I left a less than 5* feedback for a company on Amazon and they are writng letters to me

A few weeks ago I ordered a cosmetics sharpener.
Its total size is smaller than a match box.
It arrived inside a box that would have easily accomodated 100 of them
NYX sharpener for big and small pencils if any help.

When asked for feedback, I gave them 3* and noted that the packaging was excessive.
Since then I have had 3 emails asking me to remove the negative feedback or change it. The this morning, a letter in the post which has never happened to me before.
I sell on line (not much, but I do) and I understand how feedback impacts but if I have had something less then 5* I have never asked anyone to adjust their rating. Never mind send letters...

Is this a bit much.
Was I too harsh?
Should they be writing to me?
They assure me that they have changed their warehouse procedures and the box came for their supplier....
Any thoughts for me to ponder gratefully received.

Way ott, I would report to Amazon. And then another review asking why they've sent you 3 emails and a letter to try and get you to change your review.

YeOldeTrout · 27/11/2018 10:22

What Nessie said.

Bitchfromhell · 27/11/2018 10:22

Forward their messages to Amazon, asking Amazon to ensure they desist corresponding with you. They are probably breaching their terms with the site (I think).
Anyway, they are Amazons problem, not yours, you gave an honest review.

SylvanianFrenemies · 27/11/2018 10:22

Was the product good? The thing is people will see 3 stars and assume it is for the product. Packaging is a separate issue.

They are being weird,though.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/11/2018 10:23

I'd be adding another review that they refuse to take any kind of criticsim.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2018 10:26

I think your review was overly harsh but they have behaved badly now.

ExplodedPeach · 27/11/2018 10:34

I think YABU because issues with the seller aren't relevant for amazon product reviews. The same reviews often show up for an item thats available from different sellers.

lolaflores · 27/11/2018 10:40

The fact they are pursuing me about feedback is the problem. Not the reason for the feedback.

OP posts:
NerrSnerr · 27/11/2018 10:45

YABU for leaving feedback inappropriately. The feedback should be about the product and not the packaging, if you want to leave feedback for packaging go to your account and there's an option for that. It's really annoying when you want to buy a product and people are leaving feedback about packaging and delivery and stuff.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/11/2018 10:51

Excess packaging is something I'd like to know about as a customer. It really bugs me

Kintan · 27/11/2018 10:54

I can see why they are trying to get you to remove the feedback as you were not leaving feedback for the product itself. They are being really over the top now, so get in touch with Amazon and complain about being harassed.

I wouldn't change the feedback to reflect their harassment, I suspect this would only discourage people from leaving poor feedback in the future.
Report to Amazon.

lolaflores · 27/11/2018 11:45

I have emailed them politley asking them to not contact me any further. As I looked at other feedback left by customers, they don't have good form for overall customer service. There was one other comment about packaging too, so I am not in the minority.
In all my time buying on Amazon, I have never received a letter like this. In fact, I overall find nothing to complain about from companies. Quite surprised by this.
I wasn't aware that the feedback was solely about the product. I thought it was about the service you received.

PinsPegs · 27/11/2018 12:00

I'm with the company as long as they were polite.

Feedback should have only been about the product. You definitely made a mistake to let the postal packaging effect your rating of the product.

Personally I'd just change the review and not worry about it. It take two secs. If it's genuinely a 5* product then it's helpful for other people looking at the product to know that.

Not rectifying your mistake in order to punish the company for writing to you seems a bit petty TBH.

OverTheHedgeSammy · 27/11/2018 12:01

You might think it's excessive packaging, but you chose to buy an itsy bitsy item that needs to somehow get to you. If they posted it in a small container, it would likely get lost/damaged. It needs to be big enough to not get lost in the courier system.

AdamNichol · 27/11/2018 12:06

The company needs to accept the feedback for what it was. If they can write a response, then do that. But OP said on the feedback why it got what it did - and it was pertinent to the transaction (unlike those ones who complain that the courier dropped it to no3 and we hate them, etc). People reading the reviews can have the reason for the score to take under advisement.

Ginnymweasley · 27/11/2018 12:07

I think your review is now irrelevant tbh. They shouldn't keep sending you letters etc. I'd report them to Amazon.

Workreturner · 27/11/2018 12:18

I think you were unfair
As do they
They are responding to what they regard to be unfair feedback

So I don’t think they are being unreasonable

I think you were unfair to downgrade on the basis of excessive packaging (too little packaging may well have justified a star off)

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 27/11/2018 12:24

I don't think you were unfair. Excess packaging is something that would annoy many people. It is also worth noting as if I ordered something of that size I would expect it to be able to fit through the letter box, knowing it might come in an excessively large box which might not fit would be incredibly handy.

I think I would report it to Amazon. A company should accept that a persons view is their view, you cannot expect everyone to leave you 5* feedback when you sell online, its simply impossible.

To send numerous emails and a personal letter to your home address is ironically just like their packaging, excessive!

Willow1992 · 27/11/2018 12:25

You should message Amazon about the correspondence because that doesn't sound professional but I agree it's irritating and pointless when people leave a product review which is actually a distributor review. There should be a way for sellers to have irrelevant feedback removed. There is a separate place to leave feedback for the distributor. It's like whinging to Kellogs that the cashier in Tesco was rude when he sold you your Corn Flakes - what do you expect the company who makes the product to do about it? They probably had nothing to do with the packaging.

Flamencoflamingo · 27/11/2018 12:32

It doesn’t really matter if we think OP was fair or unfair. A review is ultimately subjective, and OP can leave whatever star rating she likes.

I think there is a difference between reviewing packaging which, whilst not directly relevant to the product is still within the seller’s control and will matter to some people, as opposed to the sorts of people who leave 3* reviews for hotels because it was raining during their stay.

TuckMyWin · 27/11/2018 12:48

Seriously? The packaging is not their responsibility or relevant? It totally is! How on earth will we ever get companies to change their shipping processes to take account of the fact that we don't have endless amounts of space on this planet to dig fucking great holes in which to bury the excess packaging that they choose to use if we don't hold them to account for it? The reviews process is the only influence we as consumers have over the decisions they make about the way they do business. Whether that's the quality of the material they use to make their product or the amount of material they choose to package it in. The fact that they say they have changed their packaging and shipment processes shows that giving average (not negative) feedback was exactly the right thing to do, because they've listened! If the OP chooses to order from them again, and they have indeed changed their packaging, then her future review will take account of that accordingly.

TuckMyWin · 27/11/2018 12:54

And as far as I can see it's not the same at all as whinging to Kelloggs because the cashier in Tesco was rude. They choose the suppliers they use. They pay them to supply to them, the same way they pay the company that makes the pencil sharpener in the first place. They have control over which supplier they use, and can feedback accordingly if their customers complain about either the quality of the product or the way it's packaged. They said they've changed their warehouse procedures, which proves they have control, and which shows that customer feedback does influence the choices they make about how they make and sell their product.

greendale17 · 27/11/2018 12:56

I agree with the company
