Suspicious neighbour activities

scamander · 02/12/2018 04:33

She moved in recently (6months or so)
Doesn't go out, told one of our neighbours she has mental health problems and therefore doesn't like to socialise. So I thought that explained it.

Every second, sometimes third weekend she has blaring music on and about 3-4 men arrive at dusk and leave at 6am.

The music is very loud on some nights, but seems like it's just on to mask sounds.

She's quite young, about 18-25. Doesn't go out shopping. No other friends come or leave.

She's had extensive work done in her council house, there's been drilling as recently as last week. Seems like a construction site.

She lives in the flat above me and whenever the entrance door slams shut downstairs, without fail she walks to her window to check who it is. Without fail!! I don't know what/who she expects to see give no one comes to visit.

I really suspect they're filming porn or there's prostitution going on.

I've seen the men the come to her house and they have me thinking twice about knocking her door to complain about noise.

Who should I report noise levels and my suspicions to? Also is this normal youth behaviour? I thought they prefer going out???

If they were filming porn I doubt theyd be doing it full of drink and through the night.

I don't really see what this woman has done wrong apart from have some noisy company once a month. There's no law that says you have to answer your door when someone knocks Hmm

LadyPasserine · 02/12/2018 09:55

Well, I would be concerned about her.

hmmwhatatodo · 02/12/2018 10:15

Sounds strange but I’m not sure that it’s trafficking or being held against her will. I’m assuming she’s from this country? Is it the same group of men or different people every time?

formerbabe · 02/12/2018 10:18

Well it could be dodgy or it could just be someone living their life differently to you.

Personally I'd just ignore it and mind my own business.

ColdCottage · 02/12/2018 10:25

If you are worried about her its better to report it and it be nothing when someone goes and checks on her.

I can understand why the pattern and actions seem odd.

I don't know what it is but many people are trapped without there being locks on the doors. If it was weed they wouldn't be smoking it in the house just because they are growing it.

Drogosnextwife · 02/12/2018 10:34

Doubt it's trafficking, once every 2 or 3 weeks wouldn't add up to trafficking.
I wpuld be thinking more along the lines of a drug problem and perhaps she sells sex when she has run out of money bit hard to say.
Do you actually hear them having sex? Foes the music last long?
I doubt the would be filming porn at 4am with the music that loud.

contblin · 02/12/2018 10:35

I've done a lot of human trafficking training in my field of work (teaching English to foreign students) and I would be genuinely concerned for her welfare. Definitely log your concerns with the police

ems137 · 02/12/2018 10:39

Trafficking?! Why on earth would you leap to that conclusion?

Maybe every 2 or 3 weeks she likes to have a bit of an orgy with 2/3 men? I know it's far from normal but it's not a crime!

My DH jumps up to the window every time he hears a car outside. His mum is the same. They are all just nosey buggers, nothing sinister. Why is it even worth pointing out? And why have you even noticed?

ems137 · 02/12/2018 10:40

Ring the police? And say what? My neighbour likes to have a couple of men around every 2/3 weeks and they have sex and play loud music.

formerbabe · 02/12/2018 10:42

So many busy bodies about wanting to report everyone and everything around them.

On another thread a poster deterred burglars bybplayingvpolice sirens loudly. Why not do the same and see if the men come running out of the flat!

Wink
mumto2babyboys · 02/12/2018 11:07

Or put up neighbourhood watch signs and flyers everywhere Grin

CommunistLegoBloc · 02/12/2018 11:14

Do you also live in a council house then? Is that why you have time to stalk her?

You are a fucking awful human.

mumto2babyboys · 02/12/2018 11:18

Am I. Well at least I am well bred enough not to swear

hmmwhatatodo · 02/12/2018 11:18

Hi contblin, I’d be interested to know more about why you have to have lots of training in trafficking for being as ESOL teacher.

mumto2babyboys · 02/12/2018 11:34

This sounds possibly made up as no one who is trafficked is allowed to appear at a window several times a day and how does op have the time to actually see these ongoings?

I work ft I don't have time to check my own cctv for amazon deliveries never mind check how many times someone looks out of their own window and who comes and goes from their place.

Is it a council estate then!

FissionChips · 02/12/2018 11:39

How do you know she checks at her window if she’s lives in the flat above you?

BoglingToAswad · 02/12/2018 11:49

Am I. Well at least I am well bred enough not to swear

It is possible to say horrible things without swearing, so please stop thinking that not swearing makes you a better person.

Thanks for sharing!

Rattinghat · 02/12/2018 14:39

Maybe not trafficking from abroad but it has a strong whiff of grooming gang.

HellenaHandbasket · 02/12/2018 14:57

Of course, no-one on a council estate 'works full time' 😂😂

Please report to the police and let them make a decision about this girl.

Modern Slavery

Modern slavery is the movement and trade of people of any age, often for the purpose of sexual exploitation, forced labour or organ harvesting. Modern slavery can include victims that have been brought from overseas, and vulnerable people in the UK.

Human traffickers can use a variety of means to recruit, transport, receive and hide their victims such as threats or force, abduction, deception or false promises.

Spot the signs

Signs of slavery are often hidden, making it even harder to recognise victims around us. Here are some common signs to be aware of:

•▸Poor physical appearance

•▸Isolation

•▸Poor living conditions

•▸Few or no belongings

•▸Restricted freedom of movement

•▸Unusual travel times

•▸Reluctance to seek help

•▸Grooming

Report it

If you believe a person is being trafficked and is in immediate danger, you should call 999 straight away.

Communities have an important role to play in recognising abuse. If you recognise any of the above signs and suspect someone may be a victim of modern slavery, tell someone. You will always be taken seriously and protection and support is available.

You can report suspected modern slavery:
•online — fill in the Report a crime or incident form
•in person — at your local police station
•on the phone — call 101
•anonymously through Crimestoppers online or on 0800 555 111.

If you are in a profession such as a teacher or social worker, you may be exposed to certain situations which you feel the police should be aware of concerning vulnerable people.

If you believe a child or adult is vulnerable or being exploited, you can use this form to provide intelligence or information to the police.

Help and support

For further advice and support there are a number of agencies who can help
•Modern Slavery Helpline website (08000 121 700)
•Unseen UK website
•Salvation Army website
•UK Human trafficking centre website
•Modern Slavery gov.uk website

PhaedrasChocolate · 02/12/2018 16:55

Ah come on, you know what these benefit scroungers are like... Nothing better to do than twitch the curtains at their neighbours. When they're not watching their Sky on their 50 inch telly Hmm

Really.

mumto2babyboys · 02/12/2018 17:00

How else would they have time to observe any neighbours activities so precisely?
