A&E or bed?

Basically, I'm in no pain, but I literally can't stay awake for the past week. I'm sleeping probably 18 out of 24 hours. I have no energy whatsoever. What would you do? Would A&E just tell me to go home? Any point in me trying to get there?

I didn't get speaking to a doctor, just the receptionist

Have you tried ringing 111?

SmallDalek · 19/11/2018 16:22

Sounds like a chest infection if it hurts on breathing in. infections can totally wipe you out. If the pain or breathing difficulties get any worse at all get help . If it stays the same make sure your gp knows just how awful you’re feeling and tell them you need to be seen the same day. You can’t mess with breathing things.

Well, you didn't have pain earlier, and now you do. Plus some difficulty breathing.

You need to get checked out. Ring 111 .Now.
They will be able to say if you need seeing today, or can wait for GP tomorrow. - it doesn't now sound to me that waiting would be a good idea. You definitely need advice, so make that call.

Conseulabananahammock · 19/11/2018 16:28

Personally if i was in and out of consciousness id ring a&e if it was unusual. If its just fatigue id wait for a same day gp appointment

Conseulabananahammock · 19/11/2018 16:28

Ring 111 even not a&e. Sleep deprivation is making me stupid

JuniperBeer · 19/11/2018 16:33

So ring back at 8 in the morning to get a same day appointment. Make sure it is 8 thought and not 8.05.

You haven’t had an accident and you’re not an emergency.
Have you had any water? Anything to eat? Not eating and drinking will contribute to feeling knackered as well. Hope you feel better soon. And get an appt for tomorrow morning!

LimitIsUp · 19/11/2018 16:34

This is a bit drip feedy in terms of symptoms.

When my dh was so tired that he went to bed in the middle of the day it turned out to be pneumonia

MommaCinders · 19/11/2018 16:35

Not to sound like an echo but 111 will usually get you an appointment at urgent care, or an out of hours doctor will call you and have you referred to a clinic or an on call doctor. I would’ve said that at 18hours sleep a day for a full week.

nakedscientist · 19/11/2018 16:52

Not an A&E job - neither accident not emergency.

Sorry but you do not know this and you could be putting someone in danger by these comments.

OP Call 111 and describe your symptoms. For example, difficulty breathing and chest pain could mean you are having a heart attack or a pulmonary embolism or these symptoms could mean you have pneumonia or bronchitis either bacterial or viral or other respiratory distress or other conditions.

Difficulty breathing IS a medical emergency. Talk to an expert, please. 111 can give you either an out of hours doc appointment or an A and E referral.

Toocold · 19/11/2018 16:58

I think this is worthy of a and e, any breathing difficulty is. I hope you feel better soon.

Tellthemnothing · 19/11/2018 17:09

I don't have difficulty breathing, I probably said that wrong, it's just sore.

If the person who is writing this is very ill, she could be too confused to communicate. This happened with my DM. Thank God somebody realised this - she had pneumonia and sepsis. OP just ring 111.

Sirzy · 19/11/2018 17:15

When I had pneumonia the only symptoms I had where tiredness and soreness when breathing (I also had pleurisy)

I just avoided being admitted to hospital by the time I got help.

From your layer posts I would at least phone 111 for advice tonight

LimitIsUp · 19/11/2018 17:16

Same as my dh Sirzy

Sirzy · 19/11/2018 17:17

The only reason I went to the walk in centre that day was to shut people up pestering me to get help - that one backfired!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 19/11/2018 17:22

I am struggling to breathe and have a pain at the front of me. But it's not there all the time, just when I breathe in.

I don't have difficulty breathing, I probably said that wrong, it's just sore.

Have you phoned 111 yet?

Sexnotgender · 19/11/2018 17:22

Ok that’s a MASSIVE drip feed.

Phone 111 and ask for advice.

greathat · 19/11/2018 17:24

Yes phone 111

TeaForTiger · 19/11/2018 17:24

I hate these threads. No one should be telling the OP she isn't an emergency, how on earth do you know!

Call 111 OP, they will assess you and tell you which service you need.

wildewillow · 19/11/2018 17:25

Have you had an accident? Is it an emergency?

If not to both questions speak to your gp or even give 111 a call.

HoleyCoMoley · 19/11/2018 17:26

No one knows if this is an emergency, not even the OP so why don't you call 111 and tell them about your pain and tiredness and let them help you.

Lwmommy · 19/11/2018 17:27

Call 111 right now. They will tell you what to do.

FaithInfinity · 19/11/2018 17:48

Last time I had a chest infection it was really painful. Painkillers didn’t help. I was chesty and I honestly started thinking I’ll just stop breathing, it hurts too much to breathe. I ended up calling 111 in the night because I genuinely didn’t think I’d cope til my GP practice opened. Saw a nurse practitioner in OOH who gave me antibiotics. Within hours of starting them my symptoms improved. So I would advise calling 111 for help.

Hezz · 19/11/2018 17:49

Phone 111 now
