Foggy car windows

Now that the weather has turned cold, I am battling with foggy windows in the morning.

I can get my windscreen and 2 front windows clear realtively easily, altough it still requires some faffing. The rear windows fog up like nobody's business.

So... how do you clear and maintain none foggy windows?

Do you not have a heated rear window?

You can get eggs things from Lakeland and other types of mini dehumidifiers that help draw the moisture out of the car.

Buy a small bag of cheap cat litter- put some in an old sock and leave it under the front passenger seat.

I read about this somewhere (probably MN) and it’s worked a treat for the last 3/4 years.

fruityb · 22/11/2018 10:58

What’s above - it’s getting in and out with wet shoes and stuff and the car getting wet inside that makes it so hard to sort out. I hate it every year! Cat litter has helped in my car but need to remember to keep the toddler away! If you ever can leave the windows open a crack to let it air out a bit.

I have a car with a heated windscreen now and it’s the dogs bollocks!

cjt110 · 22/11/2018 11:13

Heated rear windscreen yes - I mean the front and back passenger windows.

It's a modern car, so not old.

It's really bloody annoying.

NotCitrus · 22/11/2018 11:22

Do you need to see out the back passenger windows? I'd just leave them.

FingerLickingGod · 22/11/2018 11:26

Do you not look out of them when reversing?

cjt110 · 22/11/2018 11:27

When turning out of a side road, or reversing.... Yes

For the front window I turn the blowers onto the ones that point on the windscreen and put it so it’s blasting fast and on as hot as it goes and then put the air con on at the same time and they clear really quickly. Someone taught me that trick and I pass it on as it actually works!

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 22/11/2018 11:34

Do you have aircon?

JuniperBeer · 22/11/2018 11:36

Put air con on for 5 mins. It dries out the air.

cjt110 · 22/11/2018 11:37

I do have air con. Worth a shot?

OP posts:
SmallDalek · 22/11/2018 11:39

I feel your pain. Mine has added ability in that the windscreen freezes on the inside when it gets icy out. Am going to try cat litter for foggiest though. Haven’t heard of that

cjt110 · 22/11/2018 11:46

I just can't stand not being able to see clearly through the windows.

OP posts:
Oddsocksandmeatballs · 22/11/2018 12:01

I always run the aircon even if I want warm air round the car, I find it keeps the condensation problems to a minimum. Keep your windows closed if you are using the aircon.

CleanHonestGoals · 22/11/2018 12:02

Stupid question but as I'm battling with this at the moment I'll ask it. Air con on hot or cold? I have heated front and rear Windows and a max button which focuses all the hot air on them. But it just seems to clear those and fog the car up. It was gone midnight when I left work last night and the side Windows were frozen solid even after scraping them a bit to see I couldn't get them to open to de-mist the inside of the car. I've not been driving long and it's my first winter.

cjt110 · 22/11/2018 12:03

So it's OK to use air con on hot/warm to clear the windows? I always thought air con was to cool?

OP posts:
Oddsocksandmeatballs · 22/11/2018 12:04

Aircon on hot/warm, windows closed, heated screens on, never bother with the max button.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 22/11/2018 12:04

No, aircon runs on the hot setting too.

cjt110 · 22/11/2018 12:05

Cheers Odd

This might be useful.

ShatnersBassoon · 22/11/2018 12:11

Yes to aircon on! It dries the air so keep it on. Hot blast to clear the condensation, then steady warm air to stop it misting up during your journey.

thenightsky · 22/11/2018 12:26

I can't understand why you get foggy windows on a car that has aircon (unless I misread your previous post) Confused Just put the blowers upwards, turn the heat up, whack the aircon on. Clear in seconds.

fruityb · 22/11/2018 12:27

Never realised air con would do this!!

NotCitrus · 22/11/2018 12:41

@fingerlickinggod I don't actually - I learnt to drive like a van driver, as I can't turn my head much, so I use rear view and side mirrors and look out the driver/passenger windows, which is as far round as I can get. I know other people look over their shoulders but assumed it was the back windscrwen they were looking through!

Poppyfr33 · 22/11/2018 12:48

Could open the windows to see out
