I left a less than 5* feedback for a company on Amazon and they are writng letters to me

A few weeks ago I ordered a cosmetics sharpener.
Its total size is smaller than a match box.
It arrived inside a box that would have easily accomodated 100 of them
NYX sharpener for big and small pencils if any help.

When asked for feedback, I gave them 3* and noted that the packaging was excessive.
Since then I have had 3 emails asking me to remove the negative feedback or change it. The this morning, a letter in the post which has never happened to me before.
I sell on line (not much, but I do) and I understand how feedback impacts but if I have had something less then 5* I have never asked anyone to adjust their rating. Never mind send letters...

Is this a bit much.
Was I too harsh?
Should they be writing to me?
They assure me that they have changed their warehouse procedures and the box came for their supplier....
Any thoughts for me to ponder gratefully received.

I left a bad Lakeland review once and they rang me offering a replacement product. I said no but also agreed to not publish the review. At least I know it was read by them so they can feedback to their buyers

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 27/11/2018 13:09

Whether the packaging was inappropriate or not, and whether the review was justified or not, isn't really the problem.

The problem is the company harrassing one of their customers, and pressuring them to remove a negative (middling) review. That completely defeats the object of customer feedback and makes me really distrust the company. They shouldn't be using OP's email and certainly not her address for that.

Please write to amazon and report that. It's awful!

Dottierichardson · 27/11/2018 13:13

YANBU the review facility for Amazon marketplace goods allows for feedback on the company and on the product; part of that feedback is related to service which included shipping - speed of delivery, packaging and so on...The company are essentially harassing you, I personally wouldn't put up with that, I would report to Amazon and let them sort it out, they don't want companies hassling their customers so should deal with it...

abbsisspartacus · 27/11/2018 13:19

Can they not reply to feedback left?

PinsPegs · 27/11/2018 14:08

I don’t like excess packaging but it’s a PRODUCT review that you left. It’s not to do with the postal packaging or customer service it’s ONLY to do with the product.

It’s very clear. The clue is in the name....

Many products are sold by multiply suppliers so writing about one companies packaging or customer service when leaving a product review pointless

You can leave SELLER FEEDBACK separately under the sellers Amazon storefront. Your feedback about packaging and customer service belongs here.

You made an easy-to-make mistake and have been asked to change it. I think you are being unreasonable not to.

have been asked to change it - but 4 times is acceptable to you? To not get the desired response by email, they then send a letter? That is not on at all. If they were that bothered they could have replied to the feedback on amazon.

DGRossetti · 27/11/2018 14:47

I'd start with the fact that it's a plain and simple data protection issue, with a soupçon of GDPR on the side. You didn't give them your address for anything other that the fulfilment of the order, and them writing to at that address without your consent makes it worse.

Let the ICO ico.org.uk/ know as well.

Nesssie · 27/11/2018 14:49

DGRossetti I was thinking along the same lines actually.

lolaflores · 27/11/2018 15:32

Yes. I think they misused my information on some level. Their feedback issue was not a topic to communicate with me through the post. It feels too close for comfort.
I am looking at all the contact us bits in Amazon bit I can't seem to find a phone number or a direct email.

Just report them to the ICO.

lolaflores · 27/11/2018 16:00

Spoke to Amazon and they assured me that this was a violation of their sellers codes and that they would be taking steps.
Apologized for the experience and were generally very helpful.

Whatever the inadvertent slip up on my behalf, i.e. leaving the wrong comment in the wrong area, the subsequent badgering was entirely unacceptable.

Even before I got the item, they were emailing me as to whether I had received it, then subsequent emails asking me to leave feedback. the packaging had struck me as excessive and I wasn't going to leave any comment but they kept on and on. The only thing I thought about saying when asked about customer service was the packaging.
Then this.

And I am going to go to ICO as well.
I ahve emaild the company and very politely told them I was not going ot change my feedback.
That they were not to attempt to contact me in any shape or form.
i sincerely hope they pay heed.

I have been badgered like this by a company in the past. I emailed as you did, but they continued.
So I went and edited my feedback to let others know that this company only like 5-star fb. Anything less and they hound the customer to change it hence I am editing it. I stand by my original fb which has remained unchanged.

I could almost see the steam from the person with the next email I got from the company. Yes, I reported to Amazon.

As for the comments about well the company has to use bigger packaging to minimise damage or for the package to not get lost. This is where the bubble envelopes come into use. I bought the pencil sharpener from elsewhere. It came in its own little box and in a bubble envelope. It didn't get damaged nor lost. Using that excuse is a cop out and if companies cannot think of ways to deliver fragile items without huge boxes then they shouldn't be selling those items.

And as a seller, I have been on the other side of the fence. Posted fragile items. I managed to do this without the need for a huge box.

DGRossetti · 27/11/2018 17:03

Drifting slightly, but Amazon usually have a section where you can review orders and one of the questions is about packaging.

Stupomax · 27/11/2018 17:32

Did they parcel up package themselves or use Fulfilled by Amazon? If FBA then they wouldn't have sent the package themselves - it would have been packaged and sent by Amazon. Just a thought.

They definitely shouldn't he harassing you though - good that you've let Amazon know.

PinsPegs · 27/11/2018 17:33

Janedoe5000

No need to be so rude. 🙄. Did you actually read my post. I am correct and I attached screen shots to prove it.

The OP has acknowledged that she was wrong to leave feedback about the packaging on the product review.

I understand that the excessive badgering by the company is not ok though.

lolaflores · 27/11/2018 17:56

I am quite sure that the majority of people who leave feedback just answer the prompts to the questions that appear when leaving feedback. I just flick through and respond to what I am asked about.
I was answering questions, I thought, about the overall experience.
As it happened, other customers left comments on packaging and service as well.
As I said earlier, I have never had need to really comment in any negative way. This is a first and in future I won't be leaving feedback. Good or bad.
