A x E = DI, B x E = AE, C x E = C, D x E = IA, E x E = BA,
F x E = E, G x E = JB, H x E = GI, I x E = FB, J x E = AC

No other question or context?

AlbusPercival · 26/11/2018 20:31

F = 1

AlbusPercival · 26/11/2018 20:33

A=B

See I thought E was 1

lilyboleyn · 26/11/2018 20:34

Yes to a= b

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 26/11/2018 20:34

How old is your daughter?

Is this for GCSE?

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 26/11/2018 20:35

E=0?

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 26/11/2018 20:35

But no, then C×E would equal E not C.

E could well be 1.

AlbusPercival · 26/11/2018 20:35

If you are trying to get a solution for each letter then a facile one is to make every letter worth 0 or alternatively every letter worth 1

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 26/11/2018 20:36

C = 0

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 26/11/2018 20:39

If E=1, then F is also 1 and so are B and A.

Cadsuane · 26/11/2018 20:40

E can't be 1 as e x e =ba. So e must be 4 7, 8 or 9. C must be 0 and F=1 which then means E can't be 4 or 9.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 26/11/2018 20:40

And J would be 0 too as AC would be 0.

This is confusing!

AnotherSofaDay · 26/11/2018 20:40

F=1
C=0
E=8
b=6
A=4
J=5
D=3
I=2
G=7
H=9

kicker · 26/11/2018 20:41

she's 12, year 8 and it just says solve the code.

OP posts:
MintEye · 26/11/2018 20:41

A = 4
B = 6
C = 0
D = 3
E = 8
F = 1
G = 7
H = 9
I - 2
J = 5

... i think.

Jeffacake · 26/11/2018 20:42

F and E are both 1. If E x E = BA then it depends what the conditions of the values are- if they have to be positive integers then BA must = 1 and therefore B and A are both also 1. However if they can take any value then B could be 1/3 and A 3.

AnotherSofaDay · 26/11/2018 20:42

F x E = E and C x E = C tells us that F=1 and c=0

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 26/11/2018 20:44

Well done AnotherSofaDay and MintEye, i was half way through my list!

Cadsuane · 26/11/2018 20:44

So E x E =Ba and B x E =AE so if E is 8 then B is 6 and A is 4.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 26/11/2018 20:46

Good going! Envy 《- actual jealousy.

AnotherSofaDay · 26/11/2018 20:46

E x E gives a 2 digit answer without 0 and without 1, and without having E in the answer so E has to be 7,8 or 9.
Then as J xE = AC ends in 0 the only option for E is 8 and J is 5 to give A = 4.
Then E x E = BA so B is 6.
Then A x E = DI so D is 3 and I is 2 and the rest follows more easily.

The main point is the letters represent digits 0-9

Jeffacake · 26/11/2018 20:47

They all have to be 1.

I’ve worked it all through and it’s a really silly question.

Jeffacake · 26/11/2018 20:49

Ive worked it on AB meaning AxB. Of course if you are interpreting AB as a two digit number with A as one digit and B as the other then the whole problem changes.

AnotherSofaDay · 26/11/2018 20:49

Or they could all be 0 😃
