Veruccas. Dd has about 5. Is this usual!!

Momasita · 17/11/2018 21:26

Never had one as child... Dd has got to 12... Got one, we treated it with bazuka the strong one.

It seemed to go and that was that.

Then a few weeks ago dd said she thought she had athlete's foot and there... Were large protruding wart like veruccas.

She now has 5 maybe 6 on her feet. Should a doctor take a look? Is this normal.does anyone have tips on what else we should do?

Take a photo and post it. We can't advise properly without seeing them.

Miltonkeynesmummy · 17/11/2018 21:33

Buy some stubby small emery boards just to be used on that part and gently file away over the lesion every evening and then put tape over it. Do this daily but do not stress about it. It is a virus and often occurs when the immune system dips eg growth spurts. If that doesn't work....high strength vitamin e on a plaster may work.

Cherulewis · 17/11/2018 21:35

Is there somewhere she is picking it up from? Some children are just very susceptible.

Ds1 and Ds2 both swim and do karate every week. Only Ds2 gets verrucas.

If you are looking at going to the doctors to get rid of them most of them want you to have tried over the counter treatments before they intervene.

It was a nightly routine for me and Ds2, remove bazooka white disc, file foot, pick at verruca to get to root, reapply bazooka.

Because he is very prone, we do twice weekly checks on his feet with me wearing magnifying glasses because I know how to spot the very early stages.

I had about 4/5 years back and I went to the doc to get two zapped and it was like then my body learnt to fight them and they all disappeared and touch wood have never came back! Go to the docs, if anything u don't have to fork out for treatments

DS had loads in his early teens, he then seemed to grow out of them.

Momasita · 17/11/2018 21:39

Those are just some. It's the sheer volume that has taken me back! I have no prior experience of them.

JudasPrudy · 17/11/2018 21:39

Does she go swimming a lot? Maybe that's where she picked them up.

Thebookswereherfriends · 17/11/2018 21:39

My brother used to get them a lot, I never had one. I think it’s just susceptiblity. They can get very painful, so might be worth seeing a chiropodist.

Momasita · 17/11/2018 21:39

What are the the option what will the doc do?

countrybunny · 17/11/2018 21:40

I had loads and I used every over the counter treatment I could think of and nothing worked. Then I got pregnant and odly they all went! (Obviously not recommending that for your daughter)

The NHS won't treat them now though

Momasita · 17/11/2018 21:40

No she doesn't do weekly lessons now.

We went swimming on holiday but that had foot dip before entering. Even then she was only in that pool twice!

I was told to either use banana skin on them or cover them with duct tape as the tape starves the oxygen supply and kills them off. If she s ok in herself I’d try to home treat first

costacoffeecup · 17/11/2018 21:43

I had lots of them when I was younger and just grew out of them.

I would actually quite like to have one now, I could spend hours picking at it and then the satisfaction when it leaves a big crater...

Gingerivy · 17/11/2018 21:46

My son has a couple on one foot. He is autistic and terrified of any medicated stuff to put on it to make them go away, and refuses tape on it, so after a discussion with the GP, we agreed to just leave them for now. GP said eventually they will go away on their own. One has already, so I'm hopeful the other couple will.

Beingginger · 17/11/2018 21:49

DD has about 40 at one point, her feet were a mess. She does gymnastics and karate which are obviously barefoot sports.
The gp refused to treat them and DD wouldn’t let me touch them as they were so painful. I just left them alone and they eventually went on their own. It took about 2 years though.

Miljah · 17/11/2018 21:51

momasita I recall, I think an episode of embarrassing bodies where a young person presented with loads of verrucas.

They were checked out and discovered to have an immune disorder. I don't want to cause alarm, but I don't think it would be a bad idea to be certain that this isn't an issue.

It most probably isn't, tho!

anniehm · 17/11/2018 21:54

This will sound weird but you need to cover with airtight tape, the body will then fight it its self, otherwise look for a chiropodist who can zap it with more powerful stuff (gp with just say but otc stuff)

Labradoodliedoodoo · 17/11/2018 21:57

Neat teatree oil twice a day.

TwistinMyMelon · 17/11/2018 22:00

It's a verruca. It's hardly the plague.

TwistinMyMelon · 17/11/2018 22:01

Please don't bother your doctor with this. Either use otc treatments (which probably won't work) or just leave alone.

AnnaMagnani · 17/11/2018 22:02

The person on Embarrassing Bodies had thousands of veruccas though. Not 5.

EekThreek · 17/11/2018 22:03

Word of caution, be careful with prodding/filing/aggravating them. DD's got infected and she ended up with an abscess the size of a golf ball on the ball of her foot. That was after pumicing and treating with salycylic acid on GP's advice. It had to be drained under GA and she was on crutches for 7 weeks while the skin healed.

It's rare, but obviously not impossible...

Momasita · 17/11/2018 22:04

40 Shock wow!!

I have always been vaguely aware of people trying to get rid of one!

Am I to belive then this virus is in her body and like herpes they may always re occur?

OP posts:
Momasita · 17/11/2018 22:06

Thanks eek.

I do have tee tree oil.. Maybe I will try that.

I was also thinking would putting her feet into apple cider vinegar help Grin.
