Delia Smith Christmas.

I'm watching her old Christmas series from the 90s. So far she has cooked some very random stuff, handled a raw goose then touched the salt and pepper grinders and given an explanation about what pesto is.

I was 10 in 1990...was good really this grim, I don't remember.

Prunes in almanac anyone? Gravlax tartlets with a rolled out bread base?

Food not good.

Oh that reminds me of my childhood! How are you watching it?

GoldenSyrupLion · 02/12/2018 19:12

I loved those bread tartlet bases.

I loved Delia.

I still remember the series where she cooked in her kitchen off the conservatory, God I loved that!

LucilleBluth · 02/12/2018 19:16

Yes, she's in the conservatory.

Oh thanks, I don’t have any but will see if I can find that Xmas food channel :)

HolyMountain · 02/12/2018 19:25

I’m watching Die Hard so won’t turn over but thanks for reminding me about Delia.

I’ll did out the good ol’ Christmas book.

Pinkyponkcustard · 02/12/2018 19:31

We are watching it too op - remarkable how times have changed - my favourite bit was when she explained what mozzarella was and how it came in a little bag with liquid!

Pinkyponkcustard · 02/12/2018 19:32

And those jumpers are something else!

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 02/12/2018 19:35

Fallen chocolate souffle with creme fraiche and prunes in armagnac was my go to posh dessert for many years. Ah I wish I had Sky!

LucilleBluth · 02/12/2018 19:39

My iPad changed Armagnac to almanac....she's not cooking weather predictions.

The jumpers are fab. It seems so old fashioned, especially when Nigella came and sexed it all up.

I love Delia still! Very reliable recipes imo. I agree some are now dated but many are timeless classics. Don't have Sky so sadly am not watching.

Which recipes is she cooking?

Chewbecca · 02/12/2018 19:46

Prunes in Armagnac is actually yum, have you tried?

SherlockHolmes · 02/12/2018 19:48

Have you ever seen the "whomoose" episode?

Xenadog · 02/12/2018 19:49

We were watching Delia earlier and saying how crazy it is to think people didn’t know what pesto was back in the early 90s. I’ve just watched another episode where they are talking alcoholic drinks and the expert is explaining what a white wine spritzer is.

It makes me realise how far food has moved on. DP likes the fact the credits roll up at a much more sedate pace than today so you can actually read the names of people who worked on the show!

AnnaMagnani · 02/12/2018 19:50

Don't diss Delia!

Those recipes are reliable, easy and tasty. I learned to cook from her website and not one recipe hasn't been a winner.

unlike Mary Berry whose food is seriously dull

And what would be wrong with prunes in Armagnac? Confused

PoshPenny · 02/12/2018 19:54

Delia is amazing, and every single one of her recipes has worked first time for me. Always. There was a time when the only place you could be sure of getting all the ingredients well round my way at any rate was in Waitrose...

LucilleBluth · 02/12/2018 19:59

It's not that there's anything wrong with Deila, it's just that it all seems so old fashioned. Prunes in Armagnac is dated...to me. It wasn't a Christmas staple in my childhood home anyway but I'm not sure who's eating it in 2018.

The drinks expert was fabulous, all big blonde hair and shoulder pads. Her top tip...if you have unexpected guests just add some water to the mulled wine. I love it.

Delia taught me how to cook. Newly married, I bought her cookery course book via a book club, the best 25p I have ever spent.

LucilleBluth · 02/12/2018 20:02

SherlockHolmes, that's fabulous.

And she keeps saying refrigerator!!

I’m sure the recipes have all endured, it’s fascinating how we can see how times have changed through the food we eat.

I’m sure on one of the earlier episodes of this series she talks about the joys of ordering food via mail order and paying with postal orders.

Chewbecca · 02/12/2018 20:11

I am jealous!

Pinkyponkcustard · 02/12/2018 20:14

For those of you that don’t have uk food - it might be on you tube? It’s called delia smiths Christmas collection

CurcubitaPepo · 02/12/2018 20:14

Still got Delias Christmas cookbook!!
