Saw this folly on Grand Designs this season. It looks amazing! I wonder why it's up for sale already?

It’s beautiful but £850k for two bedrooms??!

DailyMailWankers · 20/11/2018 11:56

I just assumed they were standard prices down south Grin

its tiny. so I assume the family out grew it very quickly

Twatforahat · 20/11/2018 11:58

Not surprising given its glaring lack of space. Found this annoying when I watched it.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 20/11/2018 11:58

It is so unpractical for children

FitzChivalryFarseer · 20/11/2018 11:58

There’s a cot. I’d hazard a guess the family are out growing a hugely impractical two bed house. It is very pretty, but tiny bedrooms and a nightmare layout and style for a toddler or two. It’s also crazy money for barely 1000 sq. ft. of house, even if it has got large grounds and is done beautifully.

Carpetglasssofa · 20/11/2018 12:02

They don't call it a Folly for nothing...

DuchessofManchester · 20/11/2018 12:08

Well I've won my bet with DH! Said it'd be on the market before the new year.

Bellabutterfly2016 · 20/11/2018 13:45

Would be fun as a holiday house but not practical for all the time

tsonlyme · 20/11/2018 13:48

It’s lovely but isn’t grand designs just a showcase for architects these days? Hardly surprising they sell once it’s been on the telly, best advert ever.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 20/11/2018 13:52

Because most couples that go on Grand Designs divorce within a year of the programme being aired. FACT. (Or at least I can't see how any marriage can survive!!)

Headstand · 20/11/2018 14:42

I mean, it's beautiful but so small!! Not surprised they have out grown it so quickly. Completely impractical as a family home. Shame.

DailyMailWankers · 20/11/2018 14:48

But after all the work and time and stress that went into it? It would break my heart to leave our house and that's just after living through an extension.

Some people are serial self builders. I know a family who are building their fourth house. They love it. They love the excitement of it all and the satisfaction of seeing it finished. Then they itch to start again.

ajandjjmum · 20/11/2018 15:02

It was always too small! We heard the couple speak at the Grand Designs show, and they had originally hoped to create more space, but planning made them keep within the original building.

Interesting build though.

Headstand · 20/11/2018 15:23

It's tricky though, if you look at some of the other Follies that have been on GD (one in Wales springs to mind) that were permitted extensions, they just look ridiculous and ruin the architecture of the original. I don't blame the local planning authority for insisting they keep within the original building.

PlayingForKittens · 20/11/2018 16:02

They had outgrown it before they had even finished it. Beautiful but never a practical home.

DeezMutts · 20/11/2018 16:18

The bathroom looks like it’s in my dads old brick outhouse.

Magenta46 · 20/11/2018 16:21

Because people who are forever doing up their homes are never satisfied and seek a new challenge. My bro is one of these people.

DeathyMcDeathStarFace · 20/11/2018 17:32

I think it's a lovely house, but tiny. I remember watching the program and thinking if the family grows by too many then they'd be wanting more space. Maybe that's what is happening.

Or having to move area for work. I wouldn't be pleased if I'd put so much money, time and energy into a house and been transferred at work!

Heuschrecke · 20/11/2018 18:02

It's lovely - but massively impractical and small - the sort of place you'd like as a weekend 'cottage' .... assuming you have £850K to throw away on a weekend cottage!

I missed the programme, so didn't see what their plans were. But surely many couples who get Grand Designs in must know that there will be an imminent pregnancy Grin

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 20/11/2018 18:11

It's gorgeous, but definitely only as a holiday home. It would probably do well on airbnb.

FitzChivalryFarseer · 20/11/2018 18:12

It would break my heart to leave our house and that's just after living through an extension.

Whereas doing ours has made me hate our house. The layout is much more logical, and it is way bigger, but every time I see any imperfection, it reminds me of the arse of a builder who did it, the hell he put us through before walking off the job. I would love to move and do it again somewhere else with a more reputable builder.

ClashCityRocker · 20/11/2018 18:20

If I'm remembering correctly, she had a toddler and was pregnant again during the build.

(why is the wife ALWAYS pregnant on grand designs?!)

It's a beautiful property, but wholly impractical for a family home, I would have thought, particularly longer term.

I did raise my eyebrows when they said it would only be two bedrooms. And the kids room does look rather small for sharing...

HollyBollyBooBoo · 20/11/2018 18:29

Because it's teeny tiny and too spread out. Can't quite believe they thought it would work!
