Dog friendly but luxury in Scotland?

Posting here for traffic.

I recently went to Scotland for work. I have been before (Edinburgh for The Fringe and Loch Lomond for work) but this time I just loved it and I said to DH we should go up for a short break. But I get anxious about being away and so want to find the right place!

For reference pre DD, DH and I would go self catering overlooking the coast in Cornwall each year. Just lots of walks, castle type days out, the odd restaurant and the beach. I would love to find the right place in Scotland!

Rural/beach/waterside - views are a must
5 star accommodation (clean, modern interior)
Ideally dog friendly as our retriever hates to be away from me but I'm also conscious we're so far south the drive up would be pretty awful for him. If we didn't have him we could fly.

Thinking about booking something next year... thanks in advance for any ideas!

Yes, I found it on the Scotland tourist site, I just typed in dog friendly hotels but I know that area and its beautiful, there's an airport in Inverness.

Auchrannie resort on Arran is my go to for short dog friendly breaks. Loads to do on site and easy access for walks.

Givemestrengthorgin · 26/11/2018 20:34

Aviemore is a super destination and the lodges at Coylumbridge are lovely and some are dog friendly.

puppymouse · 26/11/2018 20:41

@catgames Auchrannie looks fab! Is there much nearby where dogs can be let off? Ours gets anxious on a lead as he is used to free ranging at my stables and out hacking.

puppymouse · 26/11/2018 20:47

@Givemestrengthorgin just googled - incredible location...but it looks like they're quite prescriptive about where dogs can go. Ours would just want to be by my side so any hotel with a firm policy might be tricky.

ZiggyStardusters · 26/11/2018 20:58

Trigony House hotel near Dumfries. www.trigonyhotel.co.uk/ . Charming & relaxed. Dogs very welcome!

FairfaxAikman · 26/11/2018 21:00

Killin is a great place for dogs and there's a few nice hotels in the area.

Figureof80 · 26/11/2018 21:02

Stonefield castle :

Friends stayed recently with their large energetic pooch and said it was very dog friendly. Lots to do in the area.

DrWhy · 26/11/2018 21:02

Banchory Lodge meets my in laws demanding standards, it’s on the river and is maybe 20-30 mins pretty drive to the coast.

onlyonmumnet · 26/11/2018 21:02

I think you can take a dog to the old course hotel in St. Andrews

puppymouse · 26/11/2018 21:07

Lots of dog friendly self catering places in Skye . Harris a bit more remote with fewer amenities but even more beautiful

puppymouse · 26/11/2018 21:28

Aaargh @nooddsocksforme that looks amazing

Sunflower40 · 26/11/2018 21:31

I will second Auchrannie! Arran is amazing, so many good restaurants & walks you're spoiled for choice. Lots of dog friendly places there.

nooddsocksforme · 26/11/2018 21:32

Haha @puppymouse might book the Harris one myself . Been to Stein in Skye and it’s lovely ,but Skye seems cosmopolitan compared to Harris .

puppymouse · 26/11/2018 21:34

Thinking for my 40th now. But not sure I'd persuade DH to spend £1400 on a week in the UK 😭😭😭

nooddsocksforme · 26/11/2018 21:49

If you got good weather it would be a magical holiday and well worth the money cos the beaches are to die for.however if it rained - well you could still sit in the cottage and have amazing views , drink lots of wine, go to see the callanish standing stones , do a boat trip and see dolphins,go and see the Iron Age villages . You could take a ferry to the uists or drive to bernera . Actually ...

puppymouse · 26/11/2018 21:54

Do you want to come with me instead of DH? 😂😂 that all sounds perfect 🥰
