Dd played rugby at Pontefract and saw an angel.
Where is it and what is it?
It’s really bugging us. We’ve googled but can’t find anything.

My guess is something connected to the Angel pub.

brizzledrizzle · 30/11/2018 01:37

Hit post to soon - the Angel is in Ackworth so down the road from the rugby club.

brizzledrizzle · 30/11/2018 01:40

Could she have seen the Knottingly war memorial? That has an angel on top but it's not wooden.

The food at the Angel is lovely Grin

Marmite27 · 30/11/2018 05:55

Oh and I was right about Carleton Halo

TheMatriarch · 30/11/2018 06:46

I’ve shown her the screenshots, it’s not any of them.
I’m trying to get more detail, at the moment it’s limited to “it’s brown” and “it was in the distance”.
Does that help? (I’m guessing not!) Will quiz her and try to get some better detail.

Did she go through Knottingley?

Their war memorial is an angel

romany4 · 30/11/2018 10:20

I used to live near Pontefract.

Leela2 · 30/11/2018 12:00

The knife angel? It was getting transported recently

Clarabel41 · 30/11/2018 12:19

I've asked my dad. If he can't pinpoint where it is then it doesn't exist Grin

alfagirl73 · 30/11/2018 14:18

I'm near Ponte and don't recognise it.

TheMatriarch · 30/11/2018 14:31

I showed her the war memorial, she said no.

Will show her the knife angel and see what she says.

what direction was she coming from OP? Approximately?

TheMatriarch · 30/11/2018 14:52

She was at the rugby club when she saw it.

There’s no point asking her which direction, this is the girl who thought Whitby was abroad! She has no sense of direction whatsoever.

Had she been hit on the head with a rugby ball?

LupinsNotBluebells · 30/11/2018 15:48

How close can you get to the rugby pitch on google earth?

storminabuttercup · 30/11/2018 15:49

It wasn’t a medal or anything in the rugby club was it? I can’t think of anything big enough to be seen in the distance from that spot?

brizzledrizzle · 30/11/2018 15:52

could it have been this seen from an odd angle?

Marmite27 · 30/11/2018 17:17

That’s in Featherstone though 🤔

TheMatriarch · 30/11/2018 23:00

“Had she been hit on the head with a rugby ball?”

It’s very possible!

I know...but she must have seen something Confused

Heuschrecke · 01/12/2018 06:04

I'm nowhere near Pontefract, but this thread has fascinated me. That knife angel looks fairly scary though!

NoSquirrels · 01/12/2018 09:39

it’s brown” and “it was in the distance” and she thought it was the Angel of the North

What route did they travel from your place to Pontefract and back? If it was something big and brown and angel-shaped in the distance, could it have in fact been the Angel of the North anyway?

NoSquirrels · 01/12/2018 09:47

She was at the rugby club when she saw it. Ah- apologies, missed this bit! Something advertising the Angel of the North, or an actual sculpture?

Clarabel41 · 01/12/2018 10:10

My dad had an idea about the local church but I grew up in the area and something has been niggling at me since I first read this....it just came to me that as a little kid I used to be able to see the water tower in the distance from all over the place and I always thought that looked like an angel Smile

I don't know for sure but I bet you can see that from the rugby club, if it's the RUFC ground at Carleton that I'm thinking of.
