Dd played rugby at Pontefract and saw an angel.
Where is it and what is it?
It’s really bugging us. We’ve googled but can’t find anything.

That sounds interesting, Clarabel, so I Googled and there's this water tower at Ackworth (I'd guess about 3 miles as the crow flies from the rugby club), presumably it's huge so can be seen from a distance.

Yep that's the one. I'm pretty convinced that's what she saw! You can see it from miles around.

The Ackworth one I mean, it's not far away at all.

Heuschrecke · 01/12/2018 10:32

Which one? Upton Beacon or Ackworth? It appears that the one at Ackworth is slightly closer to the rugby club than Upton Beacon - but the Upton Beacon one could be considerably larger.

Sorry. X-posted!

Clarabel41 · 01/12/2018 10:39

Having said that, I think they are interchangeable in my child memory so coukd be either - the Ackworth one is fairly high up though so I'm thinking that's more likely from Carleton.

“I know...but she must have seen something”

With dd this isn’t certain tbh...

The water tower looks like a strong possibility.
Will show her when she wakes up and report back.
Thank you for all the suggestions!

Yay! Grin

LynetteScavo · 01/12/2018 11:17

Haha! I love the water tower...we even named it when I was a child.

It looks nothing like an angel, though Confused

Now you’ve said it..... the water tower makes perfect sense!

Heuschrecke · 01/12/2018 11:50

High five to Clara 👏 Grin

Forgot to add, earlier on I had visions of Father Ted trying to explain to Dougal the difference between a small plastic cow on the table and a large, real life one in the field!!! Apologies to the OP's DD!!!

TheMatriarch · 01/12/2018 15:44

Heuschrecke, don’t apologise.
This is the girl who was easily persuaded that fields with loads of birds in were bird seed fields that were ready to harvest! Grin

We have family in Upton, South Elmsall and South Kirkby and as kids we always looked for that water tower when we visited and the communications tower thingy in Upton. Except we called the water tower the 'Mushroom' and the other one the 'Rocket'
I'd still look for them now Smile

NoSquirrels · 01/12/2018 21:25

Ah, lovely - glad the mystery is solved!
