to explain to some people but I'm guessing much much easier now that everything is computerised, I don't have a number now but a house name that I have spell every single time as it can be spelt in several different ways, so now I long for a number again.

minniemoll · 02/12/2018 22:10

Like several others, I'd say up to 100 in full, then over I'd say the digits. The exception would be 200, 300 where I'd say two hundred, three hundred etc

Redyoyo · 02/12/2018 22:10

5 xxxx cres lol, but as a child we stayed in 154 and 150.
We said one five four xxx road but when we moved it was one hundred and fifty xxxx crescent, i have no idea why.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 02/12/2018 22:11

If it’s two digits I say 24 as twenty four, or 61 as sixty one. But if it’s three digits I say all three separately, eg 155 was one five five. Thanks for the thread as I’d never realised that before!

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 02/12/2018 22:13

I usually say one or two digit numbers as the number and 3 digit numbers I say each one as most people above. I've lived at 3, 47 and 1-2-9.

It's the same with buses. The 2 or the 12 are said as numbers and buses with 3 digits are the 3-4-5 or the 1-7-1.

SavoyCabbage · 02/12/2018 22:13

I live on a street that has a number in its name. So you have to leave an uncomfortable silence in the middle.

Something like

Eighty-six ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedTwo Gates Lane.

TokyoSushi · 02/12/2018 22:15

My parents live at one one six, we're lucky, we just live at 2

LaLaLamp · 02/12/2018 22:19

I love doing all the alpha bravo 3, 7 November Quebec thing with the post code part Grin ps that's not my real postcode

fruityb · 02/12/2018 22:19

If it’s one or two numbers I say it as it is such as twenty eight or forty six.

I have lived at 187 which I said as one eight seven but also at 210 which I said as two ten.

No rhyme or reason lol

Oneinthegrave · 02/12/2018 22:22

First house was 1305 (one three oh five) and our new house has a name, and people can’t seem to grasp that it has no number so I usually say ‘The house is called Edale, we don’t have a number’ because if i just say Edale XXXX Avenue they ALWAYS say what number

Stephisaur · 02/12/2018 22:23

I say sixteen. I said fourth four when I lived there.

However, when I lived at one hundred and sixty nine I said one six nine.

For me, 3 digits is clearly the changing point!

CrispbuttyNo1 · 02/12/2018 22:25

This thread has made me realise I’ve never lived anywhere with a number over 100. 😂

ChristmasArmadillo · 02/12/2018 22:26

I say “five-fifteen”. Previous house was “one-four-nine-nine-four.”

MemoryOfSleep · 02/12/2018 22:27

Five. Just five xxxx close.

Knittedfairies · 02/12/2018 22:28

One.

JohnnyKarate · 02/12/2018 22:29

I use to live at 112 and I always said one one two but have no idea why. For the PP who lives at 6 thousand something I hope you just start at a high number or have lots of flats. I used to feel sorry for myself waking down my old road. Took me fifteen minutes to get to my house from the top of the road 😂

Live at 32 now and just say the number.

BikeRunSki · 02/12/2018 22:31

"Ten"

This has never caused any problems.

GreenMeerkat · 02/12/2018 22:36

Owlish · 02/12/2018 22:38

GoJohnnyGoGoGoGo · 02/12/2018 22:39

My parents live at 101.
We've always says 1-0-1, never one hundred and one.

Purplerain067 · 02/12/2018 22:43

I live at number 3, I can't really say anything other than 3 xxxx close 😂
