Its only for me and ds2 so a small order, does that make a difference , like in a restaurant, % of bill?

I just round up normally. If it's £12 then 15, if it's £18 then 20. If a round up is too far away then just give them a couple of pounds?

Grumpbum123 · 01/12/2018 19:44

I’ve never tipped

mum11970 · 01/12/2018 19:48

We don’t tip driver

MrsJBaptiste · 01/12/2018 19:48

We used to just round up the total but now we use Just Eat, there's no tipping as we've already paid online for the food 😮

Julianaa · 01/12/2018 19:49

1€ every time.

Gunpowder · 01/12/2018 19:50

£1-3 depending on how nice they are and what you have on you.

Bamaluz · 01/12/2018 20:34

£2, whether we've already paid or not.
It's so they know they'll get a tip every time and hopefully prioritise us if it ever comes to it.

Bestseller · 01/12/2018 20:36

Gosh, we usually do £5 for our family order but as it was small today I did £3. No wonder the chap.is always so.smiley Grinl

Pay online so no tip! I think I would round up etc if I paid cash.

HotdogsareDogs · 01/12/2018 20:41

Always give them an extra quid. Never a big order.

AppleKatie · 01/12/2018 20:41

No tip pay online.

treaclesoda · 01/12/2018 20:42

I've never tipped a delivery driver. The hand the food over whilst walking away, and it's like they can't get away fast enough. So presumably they're not expecting anything.

I've only ever heard of tipping delivery drivers, taxi drivers etc on mumsnet. I tip in restaurants, but it's not the norm to me to tip elsewhere. I've tried tipping hairdressers etc a few times after reading about it on mumsnet and with the exception of one, they acted all weird and gave the money back. It was awkward.

AppleKatie · 01/12/2018 20:42

£5? That would be 25% of our avg takeaway order cost. 😯 no way!

sugarplumfairy2010 · 01/12/2018 21:10

Takeaway drivers get paid terribly and rely on tips to make a decent wage.x

Bestseller · 01/12/2018 21:14

Yes, sugarplumb, it makes far more sense to me to give £5 to a driver who's come out to deliver a £15 meal, than a hairdresser who's done a £40 haircut or to give 10% of a £100 restaurant bill to a waiter who's had 5/6 other tables in the couple of hours we've been there.

DaffoDeffo · 01/12/2018 21:16

£2

Sunhill4 · 01/12/2018 21:19

Sugarplumb there are lots of people on minimum wage. I don't understand why some are expected to receive tips. I don't get tipped in my job - just my wages. Tipping came from America where people really do rely on tips to get paid!

sugarplumfairy2010 · 01/12/2018 22:08

Alot don't get paid minimum wage though. Where I live the average pay is around £5 an hour!

Darkestnight · 01/12/2018 22:27

Most of the take away shops pay cash in hand and just a small pay per delivery they make and its not much at all. My friend done it for a while and gave up as cost her more in petrol than what she got paid Smile

Sunhill4 · 01/12/2018 23:02

Then why are they working for such illegal employers?! The law is there for a reason & they should be reported! Also they chose to work cash in hand & avoid paying taxes. I pay a chunk of tax out of my legal pay packet. Why should i subsudise these people if i fancy a luxury such as a takeaway??

HollowTalk · 01/12/2018 23:07

I was thinking about this tonight. I always give a couple of pounds to takeaway food guys, but tonight I had an Asda delivery and didn't even think of giving him anything. Not sure why!

CrispbuttyNo1 · 01/12/2018 23:13

If I pay online I usually give the driver a couple of quid. If cash then I round it up. So for 17-18 bill I would give them 20

Bestseller · 01/12/2018 23:13

Haha Sunhill. There's nothing illegal about accepting payment in cash and there's no tax due unless you earn £11k + which seems unlikely delivering takeaways on a Friday and Saturday night

@sugarplumfairy2010 where do you live and what jobs are people doing where they are only paid £5 an hour?

LetsKillAllTheElves · 01/12/2018 23:33

£1 - £2. More if there is a good reason (very quick delivery/good service, really nasty weather, Christmas).

It's a shit job - poor working conditions (rain, snow, hanging around, dodgy stairwells etc) and really low paid. If I can afford to get food delivered, I can afford to tip the poor person who is bringing it to me.

I really don't get why you wouldn't tip. A small amount makes a difference if everyone does it.
