...with a fresh stream for water, some fat red chickens and a huge supply of logs for the solid fuel stove.

Please add details to make it a beautiful day dream.

Sheep and a spinning wheel.

MrsPear · 21/11/2018 18:49

I do this every summer op / it’s very physical. Also can be a bit shit if the electric goes out esp as water comes in via an electric pump. But yes it is very relaxing vs a hot tube.

Vitalogy · 21/11/2018 18:53

Also can be a bit shit if the electric goes out esp as water comes in via an electric pump. Oh no, nothing like that will be occurring. This is a daydream after all.

Flowersonthewall · 21/11/2018 18:55

@MrsPear where do you go? This sounds idyllic

DoveSecret · 21/11/2018 19:28

Im living your dream.

On a side of a mountain, with a stream, 250+ yr old house, wood burner, sheep but no chickens as we have enough foxes around. Shitloads if gorgeous walks and castles and the sea.

Urbanbeetler · 21/11/2018 19:29

Thank you for indulging me. It is a daydream and in reality I do like London- well, bits about London. But I spent my childhood in a beautiful rural area and I escape there in my head when it all gets too much.

I have heard such good things about the landscape in NI and also Cumbria. I love the North Pennines and after a few days there, that’s where my day dreams are focused for now!

I sort of want it to be a bit physical. I’m not religious but I feel grounded when I do stuff with flora and fauna and ice cold wild water.

I used to live on the side of a hill with a log burner, a spring fed water tank and no mains electric. The chickens got eaten by a fox.

It was lovely but an ENORMOUS amount of work.

AlecOrAlonzo · 21/11/2018 19:37

Actually our old house is empty so you could probably go and live there if you want.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 21/11/2018 19:41

Two of you have said you live in, basically, paradise but neither of you have said where in the world you found it

MrsPear · 21/11/2018 19:49

I go to my inlaws in North Albania. flowersonthewall As I said it is beautiful but work. We make everything from scratch. Off the top of my head we buy cleaning stuff, toiletries, sugar, tea and coffee. Everything else is home done. Eg Milk comes from the neighbours cow and boiled. Cheese, yogurt and butter made from that. The vegetable garden is huge. Even the chickens have to killed and plucked if you fancy a roast! My husband picks up a lamb from another neighbour on occasion. He is in charge of that butchery. We eat a lot of beans - that’s an afternoon job whilst hot. You just sit and de pod and leave out spread on a sheet to dry. Not all work - we have a plunge pool too.

The rest of the year we live in a crowded area of London with a high speed train line next to us. So different.

Urbanbeetler · 21/11/2018 19:51

That sounds amazing, MrsPear

holidaylady · 21/11/2018 20:19

Op maybe try cold water swimming. (Aka 'swimming' lol)
There's quite a few lidos and ponds in London that might give you some peace

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 21/11/2018 20:25

Lots of blankets

Cats

Space to have craft/drawing/sewing stuff out without having to pack it away.

Log burner

Well stocked wine cellarGrin

SgtFredColon · 21/11/2018 20:31

Hmmm. I like the sound of it but not the work. Can I get a biweekly delivery from Asda?

YeOldeTrout · 21/11/2018 21:18

Sounds like Hell to me, OP. However, as this is your perfect fantasy and we are each appointed fairy godmothers:

I give you a self-cleaning zero-maintenance indoor flush toilet.
Oh, and terrific insulation, amazing broadband, and good quality medical care easily accessible.

Urbanbeetler · 21/11/2018 21:24

YeOldTrout that was particularly kind and thoughtful given it’s not your personal day dream at all. I will happily take the toilet, the insulation and the medical care. Thank goodness someone is viewing this with a sensible head on Grin

That’s a very sweet cottage, Peridot.

I think I will grant you a hammock between a couple of old oak trees for warm days and a slow moving but crystal clear river at the bottom of the garden with a little rowing boat. There are a few otters in there and a kingfisher or two

Afonavon · 21/11/2018 21:29

I had a dream of living by the side of a secret lake up high in the mountains.

My other daydream is living inside a mountain in a hobbit hole.

I’d keep chickens for eggs, grow veg, make chutneys and pickles. I’d have an orchard and barter for milk.

I’d swim in the lake morning and evening and hear nothing but nature.

I’d keep merino sheep and alpacas and spin their wool for yarn. I’d knit and crochet to my heart’s content.

I’d holiday once a year in a busy city, use wifi, visit restaurants and cinemas just to catch up with the world. Also to make sure that I didn’t take the good life for granted.

RIPWalter · 21/11/2018 21:30

This was the view from our mountainside cottage the evening we moved in.....

HTH!!! Smile

Candles. Many many candles.

I’ll give you some decking and a beautiful fire pit with pizza oven for just when you fancy it.
