And is it Fish and Chips or a Fish Supper where you live? Genuinely interested (and hungry)

Fish and chips from the fish and chip shop.
(southeast)

allupsidedown · 21/11/2018 19:30

My kids call it a fisher because they always have fish and chips. I call it a chipper and usually have a haddock supper, dh has a jumbo sausage supper.

AnotherPidgey · 21/11/2018 19:30

Chippy in all the parts of the country I've lived in. I grew up with chip butties, and now have to ask for chip cobs.

cheeeseplease · 21/11/2018 19:32

Fish and chips from the chipper.. from Dublin. Definitely chipper from most in Ireland I'd say!

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 21/11/2018 19:33

I would say fish and chips from the chippy. But we usually just say we are having a chippy tea . (Northwest)

Magicstar1 · 21/11/2018 19:33

Yes chipper here in Dublin. I only ever hear chippy from the Scouse side of the family

AamdC · 21/11/2018 19:33

It would be a Chippy tea !not supper! With pea wet and scraps!!

fruityb · 21/11/2018 19:46

Peas wet! My mate at uni said that - he was from Cumbria.

dementedpixie · 21/11/2018 19:47

Don't know what pea wet or scraps are

KitKatCHA · 21/11/2018 19:49

Fish and chips from the fish shop! When you order here a portion of fish and chips is referred to as, 'once', so if you want two portions plus batter you ask for, 'twice with batter'

PurpleDaisies · 21/11/2018 19:50

Fish and chips from the chippy.

charis · 21/11/2018 19:50

Thank you so much for your contributions! I've moved to Scotland, West coast, pretty far North. Just having a moment with DP thinking I'm right 😅

dementedpixie · 21/11/2018 19:52

Ask for a single sausage! (You get 2 battered sausages with no chips)

Valasca · 21/11/2018 19:53

I thought this was a baby name thread.
Chip. Chipper. Chipmeister. The ChipMaaaaan. Grin

QuitMoaning · 21/11/2018 19:54

Fish and chips from the chippy or the Fish shop.
South East here.

Valasca · 21/11/2018 19:55

In my defence, I’ve been watching reruns of the Office (US version) and was hearing Andy saying it.

SilentBob · 21/11/2018 20:02

Chippy. Fish and chips.

I don't know anyone who says fish supper although I would know what they meant.

Pie dinner and sausage dinner is a thing where I live now, though (different northern town to where I was born and bred) and I have to admit I didn't not know what they were when I got here (about 18months ago!)

Also "going to the Chinese" in my hometown meant getting a takeaway Chinese meal to me- with perhaps some chips if someone felt the need. "Going to the Chinese" here now can mean "getting a Chinese takeaway meal" "getting a Chinese takeaway meal with perhaps some chips" or "getting fish and chips or a pie dinner (see above)"- what I would have called going to the Chippy.

DevonshireCreamTea · 21/11/2018 20:02

Chippy tea if not fish. Fish n chips or fish supper !

Rockbird · 21/11/2018 20:08

Chipper when home in Ireland but they don't understand that here in the SE so it's chip shop.

charis · 21/11/2018 20:09

Thank you again MNers

I would normally associate 'chipper' as a feeling as in, feeling chipper, bright and breezy, full of life, perky, upbeat.

Stringofpearls · 21/11/2018 20:10

Fish 'n' chips from the chippy. Chipper is the machine that chops the potatoes into chips, at least it was where I worked when I was 14!

PumpkinKitty82 · 21/11/2018 20:11

Chippy here in Herts but also London where I’m originally from

RB68 · 21/11/2018 20:11

I thought you were asking for a cheerful carpenter....
